Depending on where you are, and what locale you work with, and lastly, which locale you belong to, Windows 11/10 allows you to override default regional format settings for an improved local experience. Let us see how to do it,Override default Regional Format settings in Windows 11
The Settings menu has witnessed a significant change with Windows 11. This is especially true with the Time, Language, and Region settings. While most of the basic settings are still the same, their positions have changed significantly. The procedure to override default Regional Format settings in Windows 11 is as follows:
In the Settings window, go to the Time & languages tab on the list on the left-hand side.
In the right pane, select Language & region.
From the Region section, you will notice the Country or region option.
You can use the drop-down menu to change to the country of your choice.
All settings including Calendar, holidays, etc will change accordingly.Override default Regional Format settings in Windows 10
After changing, you will not have to reboot your Windows 10 PC. However, some of the apps will have to be closed and launched again to apply the new format. So if you need to use apps that are of a different locale, the changes will appear only when you relaunch the app.
Apart from this, after changing the locale or region format, you can choose a different language that makes more sense to you. In simple words, if you like more common words than standard words in your Windows, this is the way to go. This local format will be used for navigation, menus, messages, settings, and other topics. Under Languages, look for a link which says “Add a Windows display language with local experience packs“.
Lastly, Windows has started utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and neural network-based Machine Learning (ML) for Windows localization. As the number increase, Machine language improvements, and user feedback will help make translations better, and make it available to more and more languages.
Overall it’s an interesting move from Microsoft. The demand for topics and machines to be available in local languages have been growing past few years. Thanks to improving internet conditions. By involving more local content, it will eventually help business to grow faster. Why do regional settings matter when we could simply change the time zone?
The time zone speaks of the time only. In a single time zone, there could be different countries with different holidays and calendars. Even language settings could vary. Thus, the regional settings aren’t only about the time zone and you need to specify the country and region. What is the default regional setting?
Since most users don’t change the default regional settings, it is important to know what they are. You remember when you must have first tried to set your system. The default setting is usually set to the United States, but you can change it at the time of setting up your system. If you choose to skip all settings to set up your system in a hurry, the regional settings will be selected at the United States.
If you are using Windows 11 it is now possible to configure how certain files, apps, etc download on your device. This means that you can save music, documents, files, and apps to different folders automatically. The feature still needs a little tweaking but so far it seems to be working quite well and is worth using.

Although Windows 11 was released with next to no new features and a few basic design changes. The last six months have seen some nice improvements added to the operating, which aim to add basic quality of life functionality to the operating system. One such addition is the ability to configure where certain files, files, maps, and apps are saved by default. This is fantastic if you want to use a different drive or if your computer has limited space on the main storage.
At this stage, the feature is still a little basic as it doesn’t offer the fine-tuning for save paths that you’d expect. For example, you can configure it to save music content to C:UsersJaschMusic or video content to C:UsersJaschVideos etc. It will only allow you to change the primary drive that content is saved to, D: drive or E: drive for example. Which is fine if you are really pressed for space. Hopefully in future updates, this will be expanded upon, though it may stake some time.
How do you change the default save locations on Windows 11?
In order to change the default location that certain content saves to on Windows 11, you’ll need to do the following. First make sure that you have the latest version of Windows 11 installed on your computer, then do the following.
To begin, press the Windows Key + I keyboard shortcut to open Settings.
Here you will see a list of all the different file types, etc that you can save to different locations. By default they will all be set to Windows C:
Now all you have to do is use the drop-down menu to select a new location to save that particular type of content. However, it is currently limited to the core location of the drive. So C: D: E: etc. This doesn’t exactly give you all that much sway over things but it is handy if you don’t have much space left on C: to save your data.
Once you have made the change it will take effect instantly and can be changed as often as you like. If you are configuring this with an external/removable drive, just be aware that Windows will automatically default back to C: if you remove the drive and continue to download content to any of those locations. As we mentioned above, we expect this feature to be expanded upon later on down the track, which would make it far more useful.

Windows is what fueled this era of computing – at least for the general consumers – it made enough money to make Bill Gates the richest man alive, and from there it has traveled a long journey adding and removing features.
Over the decades, it has added a multitude of features and removed several others in the pursuit of staying ahead of its competition and always innovating.
Its users have been loyal to it – mostly because it is the most used operating system around and therefore the most familiar and easy to use. However, it has also bloated itself with its legacy at the same time.
Windows comes with hundreds of features that you might never use but are required to just be there for legacy support – making Windows is an extremely complicated operating system to build and maintain.
These complexities only get in the way when you try to upgrade to the latest and great version of Windows – something that would result in loss of data if it was not for the amazing upgrade feature of Windows.
It isn’t perfect though – one of the examples of its failures is when the upgrade process fails to install the default Windows 10 apps during the upgrade. This guide will help you attempt to fix the issue – it is not hard to do.What can I do if Windows 10 default apps missing?
Many users reported that their default apps are missing on Windows 10. This can be a problem, and speaking of app problems, here are some of the most common issues that users reported:
Windows 10 apps missing from Start Menu – According to users, sometimes your apps can become missing from the Start Menu. This can happen if you have God Mode enabled, so be sure to disable this feature and check if that solves the issue.
Windows 10 default apps not working – Sometimes your default apps won’t work at all on Windows 10. If this happens, you might have to reinstall them in order to fix this issue.
Windows 10 default apps won’t open – Many users reported that default apps won’t open on their PC. This can be a big problem, but you can fix it by repairing or resetting your apps.
Windows 10 default apps not installed – This is another common problem that you can encounter. If this happens, you just need to download the affected applications again, and the issue should be resolved.
Windows 10 default apps corrupted – Sometimes your applications can get corrupted. To fix the problem, you might have to create a new user profile or roll back to the previous Windows build.1. Use PowerShell to reinstall the missing applications
This simple 3 step process should install and register the default Windows 10 apps for you.
When you press Enter it might look like it’s not doing anything but you must give it some time to download the applications and install them once again.
You might need to restart your computer in some cases for it to affect – but it should work without a restart in most cases.2. Disable God Mode
However, many users reported that God Mode can also cause Windows 10 default apps to become missing.3. Perform a Clean boot
If this problem occurs after installing a new build, first you need to go back to the previous build. After doing that, you need to perform a Clean boot. This is quite simple and you can do it by following these steps:
Once your PC restarts, all third-party applications, and services will be disabled. Now you just need to wait for Windows to install the new build again. Once the new build installs, check if the problem is resolved.
If needed, you can install the update manually using the Media Creation Tool. To do that, just follow these steps:
Expert tip:4. Turn of your antivirus before upgrading
This issue can appear if you install a new build of Windows 10 while your antivirus is still running in the background.
Sometimes third-party antiviruses can interfere with your files and that can cause Windows 10 default apps to disappear after the upgrade.
Keep in mind that you can go back to the older build only 10 days after the upgrade. If this option isn’t available, you might have to use System Restore to go back to the previous build.
Once you roll back to the previous version you should disable your antivirus and try to upgrade again. Several users suggested that you might have to uninstall your antivirus in order to fix this problem.
Once you uninstall it, the upgrade process should be completed smoothly and without any issues.
If everything works after the upgrade, you should install your antivirus again or consider switching to a more well-balanced security solution.
We thankfully have access to plenty of good options for Windows 10 compatible antivirus software that use up-to-date technology to protect your PC.
You can find good third-party antivirus software that can fit your specific security requirements. There are very many powerful options regardless of your budget or system resources.5. Create a new user account
If default apps are missing on your PC, you might be able to fix the problem simply by creating a new user account. This is quite simple and you can do it by following these steps:
After creating a new user account, switch to it, and check if your apps are still missing. If not, you might have to start using the new account instead of your main one.
Several users are also suggesting to switch back to the older build, create a new user account, and use that account while upgrading to a new build.6. Repair the application
If certain applications are missing, you might be able to fix the problem simply by repairing them. Applications can get corrupted, but you can fix them by doing the following:
Now repeat these steps for all affected applications. Keep in mind that some applications don’t have the Repair option available, so your only option might be to reset them.
Missing apps can be a problem, but we hope that you managed to solve this issue by using one of our solutions.

Here’s something about Windows XP that really annoys me: why can’t you increase or decrease the size of thumbnails in Explorer like you can in Windows 7 and Windows 8? If you’re going to have thumbnails in the first place, is it that hard to put in a little slider bar whereby you can increase or decrease the size? I hate going through a folder in Explorer and not being able to clearly see the details of the picture.
I guess Microsoft didn’t think about that issue when the released Windows XP. Nor did they add the option in Service Pack 3, the last major non-security update to XP. By default, the thumbnails in Windows XP look like this:
Table of Contents
That size is simply not large enough, especially for anyone with vision problems! Luckily, there’s an easy way to modify these settings so that the thumbnails can be any size you want up to 256×256. Unfortunately, the max size for icons in Explorer is 256×256 pixels. If you want to see them bigger than that, you’ll have to use a third-party program. Scroll down past Tweak UI to learn about adjust thumbnail sizes in Windows 7/8.Tweak UI
Previously, I had written about a cool little utility that you can get for free from Microsoft called Tweak UI that lets you modify and tweak a bunch of Windows XP settings. Using this program, we can quickly and easily change the default 96 pixels size of thumbnails to something more visible.
Change the default size from 96 to something higher. In my case, I chose 256. Also, make sure to keep the Image Quality closer to high so that the thumbnails look nice. Of course, it will take more resources when browsing pictures, but if you have a fairly new computer, it should not be a problem.
Now when you browse through your photos in My Pictures or anywhere where you have thumbnails turned on, you should see something like this:
Now that is much better! 😉 I can actually see what’s going on in a picture! Cheers! The second method for changing the thumbnail size is to modify the registry.ThumbnailSize Registry Hack
By default, in Windows 7 and Windows 8, you can choose from Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large icons. You can adjust the size by moving the slider in Windows 7.
Anyway, back to the registry hack. If you want a custom size for your icons, you can open the registry editor by going to Start and then typing in regedit. Then navigate to the following registry key in the left pane:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER – Software – Microsoft – Windows – CurrentVersion – Explorer
You should be able to see the effects immediately when you open a new Explorer window. Note that the thumbnail size will apply to all folders and files regardless of what other settings you may have previously chosen. You can still manually change the thumbnail size for a particular folder, but when you browse back to the same folder later, the thumbnails will display with the custom size you set in the registry.Preview Pane in Windows 7/8
If you’re still not happy with the 256 max size for thumbnails in Windows and you don’t want to install any third-party software, you have one other option. Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 have a Preview Pane option that basically lets you view a preview that is as large as you can make the preview pane itself.
Are you getting “File is too large” error when you try to send a video to someone via a sharing or social platform? Or do you just want to save your disk space by reducing the file size of your video files? This guide will show you several methods on how to compress a video to reduce its file size in Windows 11.
The most common practice of reducing the file size of a video is reduce the video resolution. Raw video recorded using a camera or screen recorder usually has a very large resolution. If the video is to be seen on a rather smaller device, you can reduce its resolution to a smaller size such as 720p, 480p, etc. to significantly reduce its file size.
Some video players and apps will allow you to export a video with a different resolution. In Windows 11, you can use the built-in Photos app’s Video Editor feature to change the resolution of a video. Alternatively, you can also use a third party software such as VLC player to convert a video to a different resolution, but with much more choices of video resolutions.
Follow the steps below to change a video resolution using Photos app in Windows 11.
1. First, search for and open Video Editor via Start.
4. To edit the video, drag the video from the Project library to the are where it says “Drag items from the project library here”.
VLC media player is a popular media player that supports a wide range of audio and video formats. But did you know that you can also use VLC player to compress videos? With VLC player, you can easily compress your videos without sacrificing too much quality.
3. Next, select a Profile that best describe on what device the video will be viewed on. For example, if you select the “Video for iPod HD/iPhone/PSP” profile, VLC will convert the video to 480p along with other settings that best suited to be viewed on an iPhone, which will significantly reduce the video file size if the original resolution is rather large.
Trimming a video means to remove unwanted parts of the video to create a clip out of it. Doing so will reduce the video’s total file size as the video gets shortened. You can trim a video file using any video editor. In Windows 11, you can use the Photo’s app built-in Video Editor feature to trim a video without installing any third party software.
To learn how to do so, go to: How to edit and trim a video in Windows 11.
ZIP is a file format that supports lossless data compression. You can compress your video files by compressing it using Zip, or other compression formats such as RAR or 7Zip.
In the Add to archive window, select a compression level. The higher the compression level (“Ultra” being the highest level), the better the compression and the smaller the file size after compressed.
If a video is too large in size that there is no way to compress it small enough to fit into the sharing platform such as Facebook, WhatsApp, etc., you can upload your video file onto a file sharing service such as Google Drive or Dropbox, and then send the video link to whoever you want to share with so that they can download it using the link.
Since the file size limit for individual file you can upload to these sharing services is usually very large, you can upload your original video or compressed video without the concern of file size limit.
Alternatively, you can also upload your video directly to YouTube and share the video only with whoever you want to share with by setting the video as “unlisted” or “private”.
