Suggested March 2024 How To Delete Files From Google Drive On Iphone

Google Drive is a widely used cloud storage solution for anyone with a Google account. As the case is with any kind of storage, you can only store as much as the storage capacity that’s assigned to you. Unless you subscribe to Google One, Google Drive only lets you save up to 15 GB of data at once on your account which wouldn’t take too long to fill up if you constantly use Google Drive or any one of Google’s other services.

The easiest way to clear some space off of your Google Drive account is to delete the files that you no longer need. In this post, we’ll help you delete files from Google Drive on an iPhone.

How to delete files from Google Drive on iPhone

You can delete files, open files, and multiple files using the Google Drive app. Follow either of the sections below depending on your preference.

Method 1: Delete files from the Google Drive app

You can delete files that you have stored on Google Drive directly through its app on iOS. You can use the steps below to delete folders as well since the mechanism involved is the same. To do that, open the Google Drive app on your iPhone and locate the file or folder you want to delete. Once located, tap on the 3-dots icon on the right-hand side of the file you want to remove.

In the menu that appears, scroll down and select Remove.

In the prompt, select Move to Bin.

Method 2: Delete an open file in the Google Drive app

You can also delete files after you open them on Drive. To do so, tap on the 3-dots button at the top right corner when they’re open.

In the menu, select Remove.

Now, tap on Move to Bin in the prompt that appears.

Method 3: Delete multiple files in the Google Drive app

To remove multiple files and folders from Google Drive, tap and hold on any of the files you want to remove until it’s highlighted.

Now, select more files you want to delete and then tap on the 3-dots icon at the top right corner.

In the overflow menu, select Remove.

In the next prompt, select Move to Bin.

When you remove a file, you should see the “File moved to bin” banner appear at the bottom.

What happens when you remove a file from Google Drive?

When you remove a file from Google Drive, Google doesn’t delete the file permanently. The removed file is sent to the bin and stored there for the next 30 days before it gets automatically deleted. Google gives you this 30-day time window to help you recover these files in case you need them shortly and to avoid any costly mistakes.

You can either keep the removed files in the bin and wait for Google to delete them or remove them permanently yourself before the 30-day window. Once permanently removed, you will no longer be able to recover these files. In exception scenarios, Google may still be able to help you recover files that you deleted permanently. For that, you may need to have a Google One account using which you can reach out to Google Support executives via phone, text, or email, and request them to recover the file you need.

If you’ve shared the file that you have sent to the bin, others can still view them as long as the file isn’t permanently deleted. In case the file you removed isn’t your own, removing it from your Google Drive account won’t prevent others from accessing it.

How to delete a file forever from Google Drive

As we have explained above, removing a file from Google Drive doesn’t delete it forever, not for a while at least. To delete it permanently, you need to first send it to your Google Drive Bin by removing it. Once sent to the bin, you can permanently delete these files.

Method 1: Delete files from the Bin forever

Open the Google Drive app and tap on the Hamburger menu icon at the top left corner.

In the sidebar that appears, select Bin.

If you wish to delete only the file that you previously removed, tap on the 3-dots icon on the right-hand side.

Now, select Delete forever to remove the file permanently from Google Drive.

In the next prompt, tap on Delete forever.

Method 2: Delete open files forever

You can also permanently delete a file by opening it from the Bin folder and then tapping on the 3-dots icon at the top right corner.

In the overflow menu, select Delete forever.

Next, tap on Delete forever inside the prompt again to confirm the deletion.

Method 3: Delete multiple files forever

You cannot delete multiple files at once from the Bin by selecting them. However, you can delete all the files that are present inside the Bin folder on Google Drive, and tap on the 3-dots icon at the top right corner of the Bin screen.

Next, select Empty bin.

In the next prompt, tap on Delete forever.

All the files inside the bin folder will be deleted forever and you won’t be able to recover them in the future.

How to recover files that you sent to the bin

Google lets you recover files you have removed from Google Drive as long as you haven’t gone beyond the 30-day window. If you deleted a file from Drive and it has been over 30 days since then, you won’t be able to recover it from Drive on your own. You can only recover the files that you removed recently and sent to the bin within 30 days of their deletion.

Method 1: Recover a file from the Google Drive Bin

To recover files from the Google Drive bin, open the Google Drive app and tap on the Hamburger menu icon at the top left corner.

In the sidebar that appears, select Bin.

To restore a file from this folder, tap on the 3-dots icon on the right-hand side of the file you want to recover.

In the overflow menu, select Restore.

Method 2: Recover an open file from the Google Drive Bin

You can also recover a file from the Bin by opening it from the Bin folder and then tapping on the Restore button (marked with a clock) at the top right corner.

That’s all you need to know about deleting a file from Google Drive on an iPhone.

The Google Drive quota provides an overview of how much GD cloud storage space you’ve used up. However, exceptions can happen, such as Google Drive being full but no files in it.

If that’s so, it’s not usually the case that the Google Drive quota is inaccurate, just that it includes a lot of extra data from other sources.

Although Google Drive is a great cloud storage service, sometimes issues can occur. Several users reported a Google Drive storage full but no files in it.

Why is my Google Drive full but no files?

From actual space issues to sync issues or specific file anomalies, there can be more than one culprit responsible for google drive being full but having no files in it.

Quota can show inaccurate data on occasion and shared drives are also likely to cause havoc, especially if used by other users for storage.

Speaking of quota issues, here are some similar problems reported by users:

Google Drive space not updating – This isn’t a serious issue, and sometimes it might take a few days for the space to update. If the amount of space doesn’t change, try removing files from your Trash and check if that helps.

Google Drive storage full but no files – To fix this issue, you need to remove Google Photos as well as attachments from Gmail. It can also be helpful to clean the Trash directory.

Also, Google Drive showing more used space – If you encounter this problem, check if you have any shared folders. If other users are using them for storage, that will affect your data quota.

Google Drive storage not accurate – Sometimes your Google Drive quota might not be fully accurate. If Google Drive is not showing correct storage, be sure to try some of our solutions.

Google Docs says storage is full but it’s not

Storage is full no edits can be made to this file. Delete files for more space – But, Google Photos storage not updating after deleting

Bought more Google Storage but still says full – Google Drive storage not updating after purchase

Gmail says storage full but it’s not – This can impact all versions of windows, including Win 11 (see The drive Is full but there are no files in Windows 11 error)

Google Drive empty but space used

So if Google Drive says storage is full but it’s not, this is how to fix it.

How do I fix Google storage full? 1. Empty Google Drive Trash

Firstly, note that deleted Google Drive files go to a Trash folder similar to Recycle Bin. Thus, they’re not really erased and still hog cloud storage space. So you should empty the Trash folder as follows:

It’s also worth mentioning that you can try to locate and remove duplicate files from Google Drive in order to free up some space.

2. Try a different file storage platform

There are many options when it comes to storage, and a bit of help from a third-party tool might be just what you need when looking for Google Drive alternatives.

Keeping all of your assets synchronized has never been easier thanks to Sync, the tool that allows you to store, share, and access all of your files from any location.

The best part is that you get up to 5 GB to store all those important files in the cloud absolutely free of charge.

But Sync delivers more than storage, it also protects your data with end-to-end encryption, making sure your confidential documents are completely safeguarded from unauthorized access.

Raising the stakes even further, Sync also acts as a powerful backup solution to keep your files synced across all of your devices with no risk of data loss or leakage.

⇒ Get Sync

3. Check Google Drive Application Data

Note that applications connected to Google Drive also use up their storage space. Thus, apps such as Whatsapp might be hogging hundreds of megabytes of your cloud storage. This is how you can remove Google Drive apps.

Many users reported that WhatsApp can also take up your storage space.

According to users, there was a WhatsApp application backup on their Google Drive, but after removing it, they managed to fix the issue with Google Drive quota, so be sure to try that.

4. Search for Orphaned Files

You might have lots of GD files without parent folders. These are orphaned files that can inflate the Google Drive storage quota. This is how you can search for and delete orphan files in Google Drive.

5. Check Google Photos and Gmail Storage

Note that your Google Drive quota also includes Google Photos and Gmail files. So your extra photos and email might also be inflating the GD quota.

6. Check for shared folders

Expert tip:

If you have any shared folders, be sure to contact the person you’re sharing the folder with, and ask them to back up their files.

Once their files are downloaded, you can delete the folder and all its contents. After the shared directories are deleted, the issue with the data quota should be resolved.

7. Remove large files and wait

The easiest way to fix the problem with Google Drive quota is to delete the large files from your Google Drive. However, it’s worth mentioning that it might take some time for the data quota to update.

Usually, this process takes a couple of days, but some users reported that it might take weeks for the quote to update, so you’ll have to be patient.

8. Delete files from Trash folder and sign out of all Gmail accounts

According to users, to fix the problem with quota and Google Drive, first, you need to delete all files from the Trash folder. We already showed you how to do that in one of our previous solutions, so be sure to check it out for detailed instructions.

After doing that, you need to sign out of Gmail on all devices and applications. This can be quite tedious to do manually since you might have multiple devices with several applications that use Gmail.

After doing that, you should be successfully signed out on all accounts. Now log in to Google Drive again and check if the problem still persists.

9. Delete photos from your devices

As you probably know, Google Photos shares the storage space with Google Drive, and if you have a lot of pictures in the Google Photos app, that will reflect on your Google Drive quota.

To fix this problem, remove pictures from Google Photos and check if that solves the issue.

Several users reported that removing the pictures from Google Photos won’t permanently solve your data quota problem. To fix the issue, you need to access Google Photos on all your devices and remove your pictures from there.

Even if you remove pictures from the web version of Google Photos, your other devices might sync the missing pictures again, causing the issue to reappear.

Therefore it’s crucial that you delete pictures from Google Photos on all your devices in order to permanently fix the problem.

Several users reported that this worked for them, so feel free to try it out.

10. Convert your documents

It’s also worth mentioning that you can convert your documents to this format and save some space.

If you have dozens of documents on Google Drive, you can convert them to Google-compatible format in order to free up some space. To do that, you just need to follow these simple steps:

Google Drive will now create a copy of your document. Once the new document is created, you can delete the original document. Before deleting the original, be sure to check if the new document is working properly.

This can be a tedious solution, especially if you have dozens of online documents, but it might help you free up some space.

Now, your Google Drive quota will surely have more free storage space than before. Also, note that any changes you make to Google Drive might need a few days for the Google servers to sync.

How To Delete Duplicate Photos On Iphone In Ios 16

The software update was revealed to cheers at Apple’s reveal at WWDC 2023 in June, with big changes including a hugely customisable lock screen, the ability to edit and unsend text messages and a new on-device dictation system, but there are plenty of smaller features and tweaks that Apple didn’t mention on the day.

It concerns the Photos app, and more specifically, duplicate photos and videos. Whether we’ve saved an image on WhatsApp not realising it has already been added to the Photos app or double-screenshotted a particularly juicy conversation, we’ve all got duplicates in our photo library and they take up valuable space, both on-device and in iCloud.

The best way to deal with duplicates is to find and delete them – and there are plenty of apps on the App Store and Mac that’ll help in this regard. However, with iOS 16, you don’t need any additional app or tech – just head to the Photos app.

If you’re running the iOS 16 beta ahead of launch and want to keep your photo library in check, here’s how to find and merge duplicate videos on iPhone in iOS 16.

How to find duplicate photos and videos in iOS 16

At a glance

Time to complete:

2 minutes

Tools required: An iPhone running iOS 16

1.

Make sure you’re running the iOS 16 beta

Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry

The first step, if we’ve not made it obvious until this point, is to make sure you’re running the iOS 16 beta.

You can sign up via the Apple public beta website, and we’ve got a step-by-step guide on how to install the iOS 16 beta if you’re unsure.

2.

Open the Photos app

Lewis Painter / Foundry

Once you’re running the latest iOS 16 beta, open the Photos app on your iPhone and head to the Album tab.

3.

Find the new Duplicates utility

Lewis Painter / Foundry

Scroll past your albums, photos and people and media types until you get to the Utilities menu at the bottom of the list.

Within the list of imported, hidden and recently deleted media (the latter of which are now Face ID-protected), you’ll find a new option – Duplicates.

Simply tap the Duplicates icon to access the new duplicates utility.

4.

Select the duplicate photos you’d like to delete/merge

Lewis Painter / Foundry

You’ll now see a list of all the duplicate photos and videos stored on your iPhone and in iCloud.

Rather than simply deleting one and keeping the other, Apple has opted to merge the two, combining the metadata from both so nothing is lost.

This means you’ll keep necessary metadata like the date taken, location, the phone used and more – a feature not offered by most third-party alternatives.

You can merge duplicates one-by-one by tapping the Merge button, but we’d recommend batch merging. You can do this by tapping the Select icon in the top-right and tapping Select All.

5.

Merge your duplicates

Lewis Painter / Foundry

Once you’ve selected the photos and videos you’d like to merge, tap the Merge button at the bottom of the screen and tap Merge on the pop-up to confirm.

That’s it! Your iPhone will then merge all your duplicate photos and videos, freeing up some much-needed space on your iPhone and iCloud.

How To Delete Videos From Watch Later On Youtube Mobile App?

Sometimes viewers are not able to watch “View Later” videos or don’t want to hold them anymore, so there is always a way to delete them from the folder. for example, I have over 1500 unwatched videos in my Watch Later section. This makes a list too long and it is almost impossible to find a video from that. What if when sometimes I need to organize that list and make it concise? What will I have to do to delete videos from YouTube Watch Later list? So, I researched and founded. In this article, I will show you how you can delete videos from YouTube Watch Later. So, let us see how to delete Watch Later videos.

How to delete videos from Watch Later on YouTube App

YouTube gives us an option to delete each video from the Watch Later individually. Clearing the Watch Later will delete both partially and fully watched videos from your YouTube watch later list. And then, empty the entire list, individually.

Remove fully and partially watched the video from YouTube “Watch Later”

Both iPhone and Android smartphone users have options within the YouTube app to remove fully watched and partially watched videos from the watch later folder.

Select Remove watched videos from the options that popped up.

A small pop-up appears for re-confirmation. Select “Remove.” All the watched and partially watched videos will be deleted.

Confirm the warning as was done above and the YouTube Watch Later won’t consist of the videos that are already seen. Upon completing the steps above, any video watched (regardless of was finished or not) gets removed from the folder. Viewers may notice that there are still some videos remaining. These are those videos that never got viewed.

Deleting Videos That Were Never Watched

Once the watched videos are removed, one can delete the remaining ones, but now the videos which were not watched have to be removed one by one. Although the process is simple, it does take time, especially if there are many videos in the folder. The step-by-step procedure to delete individual videos is as follows −

Tap on the “Library” tab in the lower-right corner of the screen.

Tap “Watch Later” located in the list to open the entire list of saved videos in the watch later folder.

Tap on the “vertical ellipsis” (three vertical dots) in the top-right corner of the video that you want to delete.

A pop-up will come, select the “Remove from Watch Later” button and tap on it.

The video will be removed from the list.

All the video in this list must be deleted individually. The list will become empty after deletion.

Conclusion

Since mass deletion of the Watch Later list is not YouTube’s procedure, the outcome after deletion is the best option to have a concise list. If there are not that many videos to remove, do it frequently to save yourself from the trauma of deleting thousands. Still, if you have accumulated thousands of them, this might not be that good of an idea, but you must do it for a clean Watch later list.

If you’ve been around, you probably know and appreciate that VPNs are superheroes when it comes to online privacy protection. Throughout the years, technology has evolved to the point where tiny, handheld devices have more power than desktop computers. Almost.

Our point is that you can perform a lot of operations on your phone, including browsing the Internet. And truth be told, there’s probably more personal data on your phone than on your desktop PC.

For this reason, specialists have thought of developing VPNs that work on your phone seamlessly. You just install them as you would any other app, log into your account, and connect to a server.

Your phone might ask you if it’s okay to create a configuration profile for the VPN, and you’re all set.

However, as with many other mobile services, VPNs might trigger some inconveniences. For instance, you might be (apparently) stuck with unwanted VPN configuration profiles on your iPhone.

And that kinda takes away the fun from your pristine operating system and puts a dent in the flawlessness of your device. Although it won’t impair your iPhone’s functionality too much, that unwanted configuration profile can be quite annoying.

So let’s take a closer look and see how we can fix it.

How to remove unwanted VPN from your iPhone?

Unlock your iPhone

Locate the VPN app you want to remove

Touch and hold the app’s icon until it starts jiggling

Tap the x button in the upper-left corner of the icon

If prompted, confirm your action by hitting the Delete button

Note that most of the time, removing an app will also remove any data that’s associated with it. So, basically, removing a VPN should also delete the configuration profiles that it might’ve created.

How to delete VPN configuration profiles on your iPhone?

Unlock your iPhone

Go to the Settings app

Access the General category

Select the Profiles* option (also called Profiles & Device Management)

Tap the VPN configuration profile

Select the Delete Profile option

Type your device’s password if your iPhone asks for it

Select Delete once more

Restart your device

* – the Profiles option is visible only if your VPN uses configuration profiles and you have them set on your iPhone

This fix is intended to be used whenever residual data remains after deleting the VPN apps. Sometimes, removing the app isn’t enough to make the configuration profile disappear as well.

Although there’there’s little it can do to affect your iPhone’s functionality, attempting to create a configuration profile with the same name might not work.

For instance, if you’re trying to reinstall the app and the old configuration profile is there, you might have a difficult time making it work.
