However, several users have reported encountering the Can’t connect to this network error in Windows 11.

This error prevents you from connecting to a network, which in most cases helps access the Internet. And, the worst part, it doesn’t mention what’s causing the problem, which makes the troubleshooting even more confusing.

Hence, before we head to the fixes, it’s imperative to have a look at the possible causes of the Windows 11 can’t connect to this network error.

What is causing the Windows 11 Can’t connect to this network error?

While there can be a plethora of these, we have listed the common ones to help you get acquainted with the issue and save some time while troubleshooting.

Issues with the connection

Problems with the modem/router

Outdated or corrupt network driver

Misconfigured network settings

Running an older version of Windows 11

If you remember making any changes to the network settings in the recent past, try reverting to the previous one. In case that doesn’t help, simply follow the steps listed here to get rid of the Windows 11 can’t connect to this network error.

How can I fix the Can’t connect to this network Windows 11 error?

1. Some preliminary checks

Before we delve into a bunch of intricate fixes, it only makes sense to cross out the simpler ones at the very start.

1.1 Check if airplane mode is disabled

Airplane mode basically cuts you off from any network. In case the mode is turned on, you may encounter the Windows 11 can’t connect to this network error. Disable the mode, and check if that fixes the problem.

1.2 Power off the modem/router

Like any other machine, the modem/router too needs rest for effective functioning. Though they are meant to run for days at a stretch, the internal components may heat up and cause issues.

To fix this, unplug the router/modem from the source, wait for at least 10 minutes and then replug it. Some come with internal batteries and continue to function even when disconnected, in which case, you will have to take out the batteries as well, to completely turn off the modem/router.

1.3 Check if you are able to access the network on other devices

Another important aspect that often goes unnoticed is to identify whether the problem lies with the PC or the network itself. Hence, it’s recommended that you try connecting to the network using other devices.

If a connection is established on the other device, you can continue with the methods listed in the article, since the problem is limited to your PC.

1.4 Clean the ports and firmly replug the cable

Over prolonged use, there are chances of dust buildup in the ports which may cause the Windows 11 can’t connect to this network error. Though the dust buildup is usually minor, it’s recommended that you clean the ports.

To do that, simply unplug the cables, lightly blow air into the ports, and then firmly replug the cables. Now, check if you are able to establish a connection with the network you were earlier facing issues with.

2. Restart your Windows 11 PC

If you encounter issues with the system, a simple restart should be your primary approach. When you restart the computer, the OS is reloaded and any trivial or minor bug causing the can’t connect to this network Windows 11 error is eliminated.

3. Reconnect to the network

1. Press Windows + I to launch the Settings app.

2. Select Network & Internet from the tabs listed in the navigation pane on the left.

4. Press on Manage known networks.

The network connection settings may get corrupt or misconfigured over time, which can cause network connections errors. In this case, it’s best to forget the network and then reconnect to it to try to fix the can’t connect to this network Windows 11 error.

5. Run the Network adapter troubleshooter

The built-in troubleshooters offered by Microsoft are an easy way of resolving both trivial and intricate errors in Windows. Once it’s run, check if the issue is fixed.

The Device Manager method works as an offline update and only installs driver versions that already exist on the computer. If you haven’t downloaded any previously, it’s highly likely that the driver won’t be updated.

In this case, you can look for the latest driver version in Windows Update or manually download it from the manufacturer’s website.

Also, you can use a dedicated utility to update the drivers installed on your PC. We recommend using Outbyte Driver Updater, a third-party tool that automatically scans the web for a newer version and updates the installed drivers.

7. Disable VPN 8. Reset network settings

Before resetting the network settings, make sure you save any open files so as to avoid data loss since the computer would be restarted during the process.

After the reset, Windows 11 can’t connect to this network error should be fixed.

Which is better, Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

If you are facing issues with the network, it’s recommended that switch to Ethernet or simply wired networks. These are far more reliable than Wi-Fi networks where the connections are wireless.

That’s all there’s to this network connection error along with the most relevant fixes for it. In case these don’t work, you can try to reset Windows 11 to its factory settings or roll back to Windows 10 if the problem started after upgrading to Windows 11.

If you started encountering Internet issues after updating Windows, find out how to easily fix them.

Connecting to Public Wireless Networks

When you are at airport or coffee shop, you can connect to the free W-Fi offered by them. Remember those free wireless connections are mostly not secured even though you need to validate your identity. So we strongly recommend not connecting to public wireless connection, especially for doing financial transactions.

Nowadays it is common to verify the connection with SMS message send to your phone. Also some public facilities offer QR code for scanning with, WeChat or WhatsApp for getting personal verification code.

Its important to note that the Internet connection may be quite slow in most public places, regardless of how good the connection strength is, due to the amount of people that are using the same connection. Due to this, it is usually better to be connected to a limited access connection, such as a personal/home Internet connection, or a password protected one (if you know the password), as the connection will be faster and much more stable.

11 Ways To Fix Can’t Find App On Your Android Phone

Sometimes, while using the phone, users can uninstall an app unintentionally. To check if you have accidentally uninstalled an app, you can easily check if the app you’re looking for is still downloaded on your smartphone.

3. Search for the app you’re looking for. If you’re unable to find it, the app has likely been uninstalled.

4. If so, you can go to the Play Store and download it again.

Due to Android’s flexibility, different UI Skins work differently to show apps installed on the phone, like an app drawer or no app drawer. There is a possibility that you’re looking for the app on the home screen instead of the App Drawer.

2. If you are still unable to find the app, try Searching for the app you’re looking for on this screen.

If you do not prefer to have a separate App Drawer consisting of All the Apps and wish to keep all your apps on your home screen itself.  Follow these steps to disable the app drawer on your phone, we have used Redmi Note 10 Pro running MIUI 13.

1. Go to Home Screen under your phone Settings.

2. Under Settings, go to the Home screen Settings.

3. Choose Classic instead of ‘With App Drawer’. This brings all your apps to one screen, similar to that of iOS.

Sometimes third-party launchers may be the root cause of the issue, of an app not being visible among installed apps. You can switch to your default launcher and check if the app is visible again.

1. From the same Home Screen settings as mentioned in the previous section, tap on Default Launcher.

If the app is present on your smartphone but you’re unable to find it, there is a chance that you might have been mistakenly added to a folder. Here’s how to check it.

1. Locate the Folder icon on your home screen or App Drawer.

Once you found the said app, you can simply drag the app out of the folder if needed.

Universal search is nowadays present on most phones. It is a quick way to search for anything you’re looking for, either online or also present locally on your phone. This includes apps downloaded on your phone.

5. Alternatively, you can swipe up twice on the home screen to view the hidden apps.

6. You can also modify the settings according to your requirements to configure how and when should the apps be hidden.

Another way to check if an app is hidden on your phone is to check the app status, whether it is installed on your phone or not, from the Play Store. Here’s how it can be done:

1. Go to the Google Play Store app, and Search for the app that you’re looking for.

2. If you see the Install button, then the app is not installed on your phone and you need to install it again.

If the app is already present on your phone and you’re still unable to see it, you can re-install the app, from the Google Play store. Once it has been uninstalled, you can re-install it and check if you’re able to view the app now.

Note: This will delete all your data in the smartphone permanently.

1. Go to Settings and tap on About Phone.

2. Here, tap on Factory Reset.

To avoid such issues in the future, you can enable a setting on your smartphone to automatically add new apps to your home screen when installed from the Google Play store. This prevents you from dragging and dropping it from the App Drawer every time, here’s how it can be done on MIUI.

1. Go to your App Drawer, on your Xiaomi Phone, running on MIUI.

3. Enable the toggle to place new apps on the home screen.

Now every time a new app is installed, it will be added directly to your home screen.

In order to address this, we provided the list of the most viable solutions. If you’re not seeing any definition updates for Windows Defender, move gradually through the list.

1. Check for updates

All chances are that you already tried this. As you already know, the Defender’s updates for virus and spyware protection come via Windows Update. However, as we already saw so many times before, these updates tend to misbehave. In order to surpass the automatic distribution (which is obviously failing in this case), you can navigate to Windows Defender Security Center and check for updates by hand.

Follow these steps to update Windows Defender via Security Center:

Open Windows Defender Security Center from the Notification area.

Choose Virus & threat protection.

Open Virus & threat protection updates.

If the error is persistent, follow the additional steps we provided below.

2. Make sure there’s no a third-party antivirus installed

Now, you already know that there’s no place for two antimalware solutions on Windows 10. Or any Windows iteration, for that matter. If you decide to place your trust in a third-party antivirus, Windows Defender will be disabled automatically. Now, if you, in the meantime, decide to use Windows Defender instead, it’s really important to delete all traces of the third-party antivirus which preceded it.

So, a thorough clean up is necessary in order for Windows Defender to work without any issues. You can navigate around and clean the associated files on your own, or use a third-party tool which will do it for you. There’s a huge list of available Uninstallers and Cleaners, so we recommend checking our list of the best available tools.

These tools will clear all remaining files and, after a restart, Windows Defender should work fine. However, if that’s not the case, there are a few more things you can do.

3. Restart services

Restarting the dedicated service for Security Center might help, as well. If Windows Defender is active, this service should automatically start with the system. However, due to a minor bug, certain system services tend to stop. Also, by restarting the service at hand, you’ll restart the system application, and this just might get Windows Defender going.

Here’s where to find the service and how to restart it:

Type services in the Windows Search bar, and open Services from the list of results.

Navigate to “Security Center” service and make sure it’s running.

4. Run SFC

When the built-in system resources start failing, the troubleshooting steps we commonly use on third-party applications are out of the reach. What we can do instead is employing the built-in tools. One commonly-used tool for addressing system errors is System File Checker also known as SFC. This tool runs through a command line and it verifies the integrity of system files.

Here’s how to run SFC in Windows 10:

In the command-line, type sfc/scannow and press Enter.

Wait until the procedure ends and restart your PC.

Try updating Windows Defender’s virus and spyware definition again.

5. Use CMD to enforce the updates

Expert tip:

Follow these steps to enforce Windows Defender updates with Command Prompt:

In the command-line, copy-paste the following lines and press Enter:

MpCmdRun.exe -SignatureUpdate

After that, press Enter again to update signatures and restart your PC.

6. Check Group Policy

As we already said, when you install a third-party antivirus, Windows Defender automatically disables. The system will see to it. However, if you’ve changed your mind, getting back to Windows Defender can, for some users, be quite a chore. Namely, in order to re-establish Windows Defender, you’ll need to confirm that the feature is enabled in the Group Policy Editor.

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

Type group policy in Windows Search, and open “Edit group policy“.

Navigate to: Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Defender Antivirus.

Make sure the “Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus” is disabled or not configured.

If you can’t access the GPE, there’s still a way to re-enable Windows Defender. You can navigate to Registry Editor and make some needed changes. However, please do be careful, as these are the risky grounds and a misuse can lead to critical system damage.

Follow these steps to tweak Defender-related Registry settings:

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows Defender.

Change its value to 0 (zero) and exit Registry Editor.

7. Download updates manually

If the issue is persistent and Windows just won’t comply, you can try to update the virus and spyware database manually. Namely, all latest definitions are stored online, on a dedicated website. You can navigate there and download fitting definition updates, depending on your OS version (Windows 10 or Windows 8/8.1) and the system architecture.

Follow these steps to install updates for Windows Defender manually:

Navigate to the official site with definition updates, here.

Scroll down and download the proper version suiting your system’s version and architecture.

Install it like any other application and restart your PC.

8. Reset PC to factory values

Finally, if you’re still unable to resolve the issue at hand after all previous steps, we suggest restoring Windows to its default values. This is much better than the reinstallation, as you get to keep your files. This is more of a refresh for the system and it’s a viable last resort if system features are giving you a hard time.

Follow these steps to reset your PC to factory settings:

Press Windows key + I to open

Update & Security.

Choose to

keep the files and continue with the resetting procedure.

That’s it. We hope this was an informative read and that you’re now able to update Windows Defender without issues. You need that definition up-to-date at all the times, so it’s quite dangerous to neglect it.

Still experiencing troubles? Fix them with this tool:

Some driver-related issues can be solved faster by using a tailored driver solution. If you’re still having problems with your drivers, simply install OutByte Driver Updater and get it up and running immediately. Thus, let it update all drivers and fix other PC issues in no time!
