Suggested March 2024 Everything New With The Redesigned Ios 16 Video Player

The default video player gets a big upgrade with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. The redesign brings a drastically modernized UI, as well as some new features and enhancements.

Apple uses the system video player in all of its apps, of course, but many third-party apps do too so these changes take effect across your entire iPhone and iPad experience. Here’s everything new to try in the iOS 16 video player.

iOS 16 is currently in developer beta and will be available for iPhone and iPad users later this year, probably in September. Adoption of the new system video player is automatic, requiring no code changes by third-party app developers, although apps that use custom video experiences will obviously not benefit from these changes.

After several years of staying the same, the video player is completely rethought in iOS 16. The overall changes are inspired by Apple learned with the overhauled system video player released last year on Apple TV with tvOS 15.

Redesigned controls overlay

Following tvOS’s lead, content titles are more readily visible with bigger font treatments labelling metadata like show and episode names (and a chevron reveals a short description). The player overlay now occludes significantly less of the video content, by removing almost all ancillary chrome. The previous top and bottom blurred-capsule toolbars have been replaced by simple sets of floating white buttons. The volume and time progress sliders have also been simplified, resembling thin bars without a visible nub.

The most common transport controls, like play and pause, have been lifted out of their old bottom toolbar placement and feature prominently in the center of the display, with easy-to-tap big buttons.

Tap to pause

In fact, Apple has further emphasized these transport controls with some interaction shortcuts. Regardless of whether the pause button is visible or not, the tap target is still active. This means you can tap in the dead center of the display to quickly pause the video. Tap again to play.

This saves time as you don’t need to tap twice anymore to pause; in earlier versions of iOS, you would need to tap once to show the controls, and then precisely tap the revealed pause button to actually stop playback.

Pinch to change aspect ratio

Apple has further reduced visible chrome by removing an on-screen button for the ‘fill display action’. This action can now be performed with a two-finger pinch gesture. Pinch in to zoom up content to fill the screen. Pinch out to contain the video inside of the device’s safe areas, avoiding insets like the notch.

The pinch replaces the double-tap gesture found in earlier versions. As double tap now does nothing, the video player doesn’t have to wait to interpret a tap. When you tap to show controls, the controls appear instantly — previously this had to be delayed because the UI was waiting to see if you actually wanted to double tap to zoom. It feels much more responsive overall.

10-second skip and playback speed options as standard

The previous video player offered 15-second skip. In iOS 16, the two skip options allow for ten seconds back or ten seconds forward. Apple says this change allows users to more easily calculate how far through a video they will travel when skipping.

Playback speed controls are now also enabled as standard, available in the ••• menu. By default, the system video player offers 0.5x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x playback rate options. Third-party apps can customize this menu with different speeds, if they like.

Scrub anywhere

With the removal of the explicit thumb nub on the slider, you can now slide anywhere along the track to move through the video. Whilst interacting with the slider, all other buttons quickly fade out of the way.

Furthermore, you can now scrub from anywhere on the screen. Begin a left or right drag — whether controls are visible or hidden — and the video will fast-forward or rewind in sync with your motion. When you end your swipe, the playback position comes to rest with inertia. With a couple quick swipes, you can skim through minutes at a time.

New In Ios 16: “Hey Siri, End Call”

You can ask Apple’s Siri assistant in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 to hang up a call in the Phone app or FaceTime on your iPhone or iPad, hands-free.

Apple is making it easier to hang up a call hands-free on your iPhone and iPad with its upcoming iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 software updates.

Ask Siri to hang up the current call on your behalf by saying “Hey Siri, hang up.” Of course, those on the call will hear you uttering the phrase.

Apple’s assistant has always supported voice commands to answer an incoming call. This is the first time Siri can also end an in-progress call.

A new feature for Siri: Call hang-up

In iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, which are currently in beta and will launch this fall, you can finally hang up a call completely hands-free. Simply say something along the lines of “Hey Siri, hang up” and your trusted digital assistant will do just that. There’s just one caveat: Those on the call will hear you speaking the phrase out aloud.

How to turn on Siri call hang-up

The ability for Siri to hang up a call is part of Apple’s set of improvements to Accessibility across its platforms. Even though it was designed to help people with motor or motion issues who may find it challenging to touch the red call button, anyone can use it. It’s turned off by default, but you can toggle it on in Settings.

Does this work on other Apple devices?

No. This feature is unsupported by Siri for Mac and Apple Watch.

Does this work with FaceTime and other calls?

Yes. Apple says this feature is supported in the Phone app and FaceTime. Presumably, it also works with VoIP calls from apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger which integrate with the Phone app via Apple’s CallKit framework.

System requirements for the Siri call hang-up

This particular command is part of Siri’s expanded offline support in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. On the iOS side, it requires Apple’s A12 Bionic chip or later so you’ll need at least an iPhone XS/XR or newer. Your iPad must also run at least an A12 Bionic chip, found in the fifth-generation iPad mini, third-generation iPad Air and eighth-generation iPad. According to Apple’s iOS 16 Preview page, Siri call hang-up is initially launching in the following seven languages: German (Germany), English (Australia, Canada, India, UK, US), Spanish (Spain, Mexico, US), French (France), Japanese (Japan), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland) and Cantonese (Hong Kong).

Everything new for Siri in iOS 16

iOS and iPadOS 16 improve the Siri assistant in a few ways, such as new offline requests for using HomeKit devices, the Intercom feature and your voicemail. When dictating texts with ‌Siri‌, you can now insert emoji. Siri will also automatically insert punctuation based on the pitch of your voice. You can ask “Hey ‌Siri‌, what can I do here?” to learn more about your device. To find more about a specific app, ask “Hey ‌Siri‌, what can I do with Notes?”. How To Download And Install Ios 16 With Mobile Data

Apple did not allow downloading large iOS updates through cellular/mobile data for a long time. That changes with the introduction of 5G. Those that use iPhone 12 and above need an active 5G plan to download iOS updates over cellular/mobile data. However, if you use the iPhone 11 or below, worry not, as there are other workarounds to download the iOS 16 with cellular/mobile Data.

Things to know before upgrading to iOS 16 through cellular/mobile data

How to install iOS 16 with cellular/mobile data

A couple of iPhones with support for 5G (iPhone 12 and above) can download the iOS 16 update through Cellular/Mobile Data without any issues. All you need to change are these settings:

Open Settings.

Select Cellular/Mobile Data.

Turn on the Cellular/Mobile Data toggle.

Tap Cellular/Mobile Data Options.

On the next page, tap Data Mode.

Select Allow More Data on 5G.

You can now download and install iOS 16, as following these steps would remove the data cap limits. However, ensure you have enough data left before you proceed so that you do not get stuck in between.

In this method, you need to trick your iPhone into believing it is living in the future. I’m not certain how changing the date allows you to bypass the data cap set on iPhone, but it works.

Open Settings on iPhone.

Tap General.

Select Date & Time.

Toggle off the Set Automatically option.

Select the date displayed below Time Zone. Example: 06-Sep-2024.

Move the date to at least one month ahead. Example: 06-Oct-2024.

Go back to General settings.

Tap Software Update.

Select Download and Install.

Once the update is downloaded, head to Date & Time and toggle on the Set Automatically option.

Once the Date & Time has returned to the real Date & Time, go ahead with the installation of iOS 16.

If the Download and Install option still appears grey, even after changing the date, try to switch the date a couple of times, and the option will be available.

There is a possibility that you do not have a Wi-Fi connection but rather have an active internet connection on your Mac or PC. In this scenario, you can download and install iOS 16 by connecting your iPhone to a Mac or PC through a compatible Lightning cable. Here’s how:

It is a possibility that if you have an unstable internet connection, the download will fail. In such cases, you will need to re-download the file. You can download the iOS update through a third-party website to prevent all this hassle. It is an especially useful method for users with unreliable internet connections. Follow these steps to download the iOS 16 update file.

Your iPhone will restart once the iOS 16 update is installed.

Share iPhone cellular data to Mac and use it as a Hotspot

This method will work for a specific group of people who own an iPhone and a Mac. All you need to do is connect your iPhone to the Mac and change a couple of settings. There’s no need to rely on third-party applications to perform any of the steps.

This works by sharing your iPhone’s cellular/mobile data to Mac via USB. Then, after tweaking some settings, the Mac will act as a Wi-Fi hotspot and share cellular/mobile data. Once the hotspot is set up, you can connect your iPhone to the Mac’s Wi-Fi hotspot, which is your iPhone’s mobile data.

All the steps mentioned in the steps are native Mac settings. Before we proceed with the guide, make sure to do the following.

Let’s begin.

Now, you need to connect your iPhone with the Wi-Fi hotspot shared by your Mac and install the iOS update. To do this:

Open Settings on your iPhone.

Tap Wi-Fi.

Toggle on the Wi-Fi option.

After searching for nearby networks, tap your Mac’s Wi-Fi network and enter your created password.

After establishing a successful connection, the iPhone will display the Wi-Fi logo at the top of its screen.

Once done, navigate to General.

Select Software Update.

You can now select Download and Install to update your iPhone to iOS 16.

For users who did not have the iPhone USB option in step 11

Wrapping up…

I am still unaware why Apple doesn’t allow users to download iOS updates through cellular/mobile data with a 4G network connection.

The above-listed methods will help you upgrade from iOS 15 to iOS 16 and work for other incremental updates. However, whenever you have the chance, please try and connect to a Wi-Fi network to update iOS on your iPhone. If you’re a beta user, you can easily uninstall iOS 16 beta and install the stable build of iOS 16.

The Ultimate List Of New Ios 5 Features

When Apple unveiled iOS 5 last Monday, Steve Jobs mentioned that their new OS for mobile devices included 200 new features. 10 of them were demo’d on stage, but what happens to the 190 remaining features?

Apple didn’t give us a list of these 200 features, so it was left to beta testers to find them out by themselves. After spending almost a week with iOS 5, we’ve compiled the most comprehensive list of new iOS 5 features to date. This list counts 121+ new iOS 5 features, both documented and undocumented…

The way Apple counts “new features” can be a little redundant. For example, Twitter integration is not just 1 feature but it covers several of them (ie. Twitter for maps, Twitter for Safari, etc…), so technically, there aren’t really 200 new features.

How To Play Gomoku On Imessage In Ios 16

Gomoku is a Japanese board game that’s been played all around the world for centuries. But why am I telling you this? Well, Apple has enabled us to enjoy this classic game on our iPhones via iMessage. It’s a game of strategy and foresight, and by the time you are done reading this article, you’ll surely become a Gomoku master. So, without further ado, let’s learn how to play Gomoku on iMessage.

What is Gomoku game?

With support from the App Store, iMessage has proven to be a goldmine for Apple users. Now, you can simply download your favorite applications to the app, and one of them is GamePigeon.

Here, we’ll talk about one of the most fun and compelling games you can enjoy with your friends on GamePigeon – Gomoku. The game offers a unique experience, as you can play this live with another person in iMessage itself. Upon downloading, you just must share the invitation link of the game through which the significant person can join you for fun.

This is the most cost-effective and safe way to enjoy a board game on your iPhone. Since it’s a cloud gaming feature, it does not affect your internal storage. Additionally, the game would be live till you allow it to be. Once you shut the game down, there is no trace left behind. As a result, the performance of your device is not at all affected by this feature.

Rules of Gomoku game

Gomoku is itself a very fun and intriguing game you can enjoy with your friends. However, anything I say won’t matter if you don’t know how to play this game. So, let’s take a look at the rules and regulations you must adhere to.

As the game begins, every player will be allotted a colored marker, black or white. The player must find a way to place five consecutive tiles without getting interfered with by the opponent. The first player to achieve this goal will be the champion. Simple, isn’t it?

Now that you’re familiar with the rules, here’s how you can enjoy this multiplayer bliss at your convenience.

Note: Since Gomoku is a multi-player game on iMessage, both you and your friend must have GamePigeon downloaded from the App Store. The method to do that has been mentioned below.

How to play Gomoku on iMessage using GamePegion

Launch iMessage on your iPhone.

Now, type GamePegion in the Search bar.

Tap the Get icon to download this add-on.

If prompted, verify yourself as the owner and wait for the download to succeed.

Go back to that. Select Gomoku from the Games menu.

If you desire, add a text below the game invitation → Hit Send (↑).

Meanwhile, your friend should accept the invitation to start the game.

As the game begins, the player prompted with Black Markers should make the first move.

Press Send to finalize your move.

As per the game’s rules, the first person who manages to place five consecutive markers will be declared the winner.

If you wish to exit, simply tap the Close icon from the top-right corner.

Can I cheat in Gomoku on iMessage?

Although cheating is not encouraged, you can technically cheat in Gomoku on iMessage by communicating with your opponent outside of the game. However, this goes against the spirit of fair play and may ruin the fun of the game.

Can I play Gomoku on iMessage with more than two players?

Technically, iMessage only supports two-player games of Gomoku. However, if you have a group chat with multiple players, you could take turns playing against each other and keeping the score manually.

Can I customize the board size or piece colors in Gomoku on iMessage?

Unfortunately, there are no customization options available for the Gomoku board on iMessage. You’ll have to stick to the default board size and black-and-white pieces.

Is there a time limit for moves in Gomoku on iMessage?

There is no built-in time limit for moves in Gomoku on iMessage. Playing in a timely manner is recommended to keep the game moving and avoid frustrating your opponent.

Challenge your friend today!

Playing Gomoku on iMessage is a fun and addictive experience that is perfect for casual gaming fans and competitive players alike. With its simple rules and strategic gameplay, it’s easy to learn but difficult to master. Gomoku on iMessage offers hours of entertainment and endless possibilities. So, what are you waiting for? Start playing Gomoku on iMessage today and experience the thrill of this timeless game.
