Suggested March 2024 How To Watch Mkv & Avi Video On Ipad Or Iphone Free With Vlc

We’ve discussed VLC for iOS before for it’s versatility, but this time we’re going to walk through using VLC and a web browser to transfer video files from a computer to an iOS device – wirelessly – and then play that HD movie file directly on the iPhone or iPad.

While we’re using an MKV file as an example here, VLC supports just about every video file format, so you can copy over and watch MKV, MPG, MP4, AVI, DIVX, WMV, MOV, and just about anything other movie you may come across. Additionally, VLC can copy or stream video files stored on DropBox and Google Drive, but that’s a topic for another tutorial. Because VLC relies only on a web browser to copy the files to iOS, you can initiate the file transfers from any machine too, whether it’s a Mac, Windows, or Linux computer, and whether or not it’s your own PC or someone else’s also doesn’t matter, the whole process circumvents the traditional iTunes method for copying the video to iOS – it’s that versatile.

1: How to Copy Video Files to iOS with VLC

This works to transfer any movie file to any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, from any computer. The only requirement is that the computer with the video files and the iOS device are on the same wi-fi network.

1a: Prepare VLC from iOS

Get VLC for free from the App Store on your iOS device

Open VLC app on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and tap on “Done” to skip the intro (or flip through it and learn a bit more about VLC if you want)

Tap on the Cone icon in the upper corner

Look for the “WiFi Upload” switch and toggle it to the ON position

With the VLC upload server now active, you can transfer video content from a computer easily, that’s what we’ll cover next.

1b: Copying the Movie Files Wirelessly to iOS from Any Computer

From any computer (Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, etc) open any web browser

Let the upload process complete the file transfer from the computer to iOS

Now that you’ve copied a movie or video file over, you can watch it from the iPhone / iPad!

2: Watching the MKV Movie on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch with VLC

Tap on the video file of choice to start watching it on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

VLC plays video content just about flawlessly regardless of the movie format type. Tapping on the video once it’s playing will reveal the familiar video player controls of pausing, reverse, fast forward, a timeline, and audio controls.

Enjoy your video files on the go! Keep in mind that high resolution video formats like MKV, which is often a BluRay rip, can eat some serious storage capacity on an iOS device, so unless you have a larger capacity iPad or iPhone, you may want to use lower resolution and more compressed video files to begin with. That’s also when the more space-conscious AVI, MPEG, m4v, MP4 can be good video format choices, particularly since the screen size and resolution of smaller iOS devices, even with a retina display, don’t really use the full high definition MKV potential. That makes the MKV files probably best for an iPad, but they certainly work on the iPhone and iPod touch too.

How To Watch Youtube In Hdr

High dynamic range video (HDR) offers many benefits, like a much broader range of color and luminance compared to standard dynamic range video (SDR).

HDR content typically has a bit depth of at least 10-bits per each red, green and blue sub-pixel, resulting in 30-bit color which is enough to encode up to a billion colors. SDR content is usually 8 bits per sample (24-bit color) and that’s good for about 16.7 million colors.

Feeding HDR video to a device that can decode HDR and is connected to an HDR-compatible display yields better contrast, greater brightness levels and a much wider color palette.

You get true-to-life colors like in the movie theater, without ugly banding.

To be suitable for HDR reproduction, an LCD screen must have a maximum brightness of 1000 nits along with a black level of less than 0.05 nits and a contrast ratio of at least 20,000:1.

TUTORIAL: How to watch HDR movies on iPad Pro

In terms of OLED display technology used in iPhone X and many OLED television sets from LG and others, a maximum brightness of 540 nits and a black level of less than 0.0005 nits are required, resulting in a contrast ratio of at least 1,080,000:1.

Many HDR movies are, mostly, between 500 and 800 nits.

Does my Apple device play HDR?

When it comes to watching YouTube in HDR on iOS, your choices are limited to the mobile YouTube app on iPhone X—the only Apple device with a true HDR screen.

Other Apple devices aren’t outfitted with displays that can render HDR signal natively even though they may support Apple’s Wide Color (the DCI-P3 color profile).

Dithering ≠ HDR

What those devices actually do is process the HDR signal and then use various dithering techniques to simulate visual enhancements to dynamic range, contrast and wide color gamut.

Bottom line: iPhone X is the only iOS device with a native HDR display.

While you’re technically able to play HDR-encoded video on your iPhone 8, remember that you’re seeing simulated, dithered color that won’t fool an experienced eye. As for iPad Pro, it does have a Retina display that’s bright and vibrant enough for HDR specification. However, YouTube hasn’t flipped the switch yet enable HDR on iPad Pro yet.

Here’s how you can enjoy YouTube in HDR on your iPhone X.

How to watch YouTube in HDR on iOS

Do the following to watch YouTube in HDR on your iPhone X.

1) Open the YouTube app on your iPhone X.

TIP: Be sure that you’re using the latest version of the app.

2) Tap a video you’d like to watch.

3) Tap the video to reveal onscreen controls, then hit the three dots in the upper-right corner.

4) Choose Quality from the popup menu.

5) Choose one of the resolutions that include “HDR”.

NOTE: The video player will remember this setting for future videos you watch.

If the video wasn’t uploaded in HDR, you won’t be able to pick an HDR resolution from the menu. Unfortunately, you cannot watch 4K video in the YouTube app with your iPhone X because Apple doesn’t support YouTube’s VP9 video compression codec.

Opening an HDR video file in any other app on any other Apple device—including embedded videos like the one included further below—will play it in SDR unless the device has a built-in HDR screen or is connected to one.

Examples of HDR videos

While some videos may have “HDR” in their title, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re encoded in HDR. You can confirm HDR playback when a YouTube video is played if you see an “HDR” badge on the playback controls or in the Quality menu.

Channels like The HDR Channel and Jacob + Katie Schwarz are good starting points for exploring the world of eye-candy footage in all its HDR glory.

I’d recommend checking out the videos titled “The World in HDR in 4K (ULTRA HD)” and “The God of War Intro” on both your iPhone X and a non-HDR device like your Mac or Windows PC to witness the difference in color depth and luminance for yourself.

This one, embedded below, looks crazy on an iPhone X. For the full effect, HDR content will typically make parts of the image look brighter than the display usually allows in SDR mode.

Be sure to boost the brightness when watching HDR to marvel a greater span of colors.

My device lacks HDR

YouTube detects the type of display you’re watching the video on and automatically down-converts the HDR file to SDR. In other words, viewers watching on non-HDR devices will see the video as an SDR video.

Other video apps do HDR, too. Last year, Vimeo added HDR support for iPhone X and Netflix picked up HDR support for iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPad Pro.

On desktop, connect your Mac or Windows PC to an external HDR monitor to enjoy high dynamic range on YouTube, but don’t forget to select an HDR resolution from the Quality menu!

As mentioned earlier, even though you’ll see some visual enhancements to dynamic range, contrast and wide color gamut when playing HDR or Dolby Vision content on your iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, images won’t be at the full level of HDR visual fidelity afforded by the OLED display technology in your iPhone X.

For those wondering, YouTube for tvOS doesn’t support 4K HDR on Apple TV 4K.

How To Get 4,000 Watch Hours On Youtube

There is a lot of criticism behind the 4,000 watch hours YouTube demands before getting access to monetization features on your channel. But if you look at the numbers, it’s a small stepping stone in the journey towards making a living on the platform.

It’s still often the first major milestone any new YouTube content creator will set their eyes on. So how can you reach 4,000 watch hours on YouTube successfully? And what can you do to start a new career on YouTube?

Table of Contents

Why You Shouldn’t Care About Losing 4,000 Monetized Watch Hours On YouTube

Let’s break the news first. 4,000 hours won’t equal to much income. Take a look at the stats below. It’s all based on our own experience on YouTube.

The average view duration on our channel in a one year period was 4 minutes, 7 seconds. That would mean to reach that 4,000 hour mark, we’d need to accumulate 60,000 views on our channel. The average CPM on our channel in the year was $7.16, with roughly half of our views resulting in a monetized playback.

YouTube takes a 45% cut, too, so after all of this, a total of 60,000 views on our channel earned us $117. It’s certainly a nice chunk of change, but it’s nothing massive.

So what does this all mean? Well, you’d take a loss of about $117 with the new 4,000 watch hours YouTube requires before monetization can be enabled. If you truly care about making something out of your YouTube channel, this really isn’t a loss worth worrying about.

But I Want 4,000 Watch Hours Now. How Can I Do It?

We’re going to share a really great strategy with you below that will help you to break out in your niche and capture thousands of engaged viewers. It’s a long term mission that will take you far, far past just 4,000 watch hours on YouTube.

However, if you really care about hitting that 4,000 hour mark with the audience you have currently, we will list some cheat sheet style methods you can abuse to squeeze as much watch time out as possible.

Create 20-60 Minute Podcasts

You could consider starting your own podcast. This will allow you to squeeze as much watch time per viewer, but it will also allow you to publish videos with less effort on editing. You can press record, do your podcast, press end, and then publish the raw video.

Live Stream

Live streaming requires no editing and it’s another method to rack up watch time and it counts toward your 4,000 hours. You can multiply your average viewers by the length of your stream to estimate your watch time. So, a single 4 hour stream with 50 average viewers would equal roughly 200 hours of watch time.

Increase Your Normal Video Length

Longer videos are becoming the norm on YouTube so don’t shy away from posting videos that are 10 minutes or longer and avoid posting shorter videos if you can.

All of these methods are successful in getting more watch time, but instead of focusing on this 4,000 hour mark, think ahead to bigger goals. Work hard and put the time in and that number will surely be reached and bigger milestones will quickly become your target instead.

How To Reach 4,000 YouTube Watch Hours & Beyond

4,000 watch hours on YouTube isn’t nearly enough to pay the bills, so instead let’s look at how we can bring in enough watch hours and views to make something of an income. To do this from scratch, we’ll need to do a number of things to get ourselves on the radar.

Your biggest hurdle for this is the thousands of other creators that have already made a name for themselves on the platform across thousands of different niches. This means that, as a new YouTuber, your content is unlikely to be recommended amongst already established competitors in your niche. You could post videos without a strategy, and over time, you may see some success. But it would take years without a calculated approach.

What you’ll need to do is become an expert in your niche and follow trends closely. Your mission will be to create a video on a trending topic before anybody else does. What will happen then is that your content is likely to be recommended over others, even if it’s just for a short time because you’ll be the only authoritative source on that trending news topic. We will give two examples below to better explain this.

You’re a video game content creator: A rumor circulates online that a new item is being added to the latest Call of Duty game. You research it, find the details, and manage to create and publish a video about this topic before anybody else.

You’re a sports news channel:  A rumor appears online that a soccer player is about to transfer to a new team in a record-breaking deal. You find the details and report on it. You post your video before any of the bigger channels have a chance to.

The best result here will be that your video appears on the front page of Google for searches on the covered topic, and that will boost your views on YouTube itself. Similarly, any searches within YouTube itself will lead to your video too. YouTube’s algorithm will recognize the topic in your video as a trending topic, and it will boost it to viewers that are heavily invested in your niche.

This will include notifications sent out to YouTube mobile app users, even if they aren’t subscribed to you, your video appearing in “Up Next” and appearing on the YouTube homepage.

Of course, as soon as a bigger channel covers the topic, your video is likely to be outranked and you’ll lose that growth. But it won’t matter, you’ll already have captured enough of an audience to get some subscribers and views.

Next time you release a video, the majority of people that watched your last video will see it in various browse features on the platform, even if they didn’t subscribe. So all you need to do then is make sure your next video is engaging and has a great thumbnail.

So if you’ve read this far, you may be wondering. How do you find topics and create, edit and publish videos before anybody else? Well, you need to be heavily invested in your niche to be able to pick up on these stories. Usually they’ll hit pages like Reddit, Facebook, or Twitter before they get reported on by the big news sites and YouTube channels. This is true across a variety of niches on the internet.

If you aren’t heavily invested in the niche you’re covering, you won’t pick up on these stories, and at that point you have to ask yourself – are you creating videos because you like what you’re creating videos about? You’ll need to be passionate about it and the video creating process, otherwise you’ll hit burnout way before you hit success.

On top of this, you’ll need to learn how to edit fast and you’ll need a good upload speed – this will help you to publish your video before anybody else.

It will be more challenging if you aren’t creating videos about a niche that has newsworthy topics. For example, if you do more creative work like creating animated cartoons or fact-filled documentaries. If this is the case, you’ll need to be more creative about covering trending topics – once again the best way to pick up on this is to truly live and breathe whatever it is you want to create on YouTube.

The 4,000 Watch Hour Strategy Summarized

To summarize this in digestible information you can take away with you, we’d suggest doing the following:

Heavily invest yourself in your niche. Read everything online about it.

As soon as you see a trending topic, create a video to cover it.

Be fast, focus on light editing, and publish as soon as possible.

You’ll gather views and your next upload will be recommended to these viewers.

The next step is crucial: Create the best content you possibly can. Make it engaging, interesting, and create a good thumbnail.

Repeat this process every time a new trending topic emerges.

You aren’t always going to hit success with this strategy; it may take a few attempts. When it does work, it works wonders and it’s a successful way to break into any niche on YouTube.

In the meantime, you can continue to regularly upload content and use the videos that aren’t getting many views yet to experiment on your content, practice editing, and get proficient at making thumbnails. That way, when your time to shine comes, when you finally see that trending piece, you’ll be ready to pounce on it before anybody else can.

How To Increase The Text Size On Your Apple Watch

Apple’s smartwatch comes in two sizes for an increased chance of it fitting on your wrist. However, when it comes to the screen’s readability, there aren’t any differences between the 40mm and 44mm variants that are currently available. Therefore, if you want to increase the text size on your Apple Watch, you need to turn to its software customization.

At the moment (if your smartwatch and your smartphone run the latest software version), you have two methods to increase the text size on your Apple Watch. We cover both of those methods, which are equally quick and straightforward, below.

Increase the Text Size on an Apple Watch Using an iPhone

The Watch app on your iPhone manages pretty much every single aspect of your smartwatch. Therefore, it doesn’t come as a surprise that you can use it to adjust the text size as well. Here’s how that is done.

1. Open the Watch app on your smartphone. Make sure to select the “My Watch” tab and ensure that the correct Apple Watch is set. (You should see your watch’s name at the top).

2. Then, scroll down until you see the “Display & Brightness” group of settings. Tap to enter this group of settings.

3. At this moment, you should see a couple of sliders. Pay attention to the one next to “Text Size.” This is where you can increase or decrease the text size on your Apple Watch with six levels available. By default, the text size on your Apple Watch will be on the fourth level, which gives you space to make things bigger. Adjust the slider as you see fit.

4. Just below the “Text Size” slider, you will see the option to make the text on your Apple Watch bold. We have to note that enabling this slider has a dramatic effect, making it very useful if you’re having a hard time navigating your smartwatch.

That’s it! There’s no need to save or apply any of your changes, as the Watch app will do that for you. Exit the Watch app on your iPhone, and you should see your changes reflected on your Apple Watch.

Increase the Text Size via the Watch Itself

Aside from doing so using your iPhone, you can make the changes directly on your Apple Watch. Go through the following steps.

1. Press the “Digital Crown” on your Apple Watch to access its main menu. You should see an array of icons leading to individual apps. Tap on “Settings.”

2. Use your finger or the Digital Crown to scroll down until you see “Display & Brightness.” Tap on this group of customizations to reveal what hides behind.

3. Scroll just a bit down and tap on “Text Size.” You will see a green bar that allows you to choose from six different levels of text size.

4. Feel free to use the “Digital Crown” or the “Aa” virtual buttons to change your Apple Watch’s text size. Once you’re happy with your selection, tap on the arrow button in the top-left corner to go back one step in the Settings app.

5. We also recommend checking whether making the text bolder could make a difference. (It usually does.) You can find this option just below the “Text Size” button. It comes as a simple ON/OFF switch, and you can preview the results immediately.

That’s it! You are now free to exit the Settings app (done by pressing the Digital Crown) and return to your main watch face. Feel free to take a look around your Apple Watch and see whether you need to readjust its text size a bit more.

Now that you’ve learned how to increase the text size on your Apple Watch, if you’d like to learn a couple more things, here are you some recommendations. First, check out our beginner’s guide to navigating your Apple Watch. Then, follow it with how to change your move, exercise, and stand goals on your smartwatch.

How To Measure Heart Rate Variability (Hrv) On Apple Watch

Things to know before measuring HRV on your Apple Watch in watchOS 9:

HRV is supported by Apple Watch Series 4 and later

The user must be 18 years and older

Measuring your Heart Rate Variability using the Apple Watch can provide crucial insights concerning your heart rate and well-being. HRV is an important indicator of your autonomic nervous system (ANS) – the part of your nervous system that controls functions like breathing, heart rate, and digestion.

By tracking this critical metric, it is possible to detect changes in your body’s stress levels and diagnose changes in health or energy. In this guide, I’ll give insights on tracking your HRV levels from Apple Watch.

Why is Heart Rate Variability important?

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is a term used to describe the variation in time between each heartbeat. The measurement of HRV has become a popular way to track overall health and wellness, and the Apple Watch is one device that can help you do so.

HRV can also be used as a way to measure progress when it comes to exercise and physical fitness. Training with a heart rate monitor can help athletes track their progress and reach their goals. It can help inform decisions about the intensity and duration of exercise, as well as help identify signs of fatigue and overtraining.

It can also detect changes in the body’s response to stress and physical strain, leading to more accurate diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions.

Overall, HRV is a valuable tool for assessing overall health and fitness, detecting changes in response to stress, and monitoring progress in physical fitness.

How to monitor your heart rate variability on Apple Watch

Before you start the breathing exercise, make yourself comfortable and relax thoroughly.

Access the Mindfulness app from your Apple Watch.

Follow instructions as displayed. You will see options to inhale and exhale.

The following interface will reveal your heart rate in Beats Per Minute (BPM) correspondingly.

The timer for this exercise will be set for 1 minute by default. However, you can change it by tapping the three dots icon opposite the breathe logo→ Duration→ Set your timer accordingly.

Note: All the notifications will be muted on your Apple Watch once the session starts to help you concentrate. If you go out of your way to receive incoming calls or make sudden movements, your session will automatically end, and you’ll have to start the process again.

How to view HRV readings on iPhone

If you want a detailed representation of your heartbeat reading, you can get it from your iPhone by adhering to a few simple steps:

Open the Health app on your iPhone.

Tap the Browse option located on the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Select the Heart option under Health Categories.

Now, you can view detailed infographics of your heart status. The readings are categorized into Days, Weeks, Months, 6 months, and years.

Following these steps, you can easily record and manage multiple heart readings at the same time without having to worry about losing data from any spontaneous session.

Factors that affect HRV measurement accuracy

The relationship between heart rate and respiration is the measurement of heart rate variability authorized to provide valuable insight into many health aspects. However, several factors can affect the accuracy of HRV measurements:

To ensure accurate readings, it’s best to perform the measurement in a quiet, comfortable room with minimal external noise and an ideal temperature.

Any movements such as eating, drinking, or smoking before or during the measurement can also affect the accuracy of the HRV measurement.

It’s best to measure HRV with a continuous recording over several minutes. This will give a better average and provide a more accurate picture of the overall HRV.

A good HRV is important because it goes hand-in-hand with better overall health. It can be used to measure stress levels and can help with exercise recovery and performance. On the contrary, a low HRV has been associated with an elevated risk of heart disease and other health problems.

How to turn on the heart rate monitor on Apple Watch?

To enable heart rate measurements in Apple Watch, open the Settings app on your watch, and select Privacy→ Heart Rate. Make sure that Heart Rate is turned on.

Does Apple Watch accurately measure HRV?

Yes, the apple watch is capable of accurately measuring HRV using its built-in heart rate sensors and various health monitoring features like zone tracking. Nonetheless, it’s important to note that Apple Watch is not medical equipment and should not be relied on for high-end diagnoses or treatment. Any concerns should be discussed with a medical professional.

It’s that simple!!!

The Apple Watch’s built-in heart rate monitor and the health app on iPhone make it very easy for you to keep account of your heart readings. It is important to remember to take frequent readings and to consult a doctor if you are concerned about your heart health.

With regular monitoring of your HRV, you can make sure that your body is functioning at its optimal level. Follow our guide for more such Apple Watch tips and tricks.

How To Watch Cricket World Cup: England Vs New Zealand

‘how to watch’ section), how to catch highlights after the action’s finished, and how to listen live on the radio. For the big Test series after the cup’s finished, see How to watch England vs Australia cricket live.

The next match is the big one:

14 July (10.30am): FINAL: ENGLAND vs New Zealand (Lord’s, London) – Live on Channel 4 (or More4 while the British Grand Prix is on), Sky One, Sky Sports Cricket World Cup and Sky Sports Main Event from 9am

When does the Cricket World Cup take place?

From the opening match on 30 May to the final on 14 July. (Full schedule here.)

How many games are there?

There are 45 games in the Cricket World Cup group stage (in which every team plays every other team), then the two semi-finals and the final, for a total of 48.

That doesn’t appear to include the usual grim third-place playoff you get before most world cup finals, so we guess they’re not doing that.

Which channel will broadcast the Cricket World Cup 2023?

Sky Sports Cricket has the live coverage rights in the UK and Ireland, while Channel 4 has the UK highlights (although there are plenty of other ways to watch highlights, Australia: Nine Network, Fox Sports Bangladesh: Bangladesh Television, Gaza TV and Star Sports Canada: Asian Television Network, plus chúng tôi web streaming Europe (Except UK & Ireland): chúng tôi web streaming Hong Kong: Star Cricket India: Star Sports, DD Sports, plus chúng tôi web streaming New Zealand: Sky Sport Pakistan: Ten Sports Pakistan, PTV Sports Singapore: Star Cricket Sri Lanka: Star Sports, Dialog TV, plus chúng tôi web streaming South Africa: SuperSport How to watch the Cricket World Cup 2023 in the UK

The final is being broadcast simultaneously on Channel 4, Sky One, Sky Sports Cricket World Cup (the rebranded version of what had been known previously as Sky Sports Cricket) and Sky Sports Main Event. The Channel 4 coverage will be interrupted partway through for the British Grand Prix, at which point coverage will switch temporarily to More4.

Channel 4 and More4 are free-to-air channels that can be accessed via a Freeview box or for £23 per month – or, as part of a limited-time offer to coincide with the Cricket World Cup and the Ashes, you can just add Sky Sports Cricket for £10 a month.

If you’re a Sky newcomer a basic package starts at £22 per month. Sky Sports Cricket then costs an extra £10 on top of that for a selection of sports, or £23 for the lot.

Sky Q service, which starts at £13 per month (for the first 18 months – price will increase afterwards) and adds additional features. Have a look at our guide to Sky Q pricing, bundles and features to read about those, or jump straight to the day pass costs £8.99; a week pass is £14.99; and the month pass will normally set you back £33.99 and roll on to the next month unless cancelled. (There’s also a mobile pass for £5.99 per month, but avoid this like the plague – it’s great for football, NBA, rugby and horse racing, but doesn’t include cricket.)

However, until 9 June 2023 you can sign up to NordVPN is our top recommendation, but our best VPN chart rounds up several excellent alternatives that may be a better fit for you in terms of features and pricing.

How to watch free highlights

As mentioned, Channel 4 has the rights to show highlights in the UK and will broadcast these on the evening of each match, likely around midnight – you get around an hour per day, regardless of whether one or two matches were played, but it’s still by far the most in-depth highlights package available for free. You can catch up with any episodes you’ve missed the ICC YouTube page has shortish highlights (around 5 minutes) of each World Cup match. There will be unofficial highlights packages too if you’re prepared to search through all the cricket spam on YouTube. (We link to YouTube highlights of each completed match in the schedule section.)

The official Cricket World Cup website has a video section with highlights of England vs South Africa and other games.

Finally, Twitter is an excellent source of brief highlights in almost real time. We follow four main accounts for this – England Cricket, Sky Sports Cricket, Wisden and Cricingif – but bear in mind that the TV rights vary and you may need to adapt on the fly. Check the Test Match Special service, which is available online and on digital via BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra.
