The beauty of an Android phone is that you can customize almost every aspect of your phone. If you have been wondering how to make your Samsung Galaxy phone’s Home screen look more appealing, we will help you achieve just that.

Tip: Want to customize your Android lock screen instead? We show you how.

1. Set a Custom Wallpaper

Samsung Galaxy phones offer a nice variety of wallpapers that can be set on the Lock or Home screen. But you can also set any custom image from your gallery as your phone’s wallpaper as shown in the following steps:

Select “Gallery” and choose the picture that you want to set as your wallpaper. Tap on “Done.”

You’ll be asked whether you want to use the same wallpaper for the Lock and Home screen or different wallpapers. Uncheck “Lock screen” if you want to apply the wallpaper only to the Home screen. Then, tap on the “Preview” button.

Use the pinch in and out gesture to zoom in and out of the wallpaper. Finally, tap on “Done.”

Pro Tip: You can set custom wallpaper on your Samsung Galaxy phone from the gallery as well. Open the desired photo in the Samsung Gallery app and tap on the three-dot icon. Select “Set as wallpaper.”

        2. Add Filter to Wallpaper

If you wish to use a custom photo as your phone’s wallpaper, you can customize it by adding a filter to it so that it matches the aesthetics of your Home screen.

Select your preferred wallpaper as we showed you previously.

Uncheck “Lock screen” and tap on “Preview.”

On the preview screen, tap on the “Filter” button and apply the desired filter from the list at the bottom.

Tap on “Done” to add the filter to your wallpaper.

            3. Match App Icons Color to Wallpaper

You can have the Samsung stock app icons like Phone, Messages, Notes, etc. use a color palette based on the colors in the Home screen wallpaper. That way your entire phone including Quick settings and other areas will have the same color palette.

Turn on the toggle next to “Apply palette to color icons” and finally hit the “Apply” button.

This is how our Samsung phone looks after applying a color palette to app icons:

                  4. Disable App Drawer

Instead of the App drawer, you can have all your installed apps show on your phone’s Home screen. For that, you will have to disable the App drawer or the Apps screen.

Select “Home screen only” and hit the “Apply” button.

                    5. Change the Number of App Rows on the Home Screen

Whether you want to change the size of app icons or have more apps showing on the Home screen, Samsung lets you do both.

Select the grid size (number of columns x number of rows) from the options at the bottom and hit “Done.”

                      6. Change the Number of App Icons in a Folder

Samsung also lets you customize the number of rows or columns in an app folder.

                      7. Show Google Discover on Home Screen

If you enjoy using Google Discover Feed on your phone, you can add it on your Samsung phone as well without using a third-party app.

Tap on “Add media page to Home screen.”

Enable it on the next screen and choose “Google Discover.”

Good to know: swipe to the leftmost page of your Samsung Home screen and you will see the Google Discover Feed.

                          8. Add More Apps in Dock

The dock is the area at the bottom of your Home screen. By default, Samsung allows you to add only four apps to the dock. But, you can add one more app or folder in the dock if you disable the App drawer icon.

Turn off the toggle next to “Show apps button on Home screen.”

Now, go to your Home screen and drag any app or folder to the dock.

                              9. Add More Home Screen Pages

Your Samsung phone will automatically create new pages to accommodate more apps. But you can also manually add more Home screen pages.

To do so, long press on any empty space on the home screen.

Scroll through the available pages until you see the empty page with the “+” button.

Tap on it to create a new page.

Then, press anywhere to add the page.

Tip: learn how to set a different wallpaper on each home screen page.

                                10. Delete a Home Screen Page

To remove any Home screen page, long press any empty space on the Home screen.

The available pages will show up. Tap on the “Delete” icon at the top of the page that you want to remove.

Note: deleting a page will only remove the app icons from the Home screen, they will not be deleted permanently.

                                11. Set a New Main Home Screen

If you have customized a certain Home screen page to your liking, you can set it as your main Home screen page instead of the default one.

To change the main Home screen page, long press anywhere on the Home screen. The available pages will show up.

Tap on the “Home” icon on the top of the page that you want to set as the main page.

                                12. Reorder Home Screen Pages

The home screen pages will show up in the order that they were created on your Samsung Galaxy phone. But, you can reorder them according to your preference.

For that, touch and hold an empty space on the home screen. Once the pages show up, hold and drag the home screen that you want to move to its new position.

                                13. Resize Widgets

It wouldn’t surprise you if we told you that you could add widgets to your home screen pages. It’s also possible to resize them.

Add the desired widget to the home screen.

Long press on the widget until you see a border around the widget.

                                14. Stack Widgets

If you like having widgets on the home screen but are bothered by the sheer amount of space that they take, Samsung One UI 5 has a solution for you in the form of widget stacks. As the name suggests, a widget stack can hold multiple widgets in the place of one widget.

To create a widget stack, first, add one widget to the Home screen. For that, long press on the Home screen and select “Widgets.”

Add the desired widget by pressing the “Add” button on the widget.

Long press on the widget on the Home screen and select “Create stack.”

Select another widget that you want to add to the stack and hit the “Add” button. Similarly, add more widgets.

After you have created a widget stack, you need to swipe right or left on the widget stack to switch between widgets.

Tip: Long press on the widget stack and select “Edit” stack to delete any widget from the stack.

                                    15. Switch App Icon Badges Style

Go to the “Home Up” module and tap on “Home screen.”

Scroll down and turn off the toggle next to the “Hide app icon label.”

Once you have made all the customizations to your Home screen, you can lock it so that any accidental touch doesn’t remove or reposition any app or widget.

Appswiper: Swipe Up To Kill Apps On The Home Screen

AppSwiper is a brand new jailbreak tweak that allows you to kill running apps with a simple swipe gesture. The gesture, which is performed on app icons situated on the Home screen, invokes a pop-up window displaying the amount of RAM that the application is currently using.

Along with the RAM readout, you’re greeted with two buttons — cancel, and kill. The cancel button takes you back to the Home screen without performing any actions, and the kill button stops the app from running.

AppSwiper is a great jailbreak tweak for those of you who like to micromanage running apps. Have a look at our video walkthrough inside for all of the details.

To make it easy to identify running apps on your Home screen, AppSwiper places a colored bar underneath all running apps on the Home screen. Only apps that have this colored bar are running, and hence; only these apps can be killed with a swipe gesture.

After installing AppSwiper, a new preference panel is added to the stock Settings app. In this panel you’ll find several settings that can be used to configure the way AppSwiper looks and feels.

The first option found in AppSwiper’s preferences is a toggle for the confirmation alert box. This is the box that pop’s up prompting you to kill the application in question after using the swipe up gesture. You can bypass this box and immediately kill the app by turning this option off. I don’t recommend this, because doing so alleviates the RAM readout that shows how much memory the app is using.

The next two settings found in the tweak’s preferences has to do with the looks of the colored bar that shows up underneath running apps. You can change this bar to a variety of different colors and also change its opacity settings.

Lastly, you’ll notice a toggle for “Swipe To Kill Apps”. This toggle is aimed solely at the apps ion the app switcher. This allows you to have Auxo like swipe gestures to kill running apps in the app switcher.

One of the things that I really appreciate about AppSwiper is the amount of documentation and handholding that the tweak provides. Not only in its description in Cydia insanely thorough, the developer includes a ReadMe file via pop up window that can be access by tapping the “More Info” button in the tweak’s preference panel. Generally speaking, if a developer is thorough in documentation, then it’s pretty good chance that they’re thorough in testing and development.

After testing out AppSwiper, I’m convinced that it’s a solid tweak that’s worth your time. That is, of course, if you’re looking for a way to micromanage your running applications. I think iOS does a pretty decent job of managing applications by itself without needing to go in an kill any running apps, but understandably, not everyone agree with these sentiments.

If you’d like to take AppSwiper for a spin, then you can venture over to Cydia’s BigBoss repo. once there, you’ll be able to download AppSwiper for a reasonable $0.99.

5 Easy Tips To Customize Browser Alert Popups

5 Easy Tips to Customize Browser Alert Popups

Javascript is the programming language that dictates the browser alert popup function.

Browser alert popups are in-browser notifications that convey messages to the user.

The best way to customize the alert popup is to alter the CSS code.

                                                    ⇒ Get Opera One

Can you imagine your mobile phone without notifications? Notifications help you navigate the different apps on your device by giving you bits and pieces of what’s going on in those apps, and you can decide what’s important enough to pay attention to.

There are three types of JavaScript popup boxes: the alert box, confirm box, and prompt box. This article will focus on the alert box.

The alert box’s main aim is to get the user’s information. The alert box usually requires the user’s OK or Dismiss input to proceed. Keep reading to learn more about browser popup alerts.

                                                    What is a browser alert?

A browser alert describes a notification sent by a website or web application. Users can receive browser alerts from websites they have subscribed to even when they’re not on the website or actively using their browser.

Before the development of mobile and computer applications, browsers were the only access to the internet, but even then, there were no notifications. The Google Chrome version 42 update marked the turning point in browser evolution.

Browser notifications perform the same functions as mobile app notifications. However, the notifications used in browsers are known as browser alert popups or JavaScript popup boxes.

                                                    What does JavaScript alert mean?

A JavaScript alert is a message window for users. It could vary from notifying the user of an error to other messages like a new update.

The JavaScript alerts function instructs the browser to send a modal dialog that carries a message and an OK button.

                                                    1. Use Selenium webdriver

                                                    function simpleAlert() { alert(“This is how simple alert looks!”); } function confirmAlert() { var textToDisplay; } else { } document.getElementById(“lambdaTestDemo”).innerHTML = textToDisplay; }

                                                    function promptAlert() { var textToDisplay; var pincode = prompt(“Please enter your area pincode:”, “560061”); textToDisplay = “Selenium Webdriver cancelled the prompt.”; } else { textToDisplay = “Product will be delivered to ” + pincode + “. Happy?”; } document.getElementById(“lambdaTestDemo”).innerHTML = textToDisplay; }

There are four main browser alerts categories: simple, prompt, confirm, and authentication. To handle these alerts, you can use the steps above.

                                                    2. Close browser alert in JavaScript

There are two methods for closing browser alerts in JavaScript and they are:

The close () method. The code for the close () function looks like this:

The setTimeout function for auto-close. The code for setTimeout function looks like this:

                                                    Expert tip:

                                                    3. Customize a JavaScript alert box with CSS

You can customize a JavaScript alert box with CSS. Using the CSS top and left properties to customize the position of the alert box.

This is what an alert box code would look like:

                                                    This is an alert box.

W3 Schools has a very nice tutorial on how to create JavaScript alerts with CSS and that might help you a lot.

                                                    4. How to set browser alerts

JavaScript uses the alert () method to display alert boxes. The alert box pops up with a specific message and an OK button, which is used to ensure that the user gets the message. For instance, let us look at the code below for a simple JavaScript alert:

                                                    Alert() Method in JavaScript h1 { color: Blue; } h2 { font-family: Impact; } body { text-align: center; } To display the alert message, Show Alert Message function myalert() { alert(“This is the Alert Message!”); }

This code will give the following output:

                                                    5. Enable the Edge browser JavaScript alert

Browser alerts have revolutionized the browser experience by allowing users to keep track of their activities as they would with mobile applications.

You can receive prompts, confirm an action, or just be reminded of certain activities on a website even when you’re not actively on the site or using your browser.

I hope this article’s information has made navigating your browser alert popup easier.

Windows look and feel have evolved. Windows 11, on the contrary, mixes the look and feel of the older versions of Windows with a modern touch and offers more features than Windows 10. In this post, I touch upon how you can customize Windows backgrounds, colors, lock screen, and themes.

                                                    Customize Windows 11/10

                                                    Lock Screen

                                                    App Notifications on Lock Screen

                                                    Customize a Windows Theme

                                                    Start Menu Apps and Folders

                                                    Installing Fonts

Make sure to go through them to find out which features you like the most.

1] Putting up your favorite desktop wallpaper or background

It is the first thing you will change when you log in to your PC. We all love to have our favorite wallpapers, and Windows 11/10 offers you many features. So here how you can change it

Select Background. Here you get to see a preview of how it will look like with the current wallpaper or the one you set up with.

You have three options here using the drop-down.

Picture: Select an image you want to use. You can then arrange right from being fit on the screen to span it across in the form of tiles.

Solid Colour: You can choose one from the color picker if you like it, plain and simple.

Slideshow: This option lets you select more than one picture of your choice and then keep changing it every few seconds.

Now, if you are using multiple monitors, you can extend it or have separate wallpapers. Read more about it here.

2] Choosing the color accent of your liking

If you notice closely, there is a bit of color throughout the Windows experience. The default is set to blue. If you want to change it, use the Colors section. Here you can choose from the available standard colors or use the color picker. The color will be used everywhere, including Start, Taskbar, Action Center, and so on.

What I like is the option to change accent color based on background wallpaper. So every time the wallpaper changes, I get a new accent color, and it keeps the look fresh.

If you choose the automatic accent color option, you can skip showing accent color for Start, Taskbar, action center, and title bars. Also, I would suggest keeping the transparency effects turned on. Windows 11/10 comes with Fluent Design, and they look fantastic. Lastly, you can choose between Dark and Light themes for your apps.

                                                    3] Customize the Lock screen

Like Desktop Backgrounds, you can customize the Lock Screen to display a Picture or Slideshow or Windows Spotlight.

For those who aren’t aware, Windows Spotlight is an option for the lock screen background that displays different background images and occasionally offers suggestions on the lock screen.  I would suggest you read about Windows Spotlight, also try this Windows Spotlight tool which saves them as wallpaper on your PC – but let’s talk about the Cortana integration.

You can also configure the Lock Screen Status from Calendar and use the same wallpaper as the Lock Screen on the Login screen.

                                                    Pro Tip:

If you use Slideshow on LockScreen, you can choose it to display pictures of your Camera roll folders from OneDrive. Make sure you have all images available on your PC

4] App Notifications on Lock Screen (Windows 10 Only)

While this is not new, but I highly recommend you to use it daily. Like how you get notifications and previews from apps on your phone, you can choose apps to display similar notifications on the lock screen to avoid missing what is essential.

Here you can choose up to seven apps to display notifications along with your calendar. So if you working on two different machines, just looking at this machine will give you a clear idea that you are not missing anything important.

You can download themes directly from the Microsoft Store now. Instead of going to a website and downloading them, it’s much safer and makes sure they stay updated. The link to download the themes is available right in the Themes sections of Personalization.

Once you are in the Themes section, you can also configure Color, Sound, Mouse Corusor, and Background from here. It is useful if you want to customize the existing Theme further.

You cannot. Windows strictly prohibit any personalization change unless you have activated Windows.
