Many users reported slow internet speed as the leading cause of this issue, but we covered that in a separate guide, so be sure to check it out.

There are several causes of this problem, and in today’s article, we’ll show you how to fix this issue for good.

Why is my browser download speed so slow?

There could be multiple reasons why your browser’s download speed is slow:

How do I fix a slow download speed on my browser?

Before you go to the solutions we list in this article, you may want to do the following:

Check download speeds on other devices – If you check the download speed recorded on other devices against your current device, you can tell if the problem is with your device or the ISP.

Restart your computer – This workaround is useful in ending some problematic processes that may be ruining your download speed.

Change your browser – This means you do not need to troubleshoot this problem on the current browsers. Instead, we recommend a change to Opera One, as it is very reliable and will help you avoid many browser-related issues.

1. Use netsh command

Users reported that using one of these two commands fixed the problem, so try them both.

2. Disable your antivirus

This may be a helpful solution if your browser triggers the download speed issue. However, it would be best to remember that the disabling process might differ for your specific antivirus program.

3. End some processes 4. Close other applications and tabs

If you have tried all the possible solutions to resolve the slow download speed on your browser and nothing has worked, contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can help.

The slow download speed may be due to issues with your ISP’s network or equipment rather than your computer or browser. The ISP can diagnose and fix any issues on their end, such as network congestion or a problem with the connection to your home, which may affect your download speed.

They may also be able to offer you a faster plan if your current plan is not sufficient for your needs.

Additionally, they can check if any planned maintenance or upgrades that may be causing temporary slowdowns. Finally, contacting your ISP is a good step if you’ve ruled out other potential causes for slow download speed.

How do I increase my browser download speed further?

Use a fast internet connection: Make sure you have a high-speed internet connection. An immediate connection will allow you to download files quickly.

Disable extensions: Some browser extensions can slow down your download speed. Try disabling them temporarily to see if this helps.

Use a download manager: A download manager can increase your download speed by using multiple connections to download a single file.

Clear cache and cookies: Clearing your browser’s cache and cookies can free up disk space and improve your download speed.

Disable background activities: Close any running background applications or tabs, as they can consume bandwidth and slow down your download speed.

Change your server location: It can take longer to download if you download a file from a remote server. Try changing the server location to one that is closer to you.

These universal solutions will work if the browser download speed is slow on Firefox or any other browser.

Sometimes, your browser can lag for other reasons, and we covered this in detail in our Chrome is slow guide, so be sure to check it out.

A slow Wi-Fi connection is not an uncommon problem on laptops, and thousands of users suffer from it every day, even when the issue can be fixed in no time.

But before we head to the solutions, it’s imperative that you find out whether the problem appears across devices or whether the Wi-Fi is slow on a laptop but fast on mobile.

Why WiFi is slow on my laptop?

Here are some of the reasons why the Wi-Fi is slow on laptops but fast on other devices:

Any of these, or a bunch of other issues, may be responsible for slow Wi-Fi on HP and other laptops.

How can I make my laptop WiFi faster?

If you have slow Internet on a new laptop, make these quick and simple changes to increase the Internet speed:

Move the laptop closer to the Wi-Fi router.

If there are other wireless devices in the vicinity, remove them since their signal may be the reason behind the slow Wi-Fi speed on laptop.

If your Wi-Fi has dual bands, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, connect to the latter.

In case you are willing to let go of the wireless connection, switching to Ethernet should considerably increase the Internet speed due to reduced signal losses.

How do I fix slow WiFi on my computer?

Before we head to the slightly complex solutions, here are a few quick things you can do if Wi-Fi is only slow on PC:

Turn off the router, wait for a minute, and then turn it back on. Now verify if the Internet speed has increased.

Reduce the distance between the router and the laptop. It’s best to keep the laptop within a 3-5 m range of the router.

Restart the computer. In case there are several background processes consuming a major share of the bandwidth, this should work as a temporary solution.

Disable any VPN you have set up. VPNs reroute the connection and, in the process, reduce the Wi-Fi speed.

Disconnect other devices connected to the same router and see if there’s an improvement. In case there isn’t any, the problem likely lies with the driver or configured network settings.

Switch to a High Performance power plan in case you are currently on Balanced or Power Saver.

Reset the router. There is usually a button for it on the router itself, which, when held for a few seconds, automatically resets the router. Check the router manual for the exact steps.

If none of these work or don’t apply in your case, here are the more effective solutions to fix slow Wi-Fi on laptop:

1. Disable Location services

A few users managed to fix things when Wi-Fi was low only on one laptop by disabling Location. Do try it and check if it helps improve the speed in your case.

2. Re-enable the Wi-Fi adapter

Now, check if the slow Wi-Fi problem on your laptop is fixed. If not, head to the next solution.

This is the automatic method to update drivers and isn’t always helpful. That’s why we recommend you manually update the network drivers in Windows.

To make sure that the installation is safe and fast, we recommend you use a third-party tool, Outbyte Driver Updater, which is specialized in driver updates.

⇒ Get Outbyte Driver Updater

4. Disable metered connection

Expert tip:

3. Disable the toggle for Metered connection here.

5. Uninstall applications that consume high bandwidth 6. Boost your Wi-Fi signal

You can boost your Wi-Fi signal using an awesome software called Connectify Hotspot. This program allows you to transform your PC into a Wi-Fi hotspot just like with a router, only that it’s a lot easier to work with and has a comprehensive user interface and menus.

And if you choose the Hotspot PRO or MAX versions, you will also be able to share your 3G or 4G LTE networks.

7. Reset the network settings

If the problem lies with the network configuration, resetting it should do the trick. In case this, too, doesn’t work, you will have to go with either of the two solutions below.

8.

Use a Wi-Fi Extender

The problems with your slow Internet connection might be caused by a blind spot or a fluctuating signal. You can fix that by using a Wi-Fi range extender.

We recommend NETGEAR Nighthawk because it creates a strong and steady Wi-Fi signal, exactly what you’re looking for.

It’s easy to set up, and you can connect it to the router using the WPS button or its designated app. Moreover, it’s a really small device that won’t interfere with any of your other setups.

NETGEAR Nighthawk has Wi-Fi coverage of up to 2500 square feet and can connect to more than 30 devices, including laptops, phones, tablets, or IP cameras. Its AX6000 Wi-Fi speed and smart roaming function recommend it as a professional device.

9. Get a new Wi-Fi card

If you are using an old laptop, it’s likely that the Wi-Fi card is not capable of handling high speeds. In this case, getting a new Wi-Fi adapter is the best way forward.

How do I change my laptop from 2.4 GHz to 5GHz?

We recommend consulting a professional who can recommend the best Wi-Fi adapter for your laptop.

What Is A Good Download And Upload Speed?

Life without the internet these days feels like it has come to a halt. Internet is much more than what it was intended for, with people depending on it for media consumption, socializing, and work, among others. To browse the internet, you will need a stable connection to prevent data drops.

While we have moved on from the era where the maximum speeds were limited to 256 kbps, the definition of good download and upload speeds is still up in the air. Here I shall discuss what is a good download and upload speed for optimum usage.

The term internet speed can be a bit misleading, as you cannot actually measure the speed of the internet. What you get is actually bandwidth, which is the amount of data that your provider sends you. This is measured in packets, and the numbers presented to you is the packet data sent to you over a period of time.

2 MBPS data speed directly means your provider will be sending you 2 MB data per second, which is the speed referred to in the pamphlets.

If you are wondering why there are two different internet speeds mentioned, upload and download speed serve different purposes on a network. Both these speeds are the transfer speeds between your router and/ or modem, and the server located at your ISP. Here is a brief discussion about them, so you can get familiar with them:

Download speed: This is the speed of data transfer from your ISP to your device. Thus, a download speed of 10 MBPS means that your provider sends 10 MB data per second to your device. On a home network, this is primarily what you will be dealing with, as a lot of your work will make use of the download bandwidth.

Your download bandwidth determines a lot of what you do on your computer. Such activities include media consumption, web browsing, listening to music, and much more.

Upload speed: This is the speed of data transfer from your device back to the ISP server. The measurements of upload speeds are done similarly to download speeds mentioned above. On a home network, the upload speeds need not be extremely high, while the same is not true for office networks.

Upload speeds are important for many tasks, such as sending big files over the internet, or while video chatting and conferencing. If you plan on making a lot of video calls, you will get better quality by taking a plan with higher bandwidth.

Symmetric internet refers to the situation when download and upload speeds are the same on a network.

That being said, here are the good internet speeds that are recommended for most tasks.

If most of your task will involve web browsing, the optimal speeds you need to be looking for is 10 MBPS download and upload. You should be able to open even the heaviest of websites without any issues, and even send emails with big files. This internet speed is not ideally recommended for streaming and video conferencing, as you may face some stutters.

If you are a binge-watcher like me, good download and upload speed should be 25 MBPS. This is also the value recommended by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as good internet speeds. However, bandwidth allocation highly depends on the quality of the internet streams.

Netflix recommends 3 MBPS download and upload speeds for streaming in standard definition (SD), 5 MBPS for streaming in high definition (HD), and at least 25 MBPS for streaming HDR or 4K content.

For live streaming TV in HD on your computer, you will need at least 8 MBPS download and upload speeds. This value will increase if you want to stream on more than one device, in which case you need more than 13 MBPS bandwidth.

Even for online gaming, you need good bandwidth to be able to compete with the players over the internet. While you also need to keep in mind other factors, you can begin by making sure you have good download and upload speeds to be able to quickly transfer data between your device and the server.

Apart from the bandwidth, you also need to make sure you have low ping and latency while gaming. Cable connections and fiber optic lines are preferred by gamers primarily due to this reason, as lower ping and good bandwidth eliminate the possibility of the game not responding in high-intensity situations.

Good ping is more important than the bandwidth for almost all internet gamers. Ping can be affected by your LAN latency, and a good bandwidth can improve your ping, however slightly.

For competitive shooters, you will benefit by making sure your ping times are closer to 20 milliseconds (ms). However, you can have decent gaming experience up to 100 ms ping, beyond which you will notice desync.

Better bandwidth will result in less latency and ping, which will help you getting better network performances during online gaming sessions. For online gaming, a good internet speed should be around 25 MBPS. Make sure your ping stays in the values mentioned above.

So there you have it. Now you have a brief idea about what is a good download and upload speed according to your usage. Comment below if you found this useful, and to discuss more your internet plan and doubts about it.

Roccat Browser 5 For Mac: Viable Alternative To Your Default Browser

Internet browsing is something you just kind of take for granted. As a Mac user, it’s tempting to just use Safari and not look any further for your browsing needs. That comes with a few pros and a few gotchas, as anyone who’s used Safari for any length of time will tell you.

But it is in some ways deficient, and often after a while you migrate to other browsers for greater compatibility and safety on the ever more complicated Web.

If you have chosen and are happy with either of those two options, then you might not have looked much further afield. But other options do exist.

Roccat Browser

A more recent contender for your browsing platform of choice is Roccat, part of a suite of software from Runecats.

First impressions: the browser is very light in file size, showing up as only 12Mb on loading, but obviously that might swell if items are saved into the contents of the application folder itself. (To put this in perspective, on this Mac we are using now, Firefox is 250Mb.)

On opening, you will see that the user interface is very pared down with nicely-designed icons very tightly packed into the top left

and top right of the window.

One of the first things you will notice when you start to use it is that Roccat comes with what it calls VisiTabs – each tab contains a little picture of the web page in it. It is a cool feature, and being able to locate the tabs at the side as well as the top of the page (where in our opinion are a little too big) is a good thing.

There is also a nice feature called Navigate Launchers which allows you to create shortcuts to your favorites. You can assign an often-used website to a single key for fast access. This is a cool feature, especially when you use some of the presets like “g” for Google, “gi” for Google Images and “y” for YouTube. For example, typing n;gi MakeTechEasier into Roccat will search Google Images for the term “MakeTechEasier.” This is actually one of the coolest parts of the system.

Conclusion

Fascinatingly it seems to inherit the web cookies from your other browsers, as some sites seemed to recognise the user even though it was the first time they’d been there on this browser. It also seems solid and non-buggy, possibly as a factor of how small a piece of code it is. There is so much less to go wrong. The VisiTabs are an interesting innovation but take up far too much room if left at the top, in our opinion, especially on a smaller monitor. You can apparently turn them off if you don;t like them, but how to do this was not obvious. For reaching and grabbing a tab fast, having a visual representation of the window was quite handy, though, and if you have a lot of screen real estate you may enjoy this feature. If you have a small screen it might be annoying.

That said, apart from the Visitabs, the rest of the browser is spartan and lean, and it makes for a very clean view of web pages with very little in the way of distracting clutter around the outside. It is innovative, different and a fresh take on what a browser should be, so is worth at least checking out to see if it could be your browser of choice.

It’s fast, it’s light, it’s free, and it’s solid. We’re not sure it would replace Firefox as the browser of choice, but it’s certainly a viable alternative, especially for smaller lower-powered machines or older Macs.

Group Policy is one of the most powerful features of the Windows operating system.

It allows you to control the way users and computers behave on your network.

However, it can take some time for group policy to take effect or fail to apply especially if you have a large number of clients that need to apply the policy.

Fortect is a tool that does not simply cleans up your PC, but has a repository with several millions of Windows System files stored in their initial version. Download Fortect and install it on your PC.

Start the tool’s scanning process to look for corrupt files that are the source of your problem

Fortect has been downloaded by

Group Policy applies settings to users and computers in Active Directory domains. A domain is a collection of objects that belong to one another — users, groups, computers and so on.

You can use Group Policy to configure settings and preferences for these objects at the domain level. Once configured, all the members of the domain will receive those settings as soon as they’re applied.

This makes Group Policy ideal for managing large networks. It saves you from having to set up individual configurations for each computer or user.

Group Policy should apply almost instantaneously depending on a number of factors. However, if you wait several minutes or longer and the policy isn’t applied, then something is wrong.

Although it is a core Windows feature, it is not available on each version. Nonetheless, no need to worry as we have covered ways how to install the Group Policy Editor using the Group Policy Management Console.

How long does it take for Group Policy to apply?

Applying a Group Policy is not an instantaneous process. The answer depends on a number of factors. The size of your Active Directory domain, the number of GPOs linked to the domain, and how many policies are being applied at once all play a role.

If you have a small number of GPOs that targets a few computers, it will take a relatively short time for them to apply. On the other hand, if you have many GPOs that target many computers, it will take much longer to apply.

How often is Group Policy applied?

Group Policy objects are applied every 90 minutes by default. However, this interval can be changed using the Gpupdate command.

Group Policy is applied in two phases:

Background refresh – This phase occurs every 90 minutes by default and forces a refresh of Group Policy in the background. It does not require a user logon or computer restart and results in a new version of the GPO. The background refresh operation continues even if there are no changes to GPOs in a domain.

User logon – This phase occurs when a user logs on to a system and applies any changes made since the last logon or reboot occurred. It always applies policies from all domains in that forest, regardless of whether they have been updated since the last logon or reboot occurred.

What can I do if Group Policy is not applying?  1. Ensure you are signed in to the administrator account

If you’re logged in as a standard user, you won’t have access to the resources needed to fix the problem. You’ll need to log off and sign back in again before making any changes. An administrator account has administrative privileges that can modify settings.

You will need to set the account as an administrator. Alternatively, you can create another user account and then assign yourself the administrator privileges.

2. Create another user account

If you’re struggling to get Group Policy to apply, it might be worth checking your user account. If the account is corrupt, it can cause problems with Group Policy.

To check whether your account is corrupt, try logging on with another account. If this works fine, then there’s a problem with your user account. You may need to fix it by deleting and recreating it.

3. Uninstall recently added programs

Expert tip:

This can cause problems with the GPO application. Some GPOs require certain registry values to be present in order for them to be applied successfully. You’ll need to find out if any changes were made in this area and restore them if necessary.

You can quickly uninstall these programs with CCleaner. This tool helps you manage your apps more easily because it lists all of them in one place and lets you uninstall any program you prefer. It can also remove junk and build-up files that can cause issues to your PC.

⇒ Get CCleaner

4. Refresh policy settings

Hit the Windows key, type cmd and select Run as administrator.

Type in the following command and press Enter: GPupdate/force

If you have recently made changes to your policies and want them immediately applied, running this command will force them to be refreshed immediately even if they haven’t been refreshed since your last logon.

You don’t need to restart the computer after running this command because it doesn’t change anything in memory but rather refreshes policy settings from the server.

5. Reset Group Policy Editor

Hit the Windows key, type cmd and select Run as administrator.

Type in the following commands and press Enter after each one: RD /S /Q "%WinDir%System32GroupPolicyUsers" && RD /S /Q "%WinDir%System32GroupPolicy" gpupdate /force

Restart your PC.

If the group policy update is not working, you may have to reinstall your Windows version and see if this resolves the problem.

How do you check if Group Policy is applied or not?

To check if Group Policy is applied to a computer, you can use the Gpresult command-line tool. The Gpresult command accepts a number of parameters that allow you to view different parts of the Group Policy settings that are applied to a computer.

To check, follow the steps below:

Hit the Windows key, type cmd and select Run as administrator.

Type the following commands and press Enter after each one: chúng tôi gpresult /r /scope:user gpresult /r /scope:computer

The two commands specify different policies applied. Computer-based policies affect only computers and not users. User-based policies affect only users.

You may also run into a problem where Group Policy is greyed out but we have adequately covered various ways to address this issue.

If you find out that your version of Windows doesn’t have Group Policy installed, we also have a guide to help you get around it.
