Suggested March 2024 How To Check Ram Health On Windows

RAM often comes after software issues and hard drive fragmentation in terms of what we blame when there’s problems. But how do you check whether your PC has bad RAM? There are a couple of ways to perform a memory test, though, as is often the case, you’re likely to glean more info from third-party software than Windows’s handy but relatively simple in-house methods. We show you in this guide how to check your RAM health in Windows.

Symptoms of RAM Problems

Before doing any of this, you want to know that you’re barking up the right tree, so here are some telltale signs that your RAM might be having issues:

PC beeps one or more times as it’s starting

PC slows down the longer you keep it on

PC keeps crashing

Problems accessing files

PC showing less RAM in System Information than you have added

How to Check RAM with Windows Memory Diagnostic

Press F1, then choose whether you want to run the Basic, Standard or Extended tests, which change how long it takes as well as the effectiveness of the tests. Windows will reboot automatically when you’re done, and you’ll receive a notification of whether errors were found when you re-enter Windows.

HCI MemTest

HCI MemTest is a rigorous – yet simple – RAM testing tool that you can leave running for several hours, a day, even several days. If your RAM is healthy, then it shouldn’t detect any errors – no matter how long you leave it running.

It’s very simple to use. Just download it, extract it, then open it. Your only option is to manually set how much RAM you want to test. You should set this between 2GB and 3.5GB, as it’s unlikely that your PC will be using more RAM than that when idling.

This memory testing tool can put a bit of strain on your CPU and RAM, so you’ll want to have all programs on your PC closed, make sure it’s well ventilated, then leave it to perform the RAM test for a few hours.

HCI MemTest is very direct in how it presents information. If you get a message saying “Memory error detected,” then you know you have a problem and will need to look into your BIOS or even physically check your RAM sticks to make sure they’re plugged in properly.

The longer you run HCI MemTest, the more accurate it will be. With that said, if your RAM is in bad health, then within an hour it may detect dozens of errors. Repeat the test to check your RAM health again, but if this happens, then it may be time to replace your RAM (or stop overclocking it!) on your Windows machine.

MemTest86

If the memory diagnostic doesn’t bring up any errors, but you’re still convinced that RAM might be an issue, then you may well be right, and it’s worth trying this more detailed tool to find out. This long-lived tool was once used mainly for PCs with 32-bit processors (hence the ’86’ in the name), but these days it’s just as useful testing memory on more recent 64-bit machines.

Download MemTest86, selecting the “Image for creating bootable USB Drive” option (or CD if you want to be old-school about it).

Select the USB drive to be processed in Step 1 of the tool, then the current location of the “memtest86-usb” file in Step 3. (It’ll be where you extracted it earlier.)

Once in MemTest, you can press anything, and it’ll automatically run a detailed memory test after about ten seconds. This may take a while, but by the end, you’ll know whether there are errors in your memory.

Physically Checking the RAM

So how do you then solve these errors that were turned up with your check of the RAM health on your Windows machine? Replacing the RAM is obviously the extreme option, but it’s also worth checking to see that it’s properly slotted into your PC.

Try removing the RAM sticks from your PC one by one and running the MemTest each time to see if the errors disappear. That way you can work out which stick (or which slot) was causing the problems.

If you find that errors pop up each time you have a certain stick in, it’s a problem with that stick. If there are problems each time there’s a RAM stick in a certain slot, then that slot could be the issue, at which point you could be looking at a motherboard replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions 1. What is RAM?

RAM stands for Random-Access Memory. It is used to store short-term information on your PC.

2. How do I keep my RAM healthy?

As with many components in your PC, the best way to keep your RAM healthy is to keep it cool. It doesn’t get as hot as your CPU or GPU, but it still generates its own heat, and you want to make sure you have good air circulation going through your case to cool it down. Or you could even look into a dedicated RAM cooler.

3. Is Overclocking RAM Safe?

If you’re thinking of overclocking your RAM, then it’s worth knowing that the gains of this are typically smaller than overclocking your CPU or GPU, and it can shorten the life of your RAM. Instead, if you have an XMP profile in your BIOS, you should enable that.

With your RAM health in good standing after a check of your Windows machine, why not benchmark your CPU to make sure it’s running as it should or check the health of your hard drive.

How To Check The Battery Health Of Windows Laptop

Due to the smaller size, lighter weight and the fact that every laptop comes with a battery pack, it becomes an easier choice for many people to choose laptops over desktops. Some laptops come with removable batteries while others come with inbuilt batteries. As long as your PC comes with a battery, the capacity of the battery degrades with time and you may have to change the battery along the line.

Signs of Low Laptop Battery Health

There are times that you may see signs that your battery needs to be changed. Other times, the signs may look a bit confusing. For example, if you buy a new laptop and the battery is able to last for about 8 hours, after a year or two it may reduce to about 5 hours. That should tell you that your battery capacity is down. In a more confusing scenario, your PC may begin to misbehave. For example, it could go off for no reason or run very slow when on battery power. Such occurrence may get you confused.

You may think your PC has a motherboard issue and you may be forced to take it to the repair shop. This usually happens to PCs that come with inbuilt batteries.

In other cases, the laptop refuses to charge no matter how long you keep it on charge. You may see a sign that it’s charging but it never does. Some owners even blame such issues on the chargers and spend money buying new chargers.

Your battery health is the first thing to check if you see signs of misbehavior in your Windows laptop. If the battery health is too down, it can cause a lot of problems to your laptop.

For some reasons beyond explanation, Microsoft has made it quite difficult for users to check their battery health. So getting to know the health status of your Windows laptop is quite hectic. Worry no more as this article will make things a lot easier for you.

Download Battery Info View from this link. (When you open the link, scroll down until you see the name BatteryInfoView. Just like the image below.

After downloading, locate the downloaded file and extract it into a new folder you have created in any preferred location on your PC. (You may have to create a new folder on your desktop. This will make it easier for you to locate your file). You can also run it directly from the unzipping software if you don’t want to create a new folder. I recommend using WinRAR in this case.

When the extraction is done, you should find a file called chúng tôi It should look exactly like what is in the image below.

That is all you need to do in order to know the battery health of your laptop. You can save the file and check ones in a while. So, when your laptop begins to misbehave, it is best to first check your battery health. If the battery health is less than 70%, you may have to change it. However, if you check and it is less than 70% but your laptop still works fine, then you can keep using it for a while.

How To Check Used Space On Android From A Windows Pc Via Mtp

Android storage is not like it used to be. Nowadays, expandable memory slots are no longer trendy and you’re stuck with the storage capacity that your phone has to offer. This makes life difficult for the average Android user who isn’t sold on cloud services yet.

In such situations, knowing which apps and files are using up how much space on your device is vital. Though the in-built file explorer can show the size of a file, it doesn’t give a breakdown of your storage usage on the whole.

Fortunately, there are disk management tools like TreeSize that can come in handy. With nothing more than your USB cable, you can find out the complete breakup of used space on your Android device. In this guide, we provide step-by-step instructions on how to use TreeSize to find your Android phone’s storage usage via MTP. FYI, you can also use TreeSize to wirelessly find used storage space on an Android.

Use TreeSize to find Android storage usage via MTP (using cable)

TreeSize is the disk management tool that we’ll be using for this process. It has both a free version as well as a paid version. The latter can also be used on a 30-day trial period for you to check out its features. But for our intents and purposes, even TreeSize Free is good enough.

Here’s everything you need to do to find storage space usage on your Android device using your Windows PC.

Step 1. Install TreeSize

First up, follow the link below to download TreeSize Free.

Once downloaded, run the setup file.

And follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Step 2. Connect Android to PC with USB

Next, connect your Android device and your PC via a USB cable. Once connected, bring down the notifications bar and select “Charging this device via USB”.

When it expands, tap on it again to see more options.

Here, select File transfer.

This will cause your internal storage to be detected by Windows for file transfer and viewing storage usage.

Step 3. Scan internal storage with TreeSize

Run TreeSize Free on your computer.

Your internal storage files will now be scanned and displayed in a list based on allocated space.

Step 4. View space used on Android

All folders and subfolders will reflect the share (or percent) of their space usage relative to their parent folder. So, for instance, if we expand the “Download” folder we’ll see that within it, the “Telegram” folder takes up about 2.1% of the storage space used up by the “Download” folder, which takes up 17.2% of the total used space.

Then select Show Treemap Chart.

On the right, the chart will give you an overhead view of the size of different folders (reflected by the size of the folder boxes) as well as how deep they are within the storage itself (subfolder “Levels”).

But this is only viewing the “space use” by folders. If you want to check how different apps are using up your Android phone’s storage, you will have to expand the Android folder specifically (that holds the apps) in the left pane.

And then select data.

And also select Show chart in 3D.

The 3D rendition will give a better clue as to how deep the files are as well as the share of their storage usage.

With this layout, you’ll be able to find out which apps are the biggest space hoarders. In our case, it is Spotify (64.6%) and YouTube (17.3%) of the total app space usage.

Feel free to use other “View” and sorting options to find out the storage usage in the way that seems the most appropriate to you.

FAQs

In this section, we shed some light on a few commonly asked queries about accessing the storage space of an Android phone using a Windows PC.

How can I access my Android phone storage from PC?

The easiest way to access your Android phone storage is to connect it to your Windows PC via USB and use File Explorer to view your phone storage. However, if you want a detailed breakdown of your storage space usage, the TreeSize app can come in handy. Refer to the guide above to know how.

How do I see how much space an app takes up on Windows?

The TreeSize Free app is a great tool to find out how much space an app takes up. With your Android device connected to Windows via MTP, scan the internal storage using TreeSize Free and check out the “data” subfolder inside the “Android” folder. Here, you will be able to see the storage space that an app takes up.

How can I access my mobile storage from PC wirelessly?

To wirelessly access mobile storage from a PC, you will have to use a WebDAV server app for Android, turn it on, and then enter the IP address in TreeSize.

We hope you were able to find out about Android storage usage with the TreeSize app for your folders and apps. Though there is a TreeSize paid app as well that has additional features, if you’re looking to connect your phone and view storage usage via MTP, the TreeSize Free app does just fine. Until next time, stay safe!

How To Check If Someone Blocked You On Instagram & Facebook

When you stop seeing posts from your friend on social media, it can mean one of two things: they’re busy and simply don’t have time to post anything, or they’ve blocked you for some reason.

Neither Instagram nor Facebook will let you know when someone blocks you. There are third-party apps that will promise to solve that problem for you, but that rarely works. Truth is, finding out if someone blocked you on Instagram or Facebook takes some detective work. Here’s how to tell if someone blocked you and what you can do about it.

Table of Contents

How to Check If Someone Blocked You on Instagram

On Instagram, you can try a couple of different techniques to find out whether someone blocked you. To be absolutely sure the user has blocked you and hasn’t just deleted Instagram, try the following methods before deciding to block them back.

Use Instagram Search

When you suspect that someone’s blocked you on Instagram, the first thing to do is to try and search for their account on the app. If you can find the user on Instagram, that means they didn’t block you. To find someone using Instagram Search, follow the steps below.

Open the Instagram app.

Select Search from the menu to go to the Explore page.

Select the Search bar and type the user’s Instagram handle into it.

If you can’t find the user you’re looking for, it could mean that they’ve blocked you on Instagram. However, it could also mean that they’ve changed their Instagram handle.

Use Comments or DMs to Locate the User’s Profile

Alternatively, open your DMs and find an old chat with that person and use that to go to their page. If instead of the user’s page you get a User not found message, it’s likely that user has blocked you on Instagram.

You can be sure they haven’t blocked you if you open their profile and can see their usual account information. The Account is Private message on the user’s page, means they’ve switched their public Instagram account to private and chose to remove you as a follower. That’s still not the same as blocking you, and you can request to follow them again.

Use Instagram Web

You can use Instagram Web to confirm your fears. In your browser, use the following link to locate the user’s Instagram page:

Where username is the person’s Instagram handle. If you get Sorry, this page isn’t available message from Instagram, that means the person you’re looking for either blocked you or deleted their Instagram account.

Of course, this method only works if you remember the person’s Instagram handle correctly.

Ask a Friend to Help You Search

One last thing you can do to be absolutely sure is ask someone else to search for the user in question on Instagram. If your friend manages to find that person’s profile and see their information and posts, then that user has clearly blocked you.

You can do this yourself if you have multiple Instagram accounts. This way you don’t risk anyone else finding out that someone blocked you.

How to Tell if Someone Blocked You on Facebook

People usually start suspecting that someone blocked them on Facebook when they stop seeing that person’s posts in their Facebook feed. If that’s your story, don’t jump into any conclusions yet. It might be the fault of Facebook’s algorithm that’s responsible for showing you content from one account over the other.

To find out for sure whether someone blocked you on Facebook, try one of the following techniques instead.

Use Your Friends List

The easiest way to check if you’ve been blocked on Facebook is by using your Facebook friends list. When someone blocks you, they disappear from your Facebook friends list. Here’s how you can check it.

Open Facebook app on your computer or your smartphone.

Go to your Facebook profile.

Select Friends to access your friends list.

Type the name of the friend that you suspect has blocked you into the Search bar or try finding them manually by scrolling through your friends list.

If your friend doesn’t appear on your friends list, they’ve either blocked or unfriended you.

Use Facebook Search

You can use Facebook search to find out whether someone unfriended or blocked you. To search for someone on Facebook, open the main Facebook page and find the search bar in the upper-left corner of the screen. Then type your friend’s name or email into the search bar. This method will only work if you know for sure the correct username or email address that the person’s using on Facebook.

If you don’t manage to locate a page with your friend’s profile photo and recent posts, it’s likely that they’ve blocked you on Facebook.

How to Check If Someone Blocked You on Messenger

Do you prefer using Messenger over Facebook? It’s even easier to tell when someone blocked you on Messenger. All you need to do is to try sending them a direct message by following the steps below.

Open the Messenger app.

Select New Message in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Under To: type the name of the person that you suspect blocked you.

If you see your friend’s name and profile picture appear on the list, then they haven’t blocked you. If they don’t show up on the list and you can’t seem to send them a message, that means they’ve blocked you on Facebook.

What Next When Someone Blocks You on Instagram & Facebook

Finding out that someone blocked you on social media can be frustrating, especially if you don’t know the reason. If that’s your situation, the best course of action is try and find out what happened and what made the other person block you in the first place.

If someone blocked you and it bothers you more than you’d like it to, you can always block them back and forget about it.

How To Check Server Powershell Uptime?

Introduction to PowerShell Uptime

Uptime is a metric that denotes and it measures the successful operational duration of a computer network or hardware. IT industry terms the duration of the operational system as uptime. In PowerShell, the cmdlet gives the elapsed time of the recent boot of the operating system and this function is introduced in PowerShell 6.0. To fetch the uptime on Linux, Windows, and macOS, the user can go for Get – uptime cmdlet in PowerShell. The –since the command is used to fetch the recent time and date of the operating system is booted.

What is PowerShell Uptime?

PowerShell is used for configuration management and task automation using a command line function or scripting. PowerShell is executed on macOS, Linux, and Windows. Uptime command executes the information about how the system is running together successfully with the current time, number of running sessions, number of users and sessions, system average load for the past one minute, five minutes, and fifteen minutes.

How to Use PowerShell Uptime?

Hardware components like cables and switch keyboards are connected to form a server. It is off-site and works as intermediate transit and thus forms the crucial part of the operation. So the company’s infrastructure team consists of dedicated weekly or daily tasks to monitor the performance of the system via different metrics. Uptime is one of the mandatory metrics to measure the system performance, and it measures the amount of time that the system is ON without any shutdown or restart. The user doesn’t want the system to fail in the middle of the tough load and so he checks the uptime of the system. An Infrastructure team can fix the system and application health and manage it to prevent unexpected downtime. The diagnosis should be minimal so the user can fix the issue easily to ensure the company’s efficient working as time is money, and the business doesn’t want to face any unexpected shortage.

To ensure this Microsoft PowerShell is launched, keep an eye on uptime. A high uptime rate increases the system’s availability and reliability, whereas downtime is disturbing in terms of reputation and cost.

How to Check Server PowerShell Uptime?

Capacity management should be planned, and there should be considerable resources to manage the needs of the company. Based on the uptime, there should be a periodic check on machines whether it needs a restart or replacement. Hence uptime is a tedious measure in the business.

The user has to understand the terms of the common information model and windows management instrumentation. WMI is composed of multiple extensions and offers details about the operating system. Whereas the common information model provides management details like properties of the device and application. It also includes the business tools that enable IT to know about the infra and they can find it without any delay. The admin can access the common information model like uptime and other properties via WMI.

PowerShell Uptime Server 4 Ways

The PowerShell uptime can be found and fixed in four ways, and they are given below:

1. Windows Management Instrumentation Querying

The user can find the uptime of the windows server by WMI queries. The extension of WMI is used to calculate uptime in a class known as Wi32_operating system, and it is built with multiple properties. The Lastbootuptime command explains when the system has been rebooted recently. It also requires the CIM data, and it should be fixed.

Code:

Output:

The output will be in the date and time format that is used to compute the uptime.

2. Windows Event Log

The admin can access this data in PowerShell via Get –win event command or get –eventlog command. It gives the details of event tracing logs and event logs placed on remote and local computers. Rather than viewing all the complete log files, the user can search the metrics and view them using individual ids. The code in PowerShell is used to get the last restart date and time.

Code:

Output:

The important parameters in Get-winevent are:

computername: Gives the name of the computer where the system log is stored.

Credential: User account which has the permission to perform this action.

Filterhashtable: Takes the queries in hashtable format.

filterXML: Gives the structured XML query.

force: Gives the debug log if the name of the computer has wildcard characters.

3. Using the Get-uptime Command

The admin can use Get-uptime to fetch elapsed time of the last reboot.

Get –uptime and [-since]

Output:

4. Custom Scripts

The user can develop their scripts in groups develop. The command below gives the script executed by a computer and parses the event log in the computer to find the last restart time. Then it computes the total time the server is running. It also gives the history of the computer’s start and stops time.

Code:

-/ get –serveruptimereport .ps1 –the name of the computer comp 1

Output:

Conclusion

Hence PowerShell helps the business to give uninterrupted services to the users. Classifying the cause of downtime can help in capacity planning, budgeting, better infrastructure management, and decision making.
