Suggested January 2024 How Apple Saved Taiwan And Turns On Tomorrow’S People

Nokia’s move to slam a lawsuit down against the Apple juggernaut’s profit phone hasn’t dented iPhone enthusiasm one little bit.

The device is impacting everywhere right now, with Apple’s iPhone component partners in particularly jubilant mood as millions of the devices shift every 13 weeks.

Don’t believe us? Just take a look at a gaggle of small Taiwanese firms – Yageo, Cyntec, Polytronics Technology, Mag.Layers Scientific-Technics, Thinking Electronic and TXC – all of whom faced steep revenue decline in the current quarter in the generally depressed tech market.

As we know, Apple isn’t part of the “generally depressed tech market”, which is why those small firms are breathing a little easier following this week’s Apple results call, as they now know they’re going to see, “narrower revenue declines or flat revenues in the fourth quarter of 2009 thanks to the popularity of Apple’s iPhone”.

DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole thinks the worldwide mobile and portable games market will reach $11.7 billion by 2014, which includes the PSP and DS, with Apple’s devices pushing 24 percent of software sales. He does expect Nintendo and Sony to lead the pack, but what’s not to love about Apple’s elegant and simple direct route to consumers through the App Store.

Happy consumers equate to happy developers (particularly since they can now get creative with in-app purchasing), happy carriers (just swoon at AT&T’s recent turn-on of 3.2 million iPhones in the US in its last quarter) and happy hardware and component manufacturers.

All this success is creating its own brand awareness mindwave, with a generation of US computer users now seeing Apple as the company which offers the solutions they can most relate to.

Think about what came out of this week’s Web 2.0 Summit, where Piper Jaffray analyst Safa Rashtchy sat down with five US teens to find out what tomorrow’s people think about all this pervasive internet-connected social network-driven apps and taps milawakey…the upshot, of course, is “Teens love Facebook and Apple…and are confused by Twitter.”

“The kids also had good things to say about Apple. One said Apple had “won” with it’s “I’m a Mac vs. I’m a PC” television commercials, while another declared, “Windows would be a good prison guard, because it always locks up.””

Interestingly, the teens remarked that “all the hot girls use Hotmail”, and none of them owned an iPhone, which just goes to reinforce the notion that despite our excitement at the hottest and newest technologies, most human beings take time getting down to drink at the new tech pond.

So, where’s all this going? Quite plainly put – while Apple’s competitors seem engaged in an endless race just to catch up on where the company was yesterday, Apple is already in poll position to take on another apparition once today’s teens turn twenty and begin to invest in the gadgets they love once they start to pull in some of their own money.

And Microsoft? Microsoft, for all its anti-Apple-seeming ad campaign, is really engaged on a mission to convince Windows XP users (who let’s face it are customarily an older bunch of consumers than tomorrow’s people) that Win 7 (which has a few set-up problems in MediaCentre, we’re hearing) is as cutting-edge and cool as the Mac Redmond really really wants its existing veteran customers to avoid defection too.

No sense underestimating Ballmer’s boys and girls, however, they have succeeded in breaking some sales records with their new OS – but while Apple’s partners are currently seeing success, Microsoft’s wide collective PC industry continues to attempt to manage its way through a shrinking market, praying the software firm will make it rain with it’s all-new OS release.

Apple’s betting that rain falls over to the California coastline too, and so are those small and large component manufacturers way over there in China and Taiwan…

Hope you enjoyed this spattering of news, fact, and opinionated speculation.

Playstation Turns On By Itself? Here’s How To Fix It

Sony’s consoles are robust and reliable but come with odd errors. Perhaps the most strange is when the PlayStation turns on by itself. Is there a way to fix it?

Perhaps you don’t remember turning on a PS4 or a PS5, but it’s still there, ready to play in your living room. If it happens a couple of times, you know it’s not your error. It’s the device, as this is an error that exists.

The PlayStation can turn itself on because of random system glitches or hardware errors. The problem is most likely easy to fix, but if you’ve been experiencing other errors on the console, you may need to perform a reset.

Although we’re looking at an alarming problem, we know some of its possible causes.

If you identify the culprit, you can fix the issue faster. So, here’re the potential enemies:

The “HDMI Device Link,” which connects the TV to the PS4 or PS5, is malfunctioning. That’s because both the TV and the PlayStation have the technologies, and both may be activating simultaneously.

A Rest Mode feature turns on the console if certain conditions are met.

The console is out of date, which causes some compatibility issues.

There’s a random bug in the system. Fortunately, PlayStation consoles offer various ways to clean it.

There’s a random bug in the software. Likely, there’re easy ways to clean the PlayStation.

Your controller has some gunk or clunky buttons. Because the controller can turn on the console with its PS button, this might be the case.

There’s internal damage to the console. If you believe this is the case, it needs repairs.

We’re dealing with software bugs, system bugs, or hardware bugs.

We’re going through a series of easy fixes, and you can try them one by one until you find a solution that works for you.

The HDMI Device Link is a feature that enables multiple HDMI devices to work together with the PlayStation. It’s part of the CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) specifications. Its purpose is to make different devices compatible with each other. For example, you can make a TV and an Xbox turn on and turn off together.

One of its intended results is making the PS5 or PS4 turn on when your turn on a TV system and choose the PlayStation’s input. You may also customize your TV’s remote to turn it on.

As you see, it has all the ingredients to be the culprit of this particular problem. Perhaps your console is connected to a SmartTV, an audio system, a speaker, a recorder, and similar. And then, when you turn one of these systems off, so does the console.

On PS5

Go to Settings.

Select System.

Open HDMI.

Disable HDMI Link.

On PS4

Go to Settings.

Go to System.

Uncheck the “Enable HDMI Device Link” box.

Like so, the PlayStation should be independent of your display and any other system that’s part of your entertainment center. It also won’t turn on when you swap the HDMI channels on your monitor and go past the PlayStation’s input.

If you keep it on, two things will happen:

When you press the controller’s PS button, the PlayStation and the monitor will turn on as long as the HDMI cable connects these two devices.

When you turn on the TV and go to the PlayStation’s HDMI input, the console will turn on automatically.

Now that you know, it’s up to you to leave the feature on or off.

Rest Mode is a standby mode that saves power. However, it can download games when you prompt the action from the PlayStation app. Like so, the PlayStation turns on by itself. So, you can turn the feature off altogether.

On PS4

Go to Settings

Select Power Saving Settings

Select Set Features Available in Rest Mode.

Uncheck “Enable Turning On of PS4 from Network.” Also, uncheck “Stay Connected to the Internet.” As you see, even Spotify could turn on the console if it’s linked to the PS4.

On PS5

Go to Settings.

Select System.

Select Power Saving on the left side menu.

Select Features Available in Rest Mode on the right side.

Disable “Stay Connected to the Internet” and “Turning On PS5 from Network.”

A power cycle is a soft reset that helps erase bugs and random errors. We’re using it to make the update process easier. If the console needs an update (but your internet is unreliable), checking for manual updates is a good idea.

An update can heal a lot of compatibility issues. For example, your console may have problems with a new smart TV.

Let’s start with the power cycle:

Turn off the console by pressing and holding the power button.

Unplug all of its cables for one minute.

Plug the cables back.

Turn the console back up.

Now, let’s update the consoles via the interface:

On PS4

Go to Settings.

Select System Software Update.

If there’s an update available, select it. It will download in the background.

On PS5

Select Settings.

Goto System.

Select System Software on the left side menu.

Select System Software Update and Settings on the right-side menu.

Select Update System Software if you see an available update.

Toggle on the two options on the menu to ensure the PS5 updates automatically. These options are: “Download Update Files Automatically” and “Install Update Files Automatically.”

The last solution we’re listing is resetting the console. It will erase any system and software bug affecting its normal functions.

On PS4

Go to Settings.

Go to Initialization. It’s the option at the bottom.

Select Initialize PS4.

You can choose to reset and keep your data or delete everything.

On PS5

Select Settings.

Select System Software on the left side.

Select Reset Options on the right side.

Select Reset your console. Then, select to keep or erase your data and confirm.

If you came all this way, and the troubleshooting didn’t work, it probably means the console’s hardware is malfunctioning. Most likely, you’d have to take the console for repairs.

Still, let’s review what could be failing and whether you can fix it at home.

The PlayStation controller is dirty. Often, you can play as you eat and drink, and some of it may have spilled into the controller. You can use a microfibre cloth, plus a bit of Isopropyl alcohol, to clean it deeply.

The disk drive on the PS4 may be spinning out of control. There’s a screw that holds it in place, and you can find it to screw it back. It’s behind a plastic tray, and you need a Phillips #0 cross-head screwdriver for the job.

On the PS5, though, the storage is an internal SSD. If it fails, you may see this error as well.

The console may be overheating because of dust and rust accumulation. Cleaning the console is lengthy, but you can check our separate PS5 guides for the tasks. And if you don’t feel confident enough to clean it yourself, take it for repairs -you’d know this is the issue if the console feels hot on touch or because the console gets too loud when you play.

Other pieces that may fail include the CMOS chip, the CPU, the optical sensor, and others.

Wallpaper On Second Monitor Turns Black After Logging In

A PC with two monitors is pretty helpful and looks fantastic. However, when you use two monitors, multiple issues arise. For instance, if you use two different-sized monitors, there will be issues with resolution, graphics, and more. But sometimes, you may also face issues, like the wallpaper on the second monitor turning black after logging in. If you face a similar issue, you will find some quick methods to troubleshoot the problem below.

Wallpaper on second monitor turns black after logging in

Wallpaper turning black on the second monitor is a rare issue and can occur primarily because of some Windows glitch. A simple restart would often fix the issue for you. However, if you keep getting the same error, then you can try the below fixes:

Change wallpaper & check if It happens again

Change Windows Theme

Configure the Display Settings via the Ease of Access

Reinstall Monitor driver

Turn off High Contrast setting

Update Display driver

Enable Desktop background setting in power options

You may need admin permission for some of the issues.

1] Change wallpaper & check if It happens again

The main culprit could be the wallpaper you are using. If you are using your picture as the wallpaper, there is a good chance that Windows is having trouble reading it or applying it on the secondary monitor.

So you can try changing the wallpaper and see if it happens again. To do so, follow the below steps:

Select any of the images from Recent images and then see if you are still getting the same error.

2] Change Windows Theme

There is a good chance that the error occurs because of a Windows glitch preventing your PC from applying the same theme across both monitors. Try changing the Windows theme from the personalization setting to fix this and see if it works for you.

Go to Personalization.

Over here, you will see different themes under Select a theme to apply.

Then see if it works for you.

If it does, try switching to the original theme, and if you see a black screen, reboot your computer, and the issue should be fixed.

3] Configure the Display Settings via the Ease of Access

If changing the wallpaper doesn’t fix your issue, you can try configuring display settings via the Ease Of Access Center. It is an in-built utility that comes with Windows and can be used to optimize the visual display. To access the option, follow these:

Open Windows Settings (Win + I)

Navigate to Accessibility

Over here, you will find different settings. Such as contrast theme settings, turning off animations, removing background images, etc.

Play around with these settings and see if it fixes your issue. For example, you can turn off unnecessary animations, remove background images, and see if it works.

4] Reinstall the monitor driver

The issue could also happen because of an outdated or faulty display or monitor driver. So you can try reinstalling the Monitor driver and then check if you are still getting the same wallpaper on the second monitor that turns black after logging in error.

To reinstall the monitor driver, follow these steps:

Press Windows Key + X to launch the Start button menu.

Go to Device Manager and expand Display adapters.

Once the driver is uninstalled, the next step is downloading the display driver. You must go to your computer’s manufacturer’s website and download the suitable monitor driver. If you are using a laptop, you must go to your laptop’s manufacturer’s website and search for it using its model or serial number. And then download the display driver. Using a custom PC, you must go to your motherboard’s manufacturer’s website.

5] Turn off High Contrast setting

The high contrast mode is an accessibility setting that changes the look of Windows applications by replacing the color of different elements like backgrounds, buttons, text, and more. It can help increase readability and other visual issues.

So in case Windows is finding it hard to read your wallpaper’s colors, it turns black. Then you might want to turn off the high contrast setting and see if it fixes the issue.

Also, Windows makes it super easy to enable or disable high contrast mode using a keyboard shortcut. Press ALT + Left SHIFT + PRINT SCREEN buttons simultaneously to enable/disable high contrast mode in Windows. You will get a prompt to enable or skip if you don’t.

Note: The same can also be enabled/disabled by going to the Accessibility as mentioned above.

6] Update Display driver

Update the Display driver and see if that helps.

6] Enable Desktop background setting in power options

If you use a laptop paired with a secondary monitor, your laptop’s battery setting could be the culprit. To fix the issue, you can disable the background setting in power options by following the below options:

Expand Desktop background settings.

Conclusion

In most cases, the wallpaper on the second monitor turns black after logging in error is related to theme personalization. I recommend you try changing your Windows theme to see if it works. You can also upgrade your Windows and see if Microsoft has provided any fix for the glitch.

Why does my second monitor keep going black when I open Netflix?

Incompatible HDMI, outdated version of Netflix, screen recording software, and graphics driver issues can be some of the prominent issues why Netflix keeps doing black on the second monitor. You may also want to check if the Netflix app is working on the first, and if that is the case, launch the app on the second monitor instead of the first. You may have to change the primary display to the second monitor and check.

How do I make my dual screen wallpaper work?

Motorola Droid Razr: What We’Ll See Tomorrow

Motorola DROID RAZR: what we’ll see tomorrow

Earlier today we were given a few more clues as to what we’ll be seeing at the big Motorola news conference tomorrow in New York City – a device by the name of DROID RAZR now seems rather likely, a new crowned king of Verizon LTE devices, soon to be in our hands. But what have we gathered as far as specifications go? How big is the display, what’s going on with the camera, and what sort of processor is inside? And most importantly, will the full package equal a device that’s going to entice those who also have had the choice of picking up a dual-core smartphone from Motorola since early this year with the original Atrix, the USA’s first dual-core smartphone?

As you may be aware, there’s also an Atrix 2 out there right now, complete with a lovely smooth overhaul and the newest version of Motorola’s vision for Android for a user interface. The Motorola DROID BIONIC was supposed to be the king of all machines – and if you’ve got all the Motorola machines it connects with, it certainly is. Now there’s a new device popping out, popping out tomorrow no less, that MUST be the next step in this evolution for Motorola. It’ll have Verizon 4G LTE, we can be pretty sure of that, but how will it out-do the BIONIC?

This new device which we’ll continue calling the Motorola DROID RAZR is tipped to have a 4.3-inch display with qHD resolution similar to what we’ve seen on the BIONIC and the Droid X2. This device is said to have LTE on Verizon and will be the thinnest LTE device on the market when it’s released. The processor inside is yet unknown, but we’ll go ahead and guess that it’s the same dual-core 1.0GHz OMAP4 processor found in the BIONIC upgraded to 1.2GHz — perhaps though it’ll be the 1.5GHz Qualcomm dual-core chip we’ve seen in the HTC Jetstream?

Another rumor has the device using 1GB of RAM and a 960×540 pixel resolution Super AMOLED display. The camera on the back appears very likely to be the same 8-megapixel camera that the DROID BIONIC has, also capable of 1080p resolution video.

Then here’s where it gets real exciting: the front of the device is said to be fully Gorilla Glass, while the rest of the chassis is said to be Kevlar with a splashproof coating. No more poolside mishaps for you! Docks will be offered right out of the box, similar to what we’ve seen with the BIONIC and the PHOTON, and the device has been called three things: DROID RAZR, Motorola Spyder, and DROID HD. We’re guessing for the first option.

So JOIN us tomorrow, again at NOON EST, right here on SlashGear. Then stick around (or go somewhere and have a snack) and find us LIVE in HONG KONG at 10PM EST when Samsung and Google will be revealing a device running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Don’t miss anything!

How To Set Up Emergency Medical Id On Iphone And Apple Watch

Everyone should know how to set up the emergency Medical ID on iPhone as it can potentially save your life. This feature stores essential health information about you that first responders and others can use during emergencies such as an accident.

It includes your emergency contacts and can be viewed even when your phone is locked. Further, it can be linked to your Apple Watch too. Here’s everything you need to know to create and share your Medical ID on your iPhone and Apple Watch. Let’s start with the basics.

What is Medical ID on iPhone?

Your Medical ID on the iPhone or Apple Watch stores medical details about you that can be useful in emergencies. The details include:

Name, date of birth, and Apple ID photo

Medical conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, or asthma

Medications you are currently on

Medical notes such as if you have a pacemaker in your heart

Allergies and reactions

How to create an emergency Medical ID on iPhone

Open the Health app and stay on the Summary tab.

If you have previously set up a Medical ID and want to update it, tap Edit in the upper-right corner.

Enter the relevant information like your date of birth, allergies, blood type, etc.

To make your Medical ID available from your iPhone Lock screen, toggle on Show When Locked. This can enable others to see it during an emergency.

Note: If you’re in the United States, you can also turn on Share During Emergency Call. This will share your Medical ID with emergency responders through Emergency SOS.

How to set up Medical ID on an Apple Watch

After setting up your Medical ID on your iPhone, it’s essential to add it to your Apple Watch if you use one. Many first responders are trained to look for medical bracelets when attending to patients in an emergency.

This means your Apple Watch is more likely to be checked in an emergency than your iPhone. So, follow these steps to add your Medical ID to Apple Watch.

Open the Watch app on your iPhone

Go to My Watch → Health → Medical ID.

Make sure all the details are accurate and enable the option to Show When Locked.

Along with your Medical ID, it’s vital to set up emergency contacts on your iPhone. They will be notified when using the Emergency SOS on your iPhone or Apple Watch. Here’s how to add or edit your emergency contacts:

Open iPhone’s Health app and go to the Summary tab.

Tap your profile photo at the top-right and select Medical ID.

Tap Add Emergency Contact.

To delete an emergency contact, tap the red minus symbol.

You can access medical ID from the lock screen of an iPhone or Apple Watch, provided that the Show When Locked feature was enabled when setting it up. Let’s see how to view it.

How to view someone’s Medical ID

On iPhone

When iPhone is locked:

At the bottom left, tap Emergency → Medical ID.

If the iPhone is unlocked:

Open the Health app → tap the profile picture → tap Medical ID.

If you need to call emergency services, hold down the Side button with either Volume button, then slide across on the Emergency SOS option. Or repeatedly press the Side button or the Sleep/Wake button five times.

This activates Emergency SOS and will call the emergency services in your country.

When you complete the call, the iPhone will send a message to emergency contacts and show the Medical ID.

On Apple Watch

Long-press the Side button, then slide over the Medical ID option.

To call emergency services, long-press the Side button, and slide across the Emergency SOS option.

This will make a call to the emergency services in your country. If your Apple Watch does not have a cellular plan, it must be close to a paired iPhone for this function to work.

After the emergency call, the Apple Watch will alert each emergency contact and displays the Medical ID.
