SSD drives offer fast performance and reliable storage solutions, and combining multiple drives can provide even greater storage capacity and efficiency.
However, the process of merging SSD drives may raise concerns about data loss and potential complications.
In this guide, we will explore proven methods and techniques to merge SSD drives while ensuring your data’s safety seamlessly.
Can you merge two SSD drives without losing data?Yes, combining two SSD drives without losing data is possible, but not without using a reliable third-party tool.
However, if you don’t have any data on one of the drives or already have a backup, there are other options to do so. Here we have listed all the options that you can use to merge SSD drives:
Software-based data migration – With a disk cloning tool, you can copy all the data, including the operating system, files, and partition & create a replica of one SSD drives onto the other.
RAID configuration – This method combines the storage capacity and improves performance but may require reformatting the drives, resulting in data loss. Back up your data before using it.
Storage Spaces – This in-built Windows feature allows you to create a virtualized storage pool using multiple physical drives. However, you may lose the data.
Dynamic Disk Spanning – Another Windows feature that lets you extend the existing partition onto the second SSD drive but at the cost of your data.
Now that you know that you can merge SSD drives without losing data let us check out the methods, including Windows’ inbuilt features.
How can I merge two SSD Drives? Before are some prerequisite checks you need to perform below following any of the methods mentioned below:
Back up your computer data to avoid any potential loss.
Ensure the combined capacity of the two SSD drives is large enough to accommodate the data from both drives.
Make sure both drives are connected properly before using any of the methods.
Verify the compatibility of both SSD drives and the merging method you plan to use.
Check if some unallocated space is available.
Once you have checked these, let us move to the actual techniques to get this done.
1. Use Storage SpacesOnce done, a partition with a capacity equal to the total capacity of the two SSD drives combined will appear.
2. Use the Disk Management toolNOTE
This process requires converting the drives to dynamic disks, which may limit compatibility with other operating systems or devices. Also, you need to delete data from one of the drives available.
1. Convert the basic disk to dynamic 2. Extend the disk 3. Use a third-party toolBefore proceeding with any method, backing up your data to ensure its safety is crucial. However, if you want to merge your SSD drives without it, you must use a third-party partition tool.
If you are looking for ways to merge two or more partitions on Windows 11, we recommend you check out this informative guide to find the accessible methods.

How To Merge Two Documents In Microsoft Word
Sometimes when you’re collaborating on a word document with co-workers or editors, the number of copies, edits, and changes can quickly grow out of hand. This is why it’s helpful to have the option to combine two separate documents in Word, because a copy and an edited copy will not only merge, but you’ll also have the option to label which changes were made by a specific author and when.
Learn how you can easily merge two documents in Microsoft Word.
Merge the Two DocumentsThis will open up a secondary box where you’ll need to select the two documents you want to combine from a drop-down list.
Choose the first document you want to act as the master. In general, you’ll want this to be the original copy, while the second document should be the copy with any edits from other people. Also, make sure you use the “Label unmarked changes” box to identify which users made changes to which aspects of the document.
Manage the Combined DocumentOnce the document is merged, you’ll be greeted by the following window.
Here you’ll see three independent sections – the left showing the “Revisions” made to the document, the middle showing the combined document, and the right section which will show both the original document and the revised document simultaneously.
Merge in Additional CopiesIf you’d like to add in more copies (such as in the example of having multiple edits per document), simply repeat the same process as you did above, but use the “Revised document” as your original copy, and then find the secondary documents you want to add in from the same list you used for the initial import.
Copy and PasteOf course, if you want to cut down on all the complicated measures listed above, there’s always the trusty process of simply hitting Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V.
To use this option, find the source text that you want to import into your new document, and select anything you want to bring over with your mouse.
Wrapping UpThe way you choose to merge your two documents will ultimately depend on the amount of control you want to have over what gets imported, as well as how many edits are made available during the revision process. Luckily, Word includes several different options for merging documents, so you can use it however suits your personal case the best!

Can You Use Apple Watch Without An Iphone?
The Apple Watch is widely considered to be the best-looking and most functional smartwatch on the market today, but it’s very much a part of the tightly-knit Apple ecosystem. Is it possible to use an Apple Watch without an iPhone?
First, let’s be clear about what we mean by using an Apple watch “without” an iPhone. One interpretation of this is using an Apple Watch with a non-iOS phone. I wrote an article about this here, but the short answer is no.
The next interpretation is whether you can use your Apple watch away from your iPhone. The answer to this is yes, Apple Watch will continue to work just fine if you leave your iPhone somewhere and walk away. The watch has its own hardware and is actually a fully-fledged smart device in its own right. At least from a hardware point of view.
Which brings us to the third interpretation. The one that’s most likely why you’d ask this question. Can you use an Apple Watch as an independent device, without an iPhone or any sort of companion device? The answer to this is no. At least right now. However, there’s a little more meat to this third interpretation than just a plain answer can provide.
You need an iPhone to set up your Apple WatchThe Apple Watch is designed as a companion device for the iPhone. Not for iOS, but the iPhone specifically. So you can’t use its app on an iPad, Apple TV, or iPod touch. The Apple Watch set up process depends on an iPhone, so there’s no way of getting around this.
The cellular Apple Watch is the most independent modelAll Apple Watch models have wireless communication ability. Usually it will get the information it needs from your iPhone via Bluetooth. Which is very power-efficient and will produce the best battery life for your watch. If your phone isn’t available, it can fall back to WiFi, which means you need to be in range of a known network.
Cellular versions of the Apple Watch can operate in this mode wherever you have signal from your carrier. Which means, while it isn’t independent, the cellular model is the most independent version of the watch at the time of writing.
What you can do with no iPhone but with internetAssuming your watch has an internet connection but isn’t connected to your iPhone, there are still quite a few things you can do with it:
Siri
Voice-over-IP calls
iMessage
Internet-based audio apps
Use any apps that need an internet connection
What you can do with no iPhone and no internetWhen it’s just you and your Watch, there are still some things you can do despite having no connection to the outside world:
Using downloaded audio content
Photos and other content synced from your phone
Apple Pay
Time-related stuff like alarms and the stopwatch (obviously!)
Health apps for heart rate, activity, etc.
So with no external connection, the Apple Watch still makes for a decent fitness tracker and music player, but not much else.
A more independent future? The Apple Watch has some truly powerful hardware inside it for a smartwatch. Its design, material options and overall package make it interesting to a wide range of people. Many of whom may not be iPhone aficionados. Right now Apple clearly sees their Watch as a companion device, not a standalone product.
However, the same was true for the iPad when it first launched. Most people may not remember this, but you had to connect the iPad to either a Mac or PC to even get it going. These days Apple is marketing the iPad as the only computer you’ll ever need. Maybe one day they’ll feel the same about their sought-after wearable.

How To Export Photos From Lightroom Without Losing Quality
Home » Tutorials » How to Export Photos from Lightroom Without Losing Quality
You’ve worked hard on your images. From choosing the perfect camera settings to applying the exact edits to create your vision, it’s been a careful process. The last thing you want to do is ruin the overall effect by posting or printing low-quality images after exporting them from Lightroom!
Hey there! I’m Cara and as a professional photographer, I totally understand your need for a perfect presentation. It is quite simple to export images from Lightroom but you need to use the correct export settings for your purpose.
This is where it can get a little tricky. Depending on where your image will be displayed, (Instagram, in print, etc.), the export settings will vary.
Let’s take a look at how to export photos from Lightroom without losing quality.
Before exporting your file, you need to decide what you’re using the image for in order to choose the best size to export photos from Lightroom.
Note: the screenshots below are taken from the Windows version of Lightroom Classic. If you are using the Mac version, they will look slightly different.
Determine the Purpose of Your Image
There is no one-size-fits-all method of exporting images from Lightroom.
The high-resolution file needed for printing images is too heavy for social media use. It will take so long to load that you’ll have lost your audience. Plus, most screens can only display up to a certain amount of quality. Anything more just creates a larger file and doesn’t add any benefit.
Furthermore, many sites like Instagram and Facebook limit the file size or require a certain aspect ratio. If you don’t export to the correct settings, the platform will reject your image or may crop it weirdly.
Lightroom gives us a lot of flexibility in choosing export settings. Unfortunately, this can be overwhelming for beginning users or those who don’t know the best settings for their purpose.
Start by figuring out your purpose. In just a moment, we’ll talk about export settings for the following purposes:
Social Media
Web
Moving to another program for further editing
How to Export High-Quality Photos from Lightroom
After deciding on the purpose of the photos, follow the steps below to export high-quality photos from Lightroom.
Step 1: Choose the Export Option
Alternatively, you can press the Lightroom keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + E or Command + Shift + E.
Step 2: Choose Where You Want the Exported File to Be Saved
For client shoots, I typically stick with the same folder as the original photo and then place the edited images in a Subfolder called Edited. This keeps everything together and easy to find.
In the next section, File Naming, choose how you would like the saved file to be named.
Skip down to the bottom two sections for now. Check the Watermark box if you want to add one (learn more about watermarks in Lightroom here).
You also get a few After Export options. These are helpful if you’re exporting the image to continue editing it in another program.
Step 3: Specify Edits According to the Purpose of the Image
Now we’ll jump back up to the File Settings and Image Sizing sections. These are what will change depending on the purpose of your exported image. I’ll quickly explain the setting options below.
Image Format: for social media, web, and printing, choose JPEG.
You can use TIFF files for printing but these files are generally huge with minimal visible quality benefits over JPEGs.
Choose PNG for images with a transparent background and PSD to work with the file in Photoshop. To save as a versatile RAW, choose DNG or you can keep the original file format if you choose.
Color Space: Use sRGB for all digital images and usually for printing unless you have the specific color space for your paper/ink combo.
File Sizing: The right file size for your purpose is an important part of your export settings. For print, you should prioritize high-quality over file size.
However, the opposite is true when exporting for social media or web use. Many social media platforms have file upload size limits and won’t allow you to upload large files.
Even if you can upload them, high-resolution images can actually look worse because the platform awkwardly tries to reduce a large file size itself. Upload a small enough image and you avoid that altogether.
Let’s look at the file size reduction options Lightroom offers.
Quality: For print files, keep the quality at its max value of 100. You can also use 100 for web or social media files but whatever platform you’re using will compress them.
To avoid this compression, try exporting images at 80 quality. This is a good balance between file size and load speed.
Limit File Size To: This box offers another option for limiting file size. Check the box and type in the size you want to limit to. Lightroom will then determine what is the most important information to retain so you don’t lose perceived quality.
Lightroom also allows you to pick the exact size of your exported images. This is helpful for social media sites that have specific image size requirements. Instead of allowing the platform to resize your images automatically, you can export them at the right size.
Resize to Fit: Check this box and then open the dropdown menu to pick which measurement you want to impact. Don’t resize when exporting for print.
Resolution: Resolution doesn’t matter too much for digital images. You only need 72 dots per inch for viewing on a screen. Set this at 300 pixels per inch for printing
The Output Sharpening section is pretty self-explanatory. Check the box to add a touch of sharpening to your image — almost all images will benefit.
Then choose to optimize the sharpening for Screen, Matte Paper, or Glossy Paper. You can also choose a Low, Standard, or High amount of sharpening.
In the Metadata box, you can choose what type of metadata to keep with your images. You might add the model’s name or other information for easy sorting.
Remember that this information will travel with your images, even when posting online (except for programs like Instagram that strip the metadata).
Whew! Did all that make sense?
Step 4: Create Export Presets
Of course, here is the real question. Do you have to go through all these settings manually every time you want to export an image? Of course not!
You can set up a few export presets covering all your typical purposes. Then, when you go to export your image, all you have to do is select the preset and you’re good to go.
To save a preset, choose the settings you want to use. Then press the Add button on the left.

1. Learning Resources 1.1 Awesome Data ScienceThis GitHub repository is an ultimate resource guide to data science. It is built upon multiple contributions over the years with links to resources ranging from getting-started guides, infographics to people to follow on social networking sites like twitter, facebook, Instagram etc. There are plenty of resources waiting to be viewed, irrespective of whether you are a beginner or a veteran.
A look at table of contents of the repo says it all about the depth of resources in the repository:
1.2 Machine Learning / Deep Learning Cheat SheetThis repository consists of the commonly used tools and techniques compiled in the form of cheatsheets. The cheatsheets range from very simple tools like pandas to techniques like Deep Learning. After giving a star or forking the repository, you won’t need to google the most commonly used tips and tricks.
To give you a glimpse, the different types of cheatsheets are pandas, numpy, scikit learn, matplotlib, ggplot, dplyr, tidyr, pySpark and Neural Networks .
1.3 Oxford Deep Natural Language Processing Course Lectures 1.4 PyTorch – TutorialAs of now, PyTorch is the sole competitor to Tensorflow and it is doing a good job of maintaining its reputation. With the ease of Pythonic style coding, Dynamic Computations, and faster prototyping, PyTorch has garnered enough attention of the Deep Learning Community.
This repository contains codes for Deep Learning tasks ranging from learning basic of creating a Neural Network in PyTorch to coding RNNs, GANs and Neural Style Transfers. Most of the models have been implemented with as few as 30 lines of code. This speaks volume about the abstraction provided by PyTorch so that researchers may focus on finding the right model quickly rather than getting entangled in the nitty gritty of programming language or tool choice.
1.5 Resources of NIPS 2023This repository is a list of resources and slides of all invited talks, tutorials, and workshops in NIPS 2023 conference. For those who do not know what NIPS is, it is an annual conference specifically for Machine learning and Computational Neuroscience.
Most of the breakthrough research that has happened in the data science industry in the last couple of years has been a result of the research that has been presented at this conference. If you want to stay ahead of the curve, this is the right resource to follow!
2. Open Source Softwares 2.1 TensorFlowIt has been 2 years since the official release of TensorFlow, but it has maintained the status of being the top Machine Learning / Deep Learning library. Google Brain and the community behind the development of TensorFlow has been actively contributing and keeping it abreast with the latest developments especially in Deep Learning domain.
TensorFlow was originally built as a library for numerical computation using data flow graphs. But looking at its current state, it can be pretty much said to be a complete library for building Deep Learning models. Although TensorFlow majorly supports Python, it also provides support for languages such as C, C++, Java and many more. And a cherry on the cake, it can also be run on a mobile platform!
2.2 TuriCreate – A Simplified Machine Learning LibraryA recent open source contribution by Apple, TuriCreate is the talk of the day. It boasts of easy-to-use creation and deployment of machine learning models for complex tasks such as object detection, activity classification, and recommendation systems.
Being a data science enthusiast for some time now, I remember that void that had been created when Turi (the company that created GraphLab Create – an amazing machine learning library) was acquired by Apple. Everyone in the data science industry had been waiting for this kind of explosion to happen!
TuriCreate is developed specially for python. One of the best features that TuriCreate provides is its easy deployability of machine learning models to Core ML (another open source software by Apple) for use in iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS apps
2.3 OpenPoseOpenPose is a multi-person keypoint detection library which helps you to detect positions of a person in an image or video at real-time speed. Developed by CMU’s perceptual computing lab, OpenPose is a fine example of how open sourced research can be easily inculcated in the industry.
One of the use cases that OpenPose helps to solve is activity detection. For example, an activity done by an actor can be captured in real time. Then these key points and their motions can be used to create animated films.
OpenPose has a C++ API which can be used to access the library. But it also has a simple command line interface to process images or videos.
2.4 DeepSpeechDeepSpeech library is an open source implementation of the state-of-the-art technique for Speech-to-Text synthesis by Baidu Research. It is based on TensorFlow and can be used specifically for Python, but it also has bindings for NodeJS and can be used on the command line too.
Mozilla has been one of the main workforces for building DeepSpeech from scratch and open sourcing the library. “There are only a few commercial quality speech recognition services available, dominated by a small number of large companies. This reduces user choice and available features for startups, researchers or even larger companies that want to speech-enable their products and services, Together with a community of like-minded developers, companies, and researchers, we have applied sophisticated machine learning techniques and a variety of innovations to build a speech-to-text engine …” Sean White, vice president of technology strategy at Mozilla, wrote in a blog post.
2.5 Mobile Deep LearningThis repository brings about the state-of-the-art technique in data science to the mobile platform. Developed by Baidu Research, the repository aims to deploy Deep Learning models on mobile devices such as Android and IOS with low complexity and high speed.
A simple use case as explained in the repository itself is object detection. It can identify the exact location of an object such as mobile in an image. Pretty cool right?
2.6 VisdomVisdom is a library that supports broadcasting of plots, images, and text among collaborators. You can organize your visualization space programmatically or through the UI to create dashboards for live data, inspect results of experiments, or debug experimental code.
The exact inputs into the plotting functions vary, although most of them take as input a tensor X than contains the data and an (optional) tensor Y that contains optional data variables (such as labels or timestamps). It supports all basic plot types to create visualizations that are powered by Plotly.
Visdom supports Torch and Numpy within Python.
2.7 Deep Photo Style TransferThis repository is based on a research paper that introduces a deep learning approach to photographic style transfer that handles a large variety of image content while faithfully transferring the reference style. The approach successfully suppresses distortion and yields satisfying photorealistic style transfers in a broad variety of scenarios, including the transfer of the time of day, weather, season, and artistic edits. This code is based on torch.
2.8 CycleGANCycleGAN is a fun but powerful library which shows the potential of the state-of-the-art technique. Just to give an example, the image below is a glimpse of what the library can do – adjusting the depth perception of the image. The catch here is that you haven’t told the algorithm which part of the image to focus upon. It does this on its own!
The library is currently written in Lua, but it can be used in command line too.
2.9 Seq2seqSeq2seq was initially built for Machine Translation, but have since been developed to be used for a variety of other tasks, including Summarization, Conversational Modeling, and Image Captioning. As long as a problem can be moulded as encoding input data in one format and decoding it into another format, this framework can be used. It is programmed using the all popular Tensorflow library for Python.
2.10 Pix2codeThis one is a really exciting project using deep learning that attempts to automatically generate code for a given GUI. When building a website or a mobile interface, front-end engineers typically have to write repetitive code that is time consuming and non-productive. This essentially prevent developers from dedicating the majority of their time to implement the actual functionality and logic of the software they are building. Pix2code intends to remedy this by automating the process. It is based on a novel approach allowing the generation of computer tokens from a single GUI screenshot as input.
Here is a video explaining the use case of pix2code.
Pix2code is written in python and can be used to convert image captures of both mobile and web interfaces to code. The project can be accessed in the link below.

Should You Start A Business Without A College Degree?
Lack of key certifications: Many certifications from which a business owner in your field could benefit are only available to people with undergraduate degrees. Exceptions certainly exist, but generally, the certifications that make finding clients easier require a full formal education first. That means skipping college could hinder sales. Does your passion exceed your patience?
Sometimes, great ideas can’t wait, and spending four years in college will result in missed opportunities. This was the case for Taso Du Val, founder and CEO of global tech industry network Toptal.
“I wanted to go to MIT, but the thought of waiting for four years before starting my career troubled me,” Du Val said. “So, I started pursuing my passion for entrepreneurship at a young age and, years later, ended up fixing a problem I noticed in the IT outsourcing industry. It’s just something I had to do. I was not going to sit around for years, listening to information I would never need in my life.”
If you wholeheartedly believe that your business idea can’t wait four years to pursue, skipping college may be the right track. Many young entrepreneurs tackle their business ideas as passion projects while they attend college, but it is important to identify at what point your business needs your full attention.
Do you have any real-world experience in the industry?Hands-on experience in the industry you are pursuing is helpful, giving you the knowledge to see if you are on the right track. If you are unsure about starting a business without a degree, consider diving into your chosen industry to gain experience – perhaps working on your company as a side project before turning your idea into a full-time business.
Grech recommended volunteering with someone in the field before starting your own business, to learn if you like the industry, people and hours. People in some industries benefit from an apprenticeship or an internship.
“This will help you decide if you like the career enough to dedicate the time to starting your own business, and it will also help you assess your skills to know if you need further education to establish yourself as a professional in that field,” Grech said.
For Randy Wyner, founder and president of the restaurant franchise Chronic Tacos, there was no choice when it came to getting a college education. His responsibility to support his young son meant he had to get a job instead of going to school. After working his way up to a managerial position at Jiffy Lube in just a few years, Wyner knew he had all the experience and drive he needed to become a business owner. He allowed himself time to develop his entrepreneurial spirit before starting his journey.
“Hands-on learning helped me understand how to manage a business quicker, whereas college students learn mostly by memorization techniques and tricks,” Wyner said. “Following this path helped me grasp what to do and what not to do when running a business. Although college may educate you on business elements, you can’t learn how to run a business until you actually become an entrepreneur.”
Are you financially stable? While college is an investment, so is your business. You’ll need to calculate your expenses, create a budget and plan your timeline accordingly before dedicating your life to the project.
“Understanding the total costs is crucial,” Portesy said. “Before you pursue a new business opportunity, map out the total investment – purchase costs, opening inventory, and how much working capital you will need before you break even.”
Sometimes, students will go for a degree and work in an industry for a few years, or on the side, to earn money to support their entrepreneurial journey. If you don’t think you can cut it without a sustainable career to leverage your success, then you might want to focus on school first. However, if you are currently in school and feel strongly about devoting all your time to testing or growing your business, check with your college about its leave-of-absence policy and online courses.
Tip
The choice between going to college and starting a business often comes down to whether you need a sustainable income to support your business. Accounting software can help you figure this out. For examples, read about our best picks for accounting software, or our review of Wave Financial’s free accounting software.
