Suggested January 2024 Falcon Northwest Tlx Gaming Laptop Review
Our unique build:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M
CPU: Intel Core i7 4910MQ @ 2.90GHz
Memory: 16GB RAM (15.92GB usable)
Max Resolution: 1920 x 1080, 60Hz
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1
The display you’ve got here is an LED-backlit 1920 x 1080-pixel LCD, and it’s certainly decent. It doesn’t hold up to recent laptops we’ve reviewed including the Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro and the newest wave of MacBooks. Compared to other 1080p displays, this unit is great – if you’re coming from a display with far more sharpness and brightness, you’ll be in for a little shock.
Body robustness in this machine is spot-on. It’s heavy duty without being overly-heavy.
This isn’t the notebook you’re going to be sliding into your purse to bring on an airplane, but it is light enough to carry to school in a backpack. Not that you’ll be using the TLX for schoolwork, of course (not that you couldn’t if you wanted to do so).
You’ll have support for up to 4 drives, and this machine supports RAID 0&1. Here we’re working with a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA to keep things… simple. There’s also an optimal disk drive – pop-out and painted and everything!
That drive can work with Dual-Layer 8X DVD +/-R, and Blu-Ray action is optional.
Connectivity depends on Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11 a/b/g/n Wireless LAN – throughout our entire house we never had trouble connecting. Much more than can be said for certain towers we’ve tested recently. You’ve also got the option of plugging in a hard wire with this device’s one ethernet port.
Ports:
1x USB 2.0
3x USB 3.0
1x eSATA
1x HDMI port v1.4a (with digital audio output)
1x DVI-I
1x I-EEE 1394a Firewire
1x RJ-45 for LAN
1x Kensington lock slot
Below the keyboard you have a touchpad with 2 hard buttons and a fingerprint scanner. Scanning was top notch – from one direction and done at a nominal pace, but still, good.
The touchpad provided a great experience whenever we did end up using it. Soft-touch selecting items and scrolling through pages of content were done, no problem.
Once you start playing games though, and it’s still a mouse affair. Not because the touchpad is bad – because it isn’t – but because the gaming universe is still one of mice and console controls.
SIDENOTE: The Xbox One controller worked like a charm, as it always should with Windows 8.1, for all compatible games.
Built-in sound is provided by SoundBlaster Xi-Fi, built in Onkyo stereo speakers + subwoofer, headphone-out, S/PDIFLine out, and an amplified headphone out. Without headphones, this notebook sounds great. With headphones, this notebook is amongst the best-sounding audio-blasting machines we’ve ever heard -for games or otherwise.
Cooling noise from under the hood can be heard when the processing gets hardcore, but it’s not overly-loud. Headphones in, no problem.
Your keyboard here has three sections that can be lit up with one of several colors. Don’t expect Razer Chroma customization, but do expect red, blue, green, cyan, white, and yellow. Or just turn the whole lighting situation off entirely.
This laptop is delivered to users with a custom-made backpack with full-on Falcon Northwest branding. This is “The Falcon Backpack”, and it’s surprisingly well made.
Above you’ll see several images of the backpack – stay tuned for our full “mini review” of this unit.
The smooth Candy Red paint job is a stand-out feature on this machine. With Falcon Northwest you know good and well you’re getting your money’s worth in exterior looks, while the NVIDIA/Intel combo inside brings the combo to be beat for high-powered processing.
There is literally no angle at which I was able to photograph this paint job that made it look bad. It’s top-tier material without a doubt.
Don’t expect one whole heck of a lot of battery life with this device, even after NVIDIA’s battery optimizations. If you really crank on the settings you’ll be able to get a 3-hour flight out of this laptop – perfectly legit for a flight, but not great if you expect the best of the best in graphics.
Such is the life of the gaming laptop.
On the other hand, plugging this device into a wall outlet will get you graphics like you’ve never seen in a notebook before.

Overclockers Uk Titan Falcon Review
Our Verdict
The Overclockers Titan Falcon embraces the spirit of overclocking by boosting the performance of lower-spec components to match their more expensive counterparts, but without the higher price and all backed by a superb 3-year warranty. This overclocked Ryzen 7 1700 system occasionally outperforms those based on the pricier 1700X chip and makes no sacrifices on build quality. You may wish to upgrade to a more powerful graphics card for resolutions above 1080p, but the price will remain highly competitive.
Ryzen 7 chips.
OVERCLOCKERS UK TITAN FALCON REVIEW: PRICEYou can buy the Titan Falcon direct from Overclockers UK.
At the time of review it cost £1260 but prices do fluctuate so it may not exactly this price on the day you check.
The website gives you the option to reconfigure the system to your taste – the link above will pre-load the specifications as reviewed. We recommend switching the RX 480 graphics card for the Gigabyte Aorus Radeon RX 580, which is the second generation of the card and costs exactly the same, yet is a bit faster. Find out more about the Radeon RX 580.
If you want an Nvidia graphics card instead of AMD, though, you will have to get that added manually.
Don’t forget to also check out our full roundup of the best gaming PCs.
OVERCLOCKERS UK TITAN FALCON: DESIGN AND BUILDThe Titan Falcon is housed in a Cooler Master MasterBox 5 system case with a matt black finish inside and out, flexible internal mounting options and convenient cable management. Built in 120mm cooling fans are fitted front and rear and a removable dust filter protects the power supply at the bottom.
It’s not the fanciest of cases, but the transparent side panel gives you a good view of the internal components which glow in red and blue, thanks to LEDs built into the motherboard and graphics card as well as a dedicated LED strip light.
Other than that, there’s not much to be seen inside as the 2TB Seagate Barracuda hard drive and 650W Cougar VTX 650W 80 Plus Bronze power supply are hidden from view in their own compartments at the bottom of the case with the cable management concealing any unsightly wires.
The hard drive is supplemented by a super-fast 256GB Samsung SM961 NVMe PCI-Express SSD which holds the operating system and any other data which may need frequent high-speed access.
Sticking with the AMD theme, Overclockers has opted for a Sapphire Radeon RX480 Nitro+ OC graphics card in this PC. It’s a factory overclocked model which offers a little speed boost over the standard RX480 and comes with dual cooling fans and a backplate as well as the LED illuminated logo mentioned earlier.
These components, along with 16GB of 2400MHz RAM, are assembled in an Asus Prime B350-Plus motherboard which comes with comprehensive overclocking and fan control options as well as enhanced gaming audio, 10Gb/s USB 3.1 and built in LED illumination.
The B350 chipset used here is the poor cousin of the X370 chipset found in some more expensive systems, but it’s quite capable of a reasonable amount of overclocking.
If you’re intending on pushing Ryzen 7 right to the very limit though, you may be better off investing a pricier X370-based motherboard. You’ll definitely need one if you’re thinking of going with dual Nvidia graphics cards at any point in the future.
However, the Asus Prime B350-Plus is a perfectly competent selection for this PC, in keeping with the philosophy of delivering top performance without a correspondingly high price tag.
OVERCLOCKERS UK TITAN FALCON: PERFORMANCEDespite being fitted with the lowest-spec Ryzen 7 chip, the Titan Falcon performs rather well, thanks to its pre-overclocked processor. Being an eight-core CPU it naturally shines when given heavily multi-threaded tasks such as the Cinebench R15 Multiple CPU test where it outperforms PCs based on the Ryzen 7 1700X in some cases and, of course, blows away any Intel-based quad-core system.
However, we’re primarily interested in the PC’s gaming performance, and here the performance of the Ryzen 7 chips can’t match the best that Intel has to offer – for now, at least.
Most of the available gaming performance is down to the graphics card of course. Fitted with the RX480, the Titan Falcon is confidently capable of 60fps Ultra-quality gaming at 1080p, although it does start to struggle a little when confronted with Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Stepping down to High quality brings the benchmark back to 60fps fluidity.
If you want better gaming performance, you can specify the Titan Falcon with a more powerful graphics card. For an extra £250 you could configure the system with a much faster Nvidia GTX 1080. This would give access to 2560×1440 or even 4K resolutions while keeping the overall system price competitive, thanks to the cost savings achieved through the overclocked CPU and B350 chipset motherboard.
The Samsung SM961 NVMe SSD is also a great boost to general performance which helps boost non-gaming benchmark scores above systems based on older SATA technology.
OVERCLOCKERS UK TITAN FALCON: WARRANTYOCUK offers an excellent three-year collect-and-return warranty which is one of the best available in the industry, covering parts and labour for the whole three year term. This is particularly valuable when investing in an overclocked PC with components pushed to their limits.

Playing Resident Evil 4 Remake at 1440p resolution at the highest settings requires good hardware. Hence, we recommend getting your hands on the ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition.
The ROG Strix G15 is one of the best gaming laptops on the market. It has an all-AMD configuration, meaning an AMD CPU and GPU, which helps enhance the components’ performance. Overall performance is excellent; The laptop provides RTX 3070 equivalent performance; however, the Ray-Tracing capability is not as good as the RTX laptops. The laptop is also missing a webcam, though this won’t be an issue for most people. However, if it is a problem for you, consider checking our best gaming laptop under $2,000 list, for something a bit pricier.

Locating a good 4K laptop for playing Resident Evil 4 Remake is difficult, as most of the 4K laptops in the market have a locked refresh rate of 60 Hz. Considering the money you are spending on these laptops, the refresh rate should be higher. Thankfully, new 4K gaming laptops are entering the market with 120 Hz refresh rates, and the ASUS Zephyrus S17 is one such great laptop. It is not a cheap device, but it’s more affordable than options like the 144Hz Razer Blade 17. Still, this is our recommendation if you want a smooth performance at 4K with maxed-out graphical settings.
Can I play the Resident Evil 4 Remake on my laptop?
The developers have released the official system requirement for Resident Evil 4 Remake, and you just have to look below to find the recommended requirements (ignore the minimum specs – these will run the game poorly even on low settings).
But there’s a catch. The official system requirements are based on desktop components. And if you get a laptop based on the recommended specs, you will get inferior performance, as there’s a massive power gap between the laptop and desktop hardware.
We suggest getting a laptop with one better than the recommended hardware to get the same level of performance. So, check out the models we have suggested below. You have listed laptops of different power levels capable of running Resident Evil 4 Remake at various resolutions and settings.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Recommended System Requirements (desktop)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / Intel Core i7 8700
RAM: 16 GB RAM
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit)/Windows 11 (64-bit)

The official recommended system specs for playing PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo are listed below (forget the minimum specs, they will barely run the game).
Getting lost in the spec sheet is easy, but you must carefully consider the laptop configuration before making the final purchase. The official system requirements are based on desktop components so the specs won’t measure up to the performance you desire on a laptop, as laptop components, especially the GPUs, are less powerful.
So, you need to make some adjustments, like getting a laptop with a slightly higher configuration than the recommended specs. It will get you the performance you desire on your new gaming laptop. Now, you need to choose, and we have discussed multiple laptops below of various power levels and prices.
PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo Recommended System Requirements (desktop)

The cheapest gaming laptop for conveniently running PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo at 1080p resolution is the GF65 Thin from MSI, which we still have the GH65 Thin listed in our best gaming laptop under $1,000 guide. The laptop still has two GPU variants available – RTX 2060 (old-gen) and RTX 3060. Both versions will run the game but we’d recommend opting for the RTX 3060 variant for more future proofing. Where possible also try and buy the i7 CPU version.
The laptop only comes with only 8GB of memory (enough to play the game) which you can always upgrade yourself. However, consider the ASUS TUF DASH if you don’t want all the hassle.

The Strix G15 has an AMD CPU and GPU, enhancing harmony between the components, resulting in better performance equivalent to many RTX 3070 laptops. However, the Strix G15 is behind in Ray-Tracing performance, though for a game like PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo at this doesn’t matter.
The absence of a webcam could be an issue for some people. If that’s a problem, check our best gaming laptop under $1,500 list. But you won’t find a better performer on the list. The laptop also has a 300 Hz variant, though this has the lower 1080p resolution. Make sure you get the right one.

Playing PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo at 4K will be expensive, but the problem most people have with a 4K laptop is the refresh rate. Most 4K laptops are capped at a 60Hz refresh rate.
It is not a downside for playing PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, but you should get bang for your buck if you want to play any other kind of faster-paced game: the MSI Creator 17 with RTX 3060 graphics is the perfect choice. The laptop is relatively affordable for a 4K laptop and has a 120Hz 4K display. Still, this device will struggle run anything particularly demanding at its native resolution. If you aim to play major titles alongside PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, get more powerful laptops like the ASUS Zephyrus S17, or the Razer Blade 17 with a 144Hz panel, though these cost significantly more.

Razer Huntsman V2 Gaming Keyboard Review
We may earn revenue from the products available on this page and participate in affiliate programs. Learn more ›
The Razer Huntsman V2 is, realistically, a tune up design. It updates Razer’s most popular keyboard with some features and design introduced in the keyboards the company made since the Huntsman Elite launched in 2023. In its full-size form, the Huntsman V2, adds a whole bunch of flashy little flourishes like 8K polling, which theoretically reduces input lag by increasing the number of times the keyboard communicates with your computer. The new release also adds PBT keycaps, and a redesigned wrist rest without any sharp plastic corners. None of these are essential improvements: In fact, they range from pleasant quality of life upgrades to borderline useless. Like Razer’s recently released mouse, the Basilisk V3, the Razer Huntsman V2 feels like a refresh that keeps the Huntsman current, rather than true innovation. While the Razer Huntsman V2 is a very nice gaming keyboard, and more worthy of its $200 price tag than the now three-year-old Huntsman Elite, there also isn’t anything here to get excited about.
Hunting down lag on the Razor Huntsman V2Huntsman is Razer’s line of gaming keyboards with optical switches, an increasingly common alternative to mechanical keyboards, where pressing a key pushes down a panel that allows a laser to shine through and “actuate” the key, sending an input signal. Switching from mechanical switches to analog in keyboards and mice is the next phase in PC gaming peripheral makers’ never-ending war on input lag. Lag is the gap between when you press a key or button and when the resulting action occurs on your screen. It can make a big difference when playing certain games that require quick reaction times.
In this case, using analog switches cuts out a very, very slight gap introduced by mechanical keys called “debounce delay,” where the keyboard determines what signal to send to your computer. Analog switches do not introduce debounce delay, using an analog keyboard theoretically shaves a few milliseconds of lag off each keystroke.
A few milliseconds is not a lot of time, but that’s what’s left to shave in terms of input lag. There was a time when input lag was a serious concern for everyone, particularly when using wireless devices. At this point, most people would be hard-pressed to tell the difference in lag between mechanical and optical switches without special equipment. However, with the recent boom in esports gear, there is an emphasis in high performance, so cutting lag anywhere and everywhere remains a priority.
Polling rate, not power levelMike Epstein
But that’s what was new in the original Huntsman Elite. The Razer Huntsman V2 doubles down on high performance features by adding the capacity to run at an extremely high (but not unprecedented) 8000Hz polling rate. Polling rate, a spec more commonly associated with mice, measures the maximum number of times a keyboard can send signals to a computer. The industry standard for keyboards and mice is 1000Hz, or 1000 signals per second. In the past, manufacturers have upped the ante to 2000Hz, but doing so showed no performance discernible improvements.
Earlier this year, a couple of companies, including Razer, introduced mice and keyboards 8000Hz polling. In mice, such as Razer’s Viper 8K, it can make cursor animation smoother and seemingly improves performance in reflex-driven actions, like a quick-draw gunfight in Call of Duty. Unlike mice, however, keyboards rarely put out a continuous signal, so increasing the number of inputs per second makes no perceivable difference in or out of games. It may shave a few microseconds off certain gaming actions, like stopping a dime when you release a movement key, only the absolute best players would need to pick a keyboard specifically for that kind of performance difference.
That begs the question, why add 8000Hz polling to a keyboard? Aside from the fact that it always looks better to make the numbers go up, the fact of the matter is that polling rate does improve things in some cases, and while no one has made a strong case for it in keyboards yet, it may become useful someday. In the Razer Huntsman V2, though, you can ignore it.
So what else is new, Razer Huntsman V2?Setting aside its new 8000Hz polling, the Razer Huntsman V2 is largely a cosmetic refresh. Measuring 17.31 by 5.5 by 1.59 inches (WDH)–or 17.31 by 9.03 by 1.59 inches if you include the wrist rest–it’s a smoother, sleeker design than the elite. The new version features more durable Polybutylene Terephthalate (AKA PBT) keycaps, ensuring that the lettering on the caps never fades.
The best quality-of-life improvement, by far, is a new wrist rest with wall-to-wall padding. The old wrist rest design had a plastic bezel that stuck to your skin and had pointy corners: this one’s comfortable from every angle.

In a press briefing, Razer also emphasized that the Huntsman V2 features a layer of sound-dampening foam inside, which takes the edge off of the keys’ mechanical clack. For keyboard enthusiasts, the tone of mechanical keys while typing can be almost as important as the technical aspects of the keyboard, so putting in the dampener helps cultivate a more pleasing sound.
Who Should Buy The Razer Huntsman V2?The Razer Huntsman is the latest in a beloved line of keyboards, but it isn’t as big an upgrade as some of its predecessors. Mike Epstein
If you’re looking for a Huntsman, the Razer V2 is realistically the right choice for most people. The more feature-rich Razer Huntsman V2 Analog has a more novel feature-set, but its signature feature, dual actuation, is only worth it for players who really like messing around with custom keyboard mapping.
The Huntsman Elite is still a great keyboard and likely worth getting over the V2 when retailers drop its price. Dollar for dollar, though, the Razer Huntsman V2 is the best construction and combination of features Razer’s put into a Huntsman. There are other notable optical keyboards, such as Corsair’s K100 RGB, but the Razer Huntsman remains the gold standard for this particular corner of the PC gaming universe.
