As you’ve likely heard, iOS 9 allows you to sideload apps on to your iPhone or iPad using Xcode 7. This means that you can find an open source app, load it into Xcode, and deploy it to your device, bypassing the App Store in the process. All of this can be done without a paid developer account.
This essentially amounts to Apple “opening up” iOS to all apps. All it takes is a little knowledge of Xcode 7, an iPhone or iPad running iOS 9, and a little bit of time. Of course, there are always variations and one-offs that appear from time to time, but for the most part, sideloading apps is easy. In this post, we’ll show you how.
Note: Before we get started, be sure to only sideload apps that you trust. Since these apps are open source, look through the code if you wish to see what the app is doing. If you’re not comfortable wading through code, be sure that others have vouched for the app before deploying anything your device. Remember, these apps have not been reviewed by Apple.
This tutorial will serve as sort of a reference guide for all of our posts that involve sideloading an app. In this example I’m going to use GitHub as our source for apps.
Create a developer accountThis isn’t a paid developer account, but it’s a developer account nonetheless. If you already have a developer account, you can skip this section, otherwise you want to create one now. Keep in mind that a normal Apple ID can be turned into a developer account.
Download Xcode 7You’ll need Xcode 7 to sideload apps to your iPhone. There’s simply no way around this. Xcode 7 is a large download, so you definitely want to initiate the download as soon as possible. You can find Xcode 7 on the Mac App Store. Once you download it, launch the app and complete the setup.
Add your developer account to Xcode 7 Find the app you wish to sideloadGitHub is a great resource for open source apps. In this example, I’m going to show you how to quickly sideload an app called Gamma Thingy. This is an app that allows for changes to the iPhone’s screen gamma settings for comfortable viewing in low light settings.

Select your device from the drop down box next to the project name near the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Keep in mind that it may take a while to fully process the symbol files needed for your connected device.
Build and deploy the app Untrusted Developer) to begin the build process. Depending on the app involved, this may take a while. Once the app is built, it should appear on your iPhone’s Home screen. Unlock your device, and launch the app from your iPhone to verify that it works.

The point is, it may take some time for you to get this right, especially if you’ve never used Xcode before. But don’t give up, it’s very rewarding to be able to take an app that you see online, and deploy it on your own. This one is a little more obscure, but I thought it should be included in the list. iOS 9’s App Switcher has been completely redesigned, and with the redesign comes rounded App Switcher cards.
DashLast but not least, Dash was a jailbreak tweak released back in 2012 that allowed users to change the App Switcher look and animation style (CardSwitcher did it even before that in 2011). Not only did it allow for a full screen App Switcher, it brought a Time Machine-inspired animation style to the table, too. Notice anything similar about the App Switcher in iOS 9?
It’s a continuing trend that’s been going on since the very beginning of the iPhone’s existence, and as long as jailbreaking is around, I don’t see this trend changing. Android is an app-driven platform. Everything that you can do on your Galaxy S4 you can achieve by running apps. Some apps (especially system apps) come with your phone straight from the factory, others you install from sources such as the Google Play Store. There’s not much that you can do to remove preinstalled system apps, but — just in case you haven’t gotten round to actually doing it first time — you can actually uninstall user apps and recover storage space.
If you think that the only way to uninstall apps on the Galaxy S4 is through the Google Play Store app, then this article holds a few surprises for you. In this article, you’ll learn how to uninstall apps on the Galaxy S4. There are actually several ways to do it.
Using Google Play Store app
This, of course, is a no-brainer. But, for completeness, let me just include this here. While you can argue that the Uninstall button is hard to miss on a freshly installed app’s page in the Google Play Store app, some people do have the innate ability to overlook that button.
Although not the one and only source, the Google Play Store is the default primary source of apps for most Android users. Its accompanying app allows you to discover and install new apps or remove and uninstall old ones.
App uninstallation via the Play Store app takes only a few steps:
open Play Store app,
tap on Menu,
select My Apps,
tap on name of app to be removed, and
tap the Uninstall button.
Using Application Manager
Besides the Play Store app, Android’s built-in Application Manager can also be used to uninstall apps. Just open the Settings app, tap on the More tab, and select Application Manager.
In Application Manager, you should be able to see a list of your installed apps, organized into four tabs:
Downloaded — Lists all apps that you downloaded to your phone
On SD Card — Lists all apps that are installed in your phone’s storage
Running — Lists all apps that are active or are running in the background
All — Lists all apps, regardless of source or installation location
To remove an app using the Application Manager, just tap the app’s name on the list to open the app’s info page, then tap the Uninstall button. It’s that easy. You may want to tap the Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons first before hitting Uninstall.

Open the App Drawer.
Tap Menu.
Tap Edit.
Hold down and drag the app’s icon to the Uninstall icon at the top-right.
The foregoing method also lets you remove apps that you manually installed.
