Suggested March 2024 How To Force The Facebook App To Use An External Browser To View Links

The option to open links within the Facebook app in a browser of your choice is a good feature to have. For a start, it’s clear Facebook isn’t particularly dedicated to making its in-app browser any good any time soon. Also, the less data we’re directly feeding to Facebook, the better, right?

There’s been some strange activity with the option to open links externally in Facebook lately. The feature seemed to have been silently removed in June 2023, before being silently reinstated again.

So who knows if this option is going to stick around. But in the meantime, here’s how to force the Facebook app to use your browser of choice to view links.

What Is an In-App Browser?

In-app browsers are nothing but webpage viewers without all the other functionalities that browsers like Opera, Chrome, and Firefox have built in. The developers of apps like Facebook create these browsers to work only in their app. They cannot open independently, only through their app.

These browsers are used by companies such as Facebook, Twitter, and Gmail to keep you using their app instead of another one. They don’t want you to move out of their app.

Negatives of Facebook’s In-App Browser

Here’s what the Facebook in-app browser looks like. As you can see, it’s pretty feature-thin compared to Chrome and Firefox.

Beyond that, there’s a slew of reasons you might not want to use the in-app browser:

Change the Default Facebook Browser

If you would like to force Facebook to open links in your default browser, here are some steps to make that happen.

Scroll down to Media.

At the very bottom, you should see “Links open externally”. Check this box to enable it.

Now, next time you try to open a web page link through Facebook, you’ll see the below screen, asking you which browser you want to use to open links. You can tap “Always” to always open links in that browser from now on.

Now that you have set Facebook to use the default browser of your choice and not theirs, you will never have to worry again about losing access to a link after closing the app. You’ll be able to use the history in your browser and continue reading.

How To View Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, And More Without An Account

Decided to take a break from social media by deleting your account but still want to view the occasional post? You might have noticed a problem. Popular apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit now prevent non-account holders from freely accessing content on their networks. Luckily, there are a few workarounds that can help you bypass the restriction. In this turorial, we show you how to view posts and more without signing up.

Can You View Instagram Without Logging In?

While it used to be possible to view Instagram posts and profiles without an account, now things aren’t so straightforward. You do get limited access, although your experience quickly gets tainted by the repeated prompts to sign up with your username and password.

When trying to view an Instagram profile in a browser, either on desktop or mobile, you’ll be able to view a few posts, but if you scroll too far, you’ll be restricted. This happens if you’re using Firefox or Safari. In Chrome, you’ll be asked to log in from the get-go without even so much as a sneak peek of the profile you’re trying to view. The good news is that you can open posts; if you’re on PC you’ll need to open them in a new tab.

How to View Instagram Profiles and Stories Without an Account

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to get around this restriction and view Instagram profiles and stories. You’ll have to use an online service such as IGAnony, but there are many other options. You can access it in your browser. One thing to keep in mind is that this works only for public accounts.

Go to IGAnony and input the username of the account you want to view. (If you don’t know the exact account username, try performing a Google search like this: “name/nickname Instagram.”)

The profile you’re looking for should show up below.

Use the tabs at the top to select the type of content you want to view: Stories, Posts, or Highlights.

Tip: make your Instagram content stand out with camera filters and effects.

Search for Hashtags and Interests

You can’t access the Instagram’s search function without an account. Luckily, Google can help you do some basic searches. For instance, you can look for posts tagged with a certain hashtag – simply type into search something like “#technology hashtag instagram.” When I tried this I got the following results.

Furthermore, It’s possible to use a web tool such as Toolzu to search for profiles under a certain category. For instance, you can look for accounts associated with “Aquarium.”

How to View Twitter Content Without an Account

As with Instagram, to have access to content on Twitter without an account, you’ll have to use a browser – either on your PC or mobile. If you have the Twitter app on your phone, tapping on a Twitter link will automatically open the app, which will prompt you to log in.

For those who do have an account, here’s how to search Twitter like a pro.

Read Tweets From a Particular User

If you’re looking to read a post from a particular user, follow the steps below to find the user – even without an account.

Alternatively, you can search for the account directly in Google using “name/keyword twitter” to see the account (if they have one), as well as thumbnails, which shows their latest posts.

Note: you can’t see posts from private accounts, just like on Instagram.

Keep Up With What’s Trending

Now, maybe you were using Twitter to keep up with the latest trends. You can still do so by going to the #Explore tab and checking out the “Trends for you” section.

However, if you want to go beyond what Twitter is offering, third-party services like Trends24 offer a comprehensive view of what’s trending on Twitter. The website shows you the hottest hashtags over the last 24 hours, and you can even filter by country. The charts are upgraded every hour, so you can be sure you won’t miss anything.

Tip: had enough of Twitter? Here’s how you can delete your Twitter account.

Search Twitter

Searching Twitter without having an account is possible through the #Explore tab. Use the search bar at the top to look for usernames, topics, or any other keywords.

Once you press Enter, the search will show the top tab. You can switch to other tabs, including “Latest,” “People,” “Photos,” “and Videos” if you want to view more targeted search results.

What’s interesting is that Twitter’s Advanced search option doesn’t require an account to work. You can access it by tapping the three dots next to the search bar. Next, you can start searching using a string of words, an exact phrase, hashtags, filter by languageor time, and use many other options.

How to View Facebook Content Without an Account

Once upon a time, Facebook used to allow you to browse and search its network without many restrictions. Those days are gone now, so without an account, your experience is destined to be quite limited. Even so, there are still a few things you can do even without signing in.

View Facebook Posts

Before we proceed, keep in mind that many Facebook profiles are restricted (via Privacy settings, such as hiding their friends list) and therefore display only limited content. You won’t be able to view anything these people choose to share only with their friends on the network.

On mobile, account holders can share images with outside users via the “Share external” option. It can be accessed by opening the image in question and pressing on the three dots in the upper-right corner.

For posts with text and links, press on the three dots to the right of the postcard and select “Copy link.”

It’s possible to view Facebook content without an account on your desktop or mobile device using a browser. On mobile, you’ll get more intrusive requests to sign in with your account that can severely hamper your experience, so it may be better to use a PC instead.

Need more privacy on Facebook? Create a restricted list and share your posts and other content without worry.

Search for Accounts

Without logging in, you won’t have access to Facebook’s search, which lets you search for people. The good news is that you can still find who you’re looking for, but the results are a bit of a mixed bag – especially if the person you need to find has a pretty common name. If you’re looking for a celebrity or an institution, then it should be easy.

The first method is to use Google and perform a search among these lines “name facebook.” Once you press Enter, the search engine will list the accounts that match your query.

Social search engines like Social Searcher are also an option, although they tend to yield mixed results. On top of that, some of them require you to pay to gain full access to the data they can generate.

How to View Reddit Content Without an Account

Accessing Reddit without an account can be done, although if you want the better experience, we recommend you do so on your PC or use the mobile app. On your phone, you can also browse from the mobile browser, but you’ll be bombarded constantly by suggestions to use the app instead – unless you use a neat trick which we discuss below.

In your mobile browser, the experience is a bit annoying. You’ll constantly get asked if you want to view content using the Reddit app. The good news is that the Reddit app lets you view and browse content without issue. Just get it on your phone.

On the other hand, if, for whatever reason, you don’t want to download the app, you can use this trick to make browsing Reddit in your mobile browser bearable.

Tap on a Reddit link and open it in your mobile browser.

Replace the “www” of that link with “old.”

Now you can enjoy browsing Reddit for mobile without the constant interruptions.

Reddit currently maintains two versions of the website: the old one and the newer one, which actively invites mobile users to move to the app. The old one does not enforce any app-use restrictions, so if you don’t mind the outdated interface, this is the better way to browse Reddit in your mobile browser.

Search Reddit Without an Account

It’s possible to search Reddit like you normally would – even with an account. Just use the search bar at the top when browsing on your desktop by using keywords. On mobile, you’ll have to tap on the hamburger menu on the right to reveal the search bar.

How to View TikTok Content Without an Account

Surprisingly, TikTok is one of the friendlier social media apps that lets non-users easily browse. It’s possible to do so on desktop or mobile using your browser of choice.

View Clips and Search

The easiest way to access TikTok is via a link. Tap on it and let your default browser open it. Whether you’re on mobile or PC, it should work just fine, and you should be able to see the video. If, on the other hand, you’re targeting a particular user and wish to be able to browse their content, follow the path below.

Go to TikTok’s official page on desktop or mobile.

Search for the username using the bar at the top.

If you don’t want to see any particular TikToks and are just curious to see what the platform is all about, you can just browse. TikTok will automatically show you what’s trending in your region.

How to View LinkedIn Content Without an Account

If you’ve received a LinkedIn profile link, you can view it in the browser on your PC or mobile device even without an account. Most information, such as the introduction, work experience, and education, will be available. LinkedIn has various privacy options available, so you can’t see their profile picture or additional information if it has been hidden.

Note: you can only access a limited number of profiles per day before LinkedIn will revoke your access, asking you to create an account.

Searching for People

You can’t use LinkedIn’s search function and easily identify people on the network without an account. You can try using Google, but this method has yielded mixed results in testing. I personally couldn’t identify my LinkedIn account, although the results included some links that might have eventually lead to my page. On the other hand, I managed to find some acquaintances quite easily by searching for “name LinkedIn.”

An alternative would be to use the Social Searcher website, which searches for LinkedIn connections and not just Facebook contacts. It proved useful in testing.

Frequently Asked Questions Can I view the Facebook Marketplace without logging in to Facebook?

No. The Facebook Marketplace is an integrated part of Facebook, so you won’t be able to access it without an account. You may want to enlist the help of a friend who has a Facebook account. The only other option is a marketplace alternative such as Craigslist.

Can I deactivate my social media account as opposed to deleting it altogether?

In most cases, yes. All the apps we included on our list allow you to deactivate your account. If you’re not sure you want to leave social media for good, you can put your account on hold and return when you’re ready.

Are you getting the “For your account security, logging in to Facebook from an embedded browser is disabled” error on Facebook?

Here’s the rest of the error message, “To continue, download and log in to the Facebook app on your device and try again”.

As of mid-2024, a ton of users are experiencing this error.

The error message can happen when you try to log in to a game or an app with Facebook.

The affected games are PUBG, Free Fire, CODM, and many more.

In addition, you might not be able to log in to certain apps with Facebook.

In this guide, you’ll learn if you can log in to Facebook from an embedded browser and how to fix “Logging in to Facebook from an embedded browser is disabled”.

Can I log in to Facebook from an embedded browser?

No, you cannot log in to Facebook from an embedded browser.

As of October 5, 2023, Facebook has depreciated the support for Facebook login authentication on Android embedded browsers.

This is because of the increasing number of phishing attempts on Android embedded browsers.

The depreciation of Facebook login on embedded browsers will mitigate malicious activity.

The original post from Facebook was made on June 28, 2023.

However, Facebook delayed the depreciation to October 2023 to provide more time for developers to plan for it.

How to Fix “Logging in to Facebook from an embedded browser is disabled”

To fix “Logging in to Facebook from an embedded browser is disabled”, you need to go to your Facebook settings.

In your Facebook settings, tap on “Media” and enable “Links open externally”.

After you’ve enabled “Links open externally” the error message will be fixed!

This means that you’ll be able to use Facebook to log in to various apps and games.

Unfortunately, this solution only works on Android devices.

If you’re using an iOS device, there’s no fix for it.

Here’s how to fix “Logging in to Facebook from an embedded browser is disabled”:

1. Go to your Facebook settings

Firstly, you need to open the Facebook app on your mobile device.

Once you’ve opened the app, log in to your account if you haven’t already.

Now, tap on the menu icon on the top/bottom navigation bar.

Scroll down the menu until you see the “Settings & Privacy” option.

Tap on the “Settings & Privacy” option to expand it.

Lastly, tap on “Settings” to go to your Facebook settings.

2. Tap on “Media”

After you’ve tapped on “Settings”, you’ll land on the “Settings & privacy” page.

On the page, you’ll be able to update your information, customize your experience, and more.

Scroll down until you reach the “Preferences” header.

Under the “Preferences” header, you’ll see multiple options.

This includes “News Feed”, “Reaction preferences”, “Notifications”, and more.

Tap on “Media” to go to your media settings.

3. Enable “Links open externally”

After you’ve tapped on “Media”, you’ll land on your media settings.

Now, you’ll be able to adjust your sounds, video quality, autoplay, and more.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

At the bottom of the page, you’ll see a “Links open externally” option.

Enable “Links open externally” to open links externally.

After you’ve enabled “Links open externally”, the “Logging in to Facebook from an embedded browser is disabled” error will be fixed!

This means that you’ll finally be able to log in to various apps and games.

Keep in mind that the “Links open externally” option only shows up on Android devices.

It will not show up on iOS devices.

How do I enable login from embedded browser on Facebook?

Here’s how to enable login from an embedded browser on Facebook:

Open the Facebook app and log in to your account.

Tap on the menu.

Tap on “Settings & privacy”.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and enable “Links open externally”.

After you’ve enabled “Links open externally”, the Facebook login will be enabled on embedded browsers.

Conclusion

With the depreciation of the Facebook login authentication on Android embedded browsers, Android users can no longer log in to apps and games with Facebook.

You can follow the solution above to bypass this.

If you’re still unable to fix the “Logging in to Facebook from an embedded browser is disabled” error, you can try changing your default browser to Chrome or Firefox.

After you’ve tapped on “Forgot password”, you need to tap on the section option (email) and enter your password.

This will take you to Facebook where you’ll have to close the page and try to connect Facebook to the game or app again.

This time, you should be able to log in to the game with Facebook.

How To Use The Google Jamboard App

Google Jamboard refers to a piece of hardware and a software tool. Google Jamboard— the physical object—is a whiteboard on steroids. It costs nearly $5,000 (and that’s not even including the $1349 for a rolling stand). So far, it’s most often used in the workplace and in distance learning settings like Google Classroom.

However, you don’t have to own a Google Jamboard to use the Jamboard app. In this article, we’ll walk through how to use Jamboard even if you haven’t bought the physical digital whiteboard product. Google Jamboard integrates with other Google apps, too. In this tutorial, we’ll also learn how to insert files from Google Photos and Google Drive.

Table of Contents

What Is a Google Jamboard?

A Google Jamboard is a 55” whiteboard screen that connects to phones and tablets. Imagine you’re in a brainstorming meeting where some people are in the room, and others are connected remotely. The Jamboard in the room is available to participants to use like a traditional whiteboard, but it can also project into a Hangouts video meeting so remote participants can collaborate with the people in the room.

In other words, Google Jamboard combines the hand-on feel and features of a physical whiteboard with the distributed collaboration features of a whiteboard app.

The Google Jamboard app is available to anyone with a Google account.

How to Whiteboard with the Jamboard App

Log into a Google account, and begin by selecting or tapping the Plus icon to create a new Jam. As soon as you create a new jam, it’s automatically saved to your account.

How to Draw, Write, and Add Notes

There are many Jamboard tools you can use to collaborate. When you’re working on a jam, you can draw, write, and add notes just like you can on traditional whiteboards and in other whiteboard applications.

Select the Drawing tool to choose from among pens, markers, highlighters, and brushes of different widths and colors. In the app, use your finger to draw inside the frame. On the desktop site, use the mouse. The eraser is always available to erase any part of your drawing.

If you’re using the app on a mobile device, you can access Assistive drawing tools from the Drawing tool. If you’ve scrawled some text with your finger, the assistive drawing tools can convert your chicken scratches to text. Similarly, if you draw a wonky circle, the assistive drawing tool can clean it up and make it a perfect shape.

Select Insert note from the toolbar to add a virtual sticky note. You can change the note’s color and type directly in the note itself. Similarly, select Text Box to be able to type directly in the jam.

How to Add an Image to a Jam

You can search for images inside a jam, which is a feature we haven’t seen in other whiteboard apps like Microsoft Whiteboard.

If you’re using Jamboard in a browser, select the Image tool from the toolbar. Next, select an image file to add to the jam by selecting one of the following methods:

Upload from your computer

By URL

Camera

Google image search

Google Drive

Google Photos

Once you’ve located the image you want to add to the jam, select Insert, and the image will appear on the jam.

From a jam in the Jamboard app, tap the Expand icon (+) and then select Image library. Select an image and it will be inserted into the jam where you can resize it as you wish. If you don’t see the resizing controls, pinch and zoom in on the jam until you see the controls.

How to Insert a File from Google Drive into a Jam

You’ll need to be using the Google Jamboard app to add Drive files to a jam, so if you’ve only been using Jamboard in a web browser, start by installing the app on your mobile device.

Open an existing jam or create a new one. Then from the toolbar, select Expand (+), and then Drive content. Choose a file from your Google Docs, Google Slides, or other files in Google Drive and tap Select. The file will be inserted into the jam.

How to Add, Rearrange, Copy, or Delete Jam Frames

If you’re using Google Jamboard in a web browser or the app, use the frame toolbar at the top of the screen to add, rearrange, copy, or delete jam frames.

Selecting the arrow to the right of the frames icon will create a new frame.

Select the plus icon between frames to insert a frame. To delete or duplicate a frame, select the frame and then select the More icon (three dots) and choose Delete or Duplicate.

How to Share a Jam with Others

Google Jamboard works best as a collaboration tool. Work with other people on a jam in real time, or share a jam with others so they can edit it later. You can also give others view-only access to a jam.

From your computer, open or create a new jam and select the Share button. Enter the people or groups you want to share with and say whether they can edit or just view the jam. Then select the Done button.

If you want to share the jam as a file from your computer, download the jam as a PNG or PDF file by selecting the More icon and then choosing Download as PDF or Save frame as image.

From the Jamboard app, open or create a jam and tap the More icon and then Share. Enter a name or email address and select whether people with the link can edit or only view the jam. Tap the Send icon.

If you want to share your jam from the app as a PDF, open the jam you want to share, tap the More icon, and then tap Share Jam as PDF. From there, select how you want to share the PDF file.

What’s Changed in the Jam? What Are Jams Good For?

It’s obvious that Google Jamboard could be a great educational technology tool for remote teaching and learning from kindergarten to high school. In any learning environment, it’s important for each learner to feel engaged.

How To Find Birthdays On Facebook App

Ok, let’s be honest, does anyone know where anything is on the Facebook app anymore? The app seems to change from week to week, and with it, our favorite functions get tossed around. Facebook is definitely a lifesaver when it comes to birthdays (who even remembers birthdays anymore?). If you’re looking to find out who’s birthdays are coming up here is how you can go about it.

How does Facebook know my birthday?

When you sign up for Facebook you are asked to input your date of birth to prove that you are over the age limit for the app. Facebook uses this information and publishes it on our profile as your birthday. Of course, like everything on your Facebook profile you can always opt to hide it away.

Facebook sends out a notification every day letting you know whose birthday it is that day. This little reminder is a great way to stay updated with your friends’ birthdays!

How to find birthdays on the Facebook app

Well, the Facebook app is now in a new form, and the old way of searching through Birthday is no longer available. Previously you could find a ‘Birthdays’ tab under Events, however, that is no longer the case.

It’s really quite easy to find birthdays now. All you have to do is launch the Facebook app and search from the word ‘Birthday’.

Tap on the search button in the top right corner of the app, and type ‘Birthday’ in the search box.

You should see a list of birthdays that are today.

How to view upcoming birthdays of your friends on Facebook?

So you know whose birthday is today. But what about tomorrow? Next week? Luckily, Facebook lets you view all your friend’s birthdays in order of when they are. You can also view past birthdays up to three days prior, in case you wanted to feel bad about not wishing your bestie.

Once you are in the ‘Birthdays’ function of Facebook, tap ‘See all’. This will present you with a list of all your friends’ birthdays in the coming weeks and months.

How to view someone’s birthday on their profile?

If a person has added their birthday on Facebook and made it visible, it will appear on their profile.

To view a person’s birthday, first go to their profile on Facebook. Now under the profile picture, select ‘See About info’.

Scroll down to ‘Basic Info’. This is where their birthday will be mentioned.

What about finding birthdays on Facebook Web on PC?

How to send a personalized birthday card on the Facebook app?

You might have seen these personalized birthday cards on user’s Facebook stories. Facebook automatically generates birthday cards for users on their birthday. These cards are available to anyone who wants to wish them.

The cards are visible below the person whose birthday is today. If you see a camera icon on the card it means the card is an AR filter! You can add an image along with the filter.

Once you are done, tap the little button with the person’s profile picture at the bottom. This will add your birthday card to the auto-generated birthday story created by Facebook.

It’s also important to choose imagery that supports your messaging. For instance, point-of-sales systems provider Revel Systems tested different creative for its lead ad campaign, and found images with the product as a focal point were much more effective.

Ask the right questions

If Facebook’s provided questions don’t meet your needs you can create custom questions for your form. Choose between short answer, multiple choice and conditional questions, which change based on how a previous question was answered.

Your form can also include Store Locator and Appointment Scheduling fields which let people search for a nearby location or schedule visits.

Need help brainstorming questions? Facebook’s rubric of business goals and examples is a good place to start.

Lookalike audiences: If your goal is to expand your customer base, create a Lookalike Audience modeled off of your most valuable customers in order to find similar users. Learn more about how to use lookalike audiences.

Custom audiences: Examples of custom audiences can include people who are subscribed to your newsletter, recent site and app visitors, or people in your CRM.
