Mais l’histoire ne s’arrête pas là. Depuis son retrait, des rumeurs circulent selon lesquelles la firme aurait l’intention de lancer une nouvelle version de son iMac Pro qui marquerait aussi le retour de l’iMac 27 pouces.

Capacités graphiquesComme pour le processeur, nous pouvons nous faire une idée de ce que les GPU M1 Pro, M1 Max et M1 Ultra d’Apple pourraient apporter à l’iMac.
Le M1 Pro propose un GPU à 14 ou 16 cœurs (14 cœurs sur l’entrée de gamme). Apple affirme que les performances sont jusqu’à deux fois plus rapides que celles du M1 pour cette puce. La société affirme également que le GPU est jusqu’à 7 fois plus rapide que les graphiques intégrés sur la dernière puce à 8 cœurs d’un ordinateur portable.
Le GPU M1 Max est encore plus performant avec ses 32 cœurs. Dans ce cas, Apple affirme que les performances graphiques sont jusqu’à 4 fois plus rapides que celles de la puce M1.
Quant au M1 Ultra, qui offre un GPU à 64 cœurs, Apple a révélé qu’il offrait des performances GPU 80 % plus rapides que celles du Mac Pro équipé de la carte Radeon Pro W69 00X, qui est la carte graphique la plus rapide proposée pour le Mac Pro 2023.
RAMLe M2 Pro prend en charge jusqu’à 32 Go de RAM tandis que le M2 Max jusqu’à 96 Go de mémoire unifiée. C’est moins que les 128 Go de RAM de l’iMac 27 pouces.
Une limitation de la RAM d’Apple est qu’elle ne pourra pas être mise à niveau par l’utilisateur. L’iMac 27 pouces avait des emplacements RAM accessibles par l’utilisateur. Avec le silicium d’Apple, la RAM, correctement appelée mémoire unifiée, est intégrée au SoC, elle n’est donc pas évolutive par l’utilisateur.

Founded in 1958 by audio engineer Bill Putnam, Sr., Universal Audio is well-known in the pro audio world for manufacturing top-shelf outboard gear (preamps, compressors, and the like) and for the best-in-class audio converters found in its Apollo line of interfaces. In late 2023, the company announced its new Volt series, which aims to deliver UA’s sought-after analog sound and high-quality conversion in its most affordable and travel-friendly audio interfaces. I recently spent some time on the road recording and traveling with the Universal Audio Volt 2, a 2-input/2-output model that concentrates on providing the cleanest signal in a compact form factor. Here are my thoughts on the interface’s sound, design, and workflow to assess how it stacks up against similar USB interfaces in its price range.
The Universal Audio Volt 2’s designThe Volt series runs the gamut in size and price, from the 1-input/2-output Volt 1 at $139 to the 4-input/4-output Volt 476P at $469. While each of the Volt interfaces is bus-powered via USB-C and includes a unique “vintage” tonal option—more on that later—a few of the models also include a built-in FET compressor styled after the company’s 1176LN Compressor, a relatively loud and bright-sounding compressor capable of producing responsive, transparent signal leveling but costing several thousand dollars. The Universal Audio Volt 2‘s distinguishing feature, however, is its panache and portability: its clean rectangular chassis measures roughly 7 x 5 x 2 inches, it weighs just 1.4 pounds, and it requires no wall wart thanks to its USB-C bus-powered design.
From a design standpoint, the Volt 2 significantly improves on Universal Audio’s last portable offering, the 6 x 6 x 3-inch, 2.4-pound Apollo Twin X, which requires wall power. The Volt 2’s control panel is also organized in a straightforward and easy-to-use manner, with most of the gain controls and monitoring options clearly labeled and placed alongside the interface’s two combo XLR/¼-inch inputs, which accept mic, instrument, and line level signals. A few backlit buttons offer access to 48-volt phantom power, instrument signal selection, and the Volt’s distinctive “vintage” mode, which engages solid-state electronics to add soft clipping and warm saturation to the input signals in the style of the Universal Audio Solo 610 Tube Preamp.
Like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, PreSonus AudioBox GO (which I reviewed in 2023), and other similarly-sized 2-in/2-out USB interfaces, the Volt 2 features a single 48-volt phantom power toggle that sends voltage to both inputs simultaneously. This won’t pose a problem for most users, but this limitation is something to keep in mind if you’re using vintage ribbon mics or other equipment that may be damaged by phantom power. On the conversion side, the Volt 2 features an impressive max audio conversion rate of 24-bit/192kHz, matching that of Universal Audio’s flagship Apollo line of interfaces and allowing users to record extremely high-fidelity audio with a very small footprint.
One significant design limitation of the Volt 2 is its lack of onboard DSP processing, which is required to run Universal Audio’s vast library of over 200 plugins. While none of the interfaces in the Volt series can run Universal Audio’s plugins, this speaks to a larger caveat in the company’s ecosystem; to run most UAD plugins, you need an Apollo-series interface or an external UAD accelerator. This is somewhat remedied yet further convoluted by the recent introduction of UAD Spark. This new subscription service offers access to around 20 of the company’s plugins without an Apollo interface or other external processors. Long story short: you’ll save a lot of money opting for a Volt-series interface over an Apollo, but you won’t be able to use it to run most of Universal Audio’s plugins.

Getting started with the Universal Audio Volt 2Setting up the UA Volt 2 for recording is a breeze thanks to its bus-powered design. To get started, I removed the interface from its packaging, unpacked the included USB-C cable, and connected the Volt 2 to a USB port on my MacBook Pro. The Volt 2 immediately powered on and appeared as an available device for audio input and output in Logic Pro, my preferred digital audio workstation. If you’re running the Volt 2 into an older USB hub or want to conserve battery on your device, an included 5VDC-to-USB connector allows you to power the interface with your own USB-to-wall power adapter.
I primarily tested the Volt 2 while traveling, which required that I set it up and pack it away in several different hotel rooms with workspaces of varying sizes. Next to a 13-inch laptop, the Volt 2 is a perfectly-sized interface for assembling a lean and mean mobile recording rig, and because it doesn’t require wall power, it’s easy to set up pretty much anywhere. While on the road, I only had an electric guitar and bass at my disposal for recording, both of which I connected directly to one of the Volt 2’s 1/4-inch instrument inputs while monitoring through the interface’s headphone output using a pair of KRK KNS 8400 over-ear headphones. I also used the Volt 2’s direct monitoring feature, which offers latency-free monitoring of the input signals via a front panel switch to ensure a natural and comfortable performance experience.
Suppose you’re setting up the Volt 2 as part of a larger studio setup. In that case, the interface features left and right TRS outputs on its rear panel for connecting to studio monitors and two MIDI ports for connecting older synths and other MIDI-compatible devices. Some smaller two-preamp interfaces like the Apollo Twin include ADAT to allow users to expand their rigs with additional inputs and outputs. While I would have liked to see this feature included in the Volt instead of the older and less commonly used MIDI connectors, it would likely mean a significant increase in cost.
The Universal Audio Volt 2’s soundThe UA Volt line promises clear high-resolution audio conversion that follows in the footsteps of the company’s industry-standard Apollo line, and the Volt 2 stacks up very well upon comparison. Compared to audio recorded with similar two-input interfaces, the Volt 2 sounds distinctly “open” in its high-frequency range with a relatively detailed midrange that doesn’t suffer from much of the obscure and “muddy” character that is often a hallmark of its price range. In these respects, the converters in the Volt 2 sound remarkably close to those in the Apollo, though I found the low mids in the Apollo converters to be slightly more nuanced and focused. While these differences are relatively minor, this effect can sometimes compound when multitracking and may create extra mixing work on the back end.
The Volt 2’s unique “vintage” feature also adds another level of creative flexibility to the equation, and it was great to have this option while traveling with limited gear. With the mode engaged, the Volt’s inputs sound distinctly analog and old-school, replacing its clean and pristine default sound with warm, round, saturated tone. The vintage mode also engages a soft clipper to flatten peaks in the input signal in a behavior similar to analog tubes, lending a character that’s particularly great for early rock and Motown-esque bass and guitar tones. While it’s probably not a one-size-fits-all sound, the vintage mode is killer for adding an extra level of character and “glue” to minimalist demo recordings and overdubs.

So, who should buy the Universal Audio Volt 2?The Volt 2 features some of the clearest and most musical-sounding converters I’ve tested in its price range. If you’re in the market for a simple two-input travel interface, you’d be hard-pressed to do better. Its vintage preamp option is also incredibly versatile. It adds a distinctly pleasing “pre-mixed” analog quality to input sources, saving time on mixing and bouncing, particularly when recording demos or overdubs. I wish that the Volt 2 included ADAT or S/PDIF for adding additional inputs instead of MIDI—the tiny, forward-facing design of the Volt 2 seems at odds with everything that old and bulky MIDI gear stands for—and, unfortunately, the interface can’t run UAD plugins. Still, if you can look past these design limitations, the Universal Audio Volt 2 is an incredibly flexible and relatively affordable travel interface with the potential to deliver studio-quality recordings on the go.

Our VerdictThe OnePlus Buds Pro 2 are very good true wireless earbuds with superb noise cancelling and above average bass. They’re a well-priced option if you have an Android phone.
Although they have only been popular for the last five years or so, wireless earbuds are now so ubiquitous it’s difficult to know where to begin when buying a pair (unless you just go and buy AirPods, of course).
The bottom line with the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 is they are some of the best wireless earbuds for under $200/£200/€200, with features you don’t normally find at this price range such as superb active noise cancelling (ANC) and Hi-Res Audio support.
The successor to the OnePlus Buds Pro feel a little cheaply made and I experienced some connection issues but judged on their sound quality and ANC the Buds Pro 2 are a success.

The Buds Pro 2’s slightly cheap looking and feeling plastic case flips up to reveal black buds that are made from matt plastic. The buds pick up surface scuffs easily, as does the case. But at 4.9g per bud they are very lightweight and comfortable to wear.
Each bud has a shiny metal accent on the stem to spice up the look a bit, with a couple of grilles on the head of the buds, mics on the bottom of each stem, and two silver contacts for charging in the case.
This is standard fare for earbuds and the case is quite compact, hardly noticeable even in a front trouser pocket. My review unit was black but you can also get green, the colours matching the two hues of OnePlus 11 phone.

I found the best fit with the small size silicone ear tips, which are included with medium and large sizes too. OnePlus has sensibly opted for slightly flatter oval shaped tips that stay in my ears better than circular ones.
The buds snap magnetically flat into the case to charge, with a single USB-C port on the case to charge the whole package. The buds are IP55 water and dust resistant, so can withstand light rain but not much else beyond that if you want to be safe.

The Buds Pro 2 sound phenomenally good out of the box, and I became more impressed the more I used them. They have dual 11mm and 6mm drivers co-designed by audio company Dynaudio, a partnership that appears to have paid off.
They have a very good, punchy bass response that doesn’t overpower the mix, giving many songs the drive that the original recording had but is lost on lesser earphones.
Days by Television shines with good separation of the guitar arpeggios and the bass guitar well represented. It’s a busy song, but the buds offer a distinct soundstage.
The bass guitar, drums and horns on Jazz on the Autobahn by The Felice Brothers are well produced with the right emphasis on all the right frequencies and with good stereo field.

Kim Deal’s Wish I Was pulses with its intended menace while the guitars on Chaise Longue by Wet Leg punch through the mix where intended. Not all wireless earbuds are this clear and well-calibrated for the compressed Spotify streams I tested them with and via which most people will be listening to them.
The buds can also get incredibly loud – almost too loud. The high end of One More Time by Daft Punk got on the verge of grating, but the buds gave a good thud to the track despite being at the edge of their capabilities with such a full mix.
The Buds Pro 2 sound phenomenally good
Dipping into some Beethoven was also not out of the question with the Buds Pro 2 showing considered balance and warmth with a recording of Piano Sonata No. 14 in C Sharp Minor. I was impressed with how many genres the Buds Pro 2 handle well, perhaps electronic music aside as mentioned.
The buds’ secret weapon is their Hi-Res audio playback compatibility thanks to the LHDC 4.0 lossless codec (OnePlus says an update to 5.0 will come soon). At their time of release in February 2023 this is still relatively rare for wireless earbuds, and partly because you need to pair them with a compatible playback device and file formats.
I tested them with the compatible OnePlus 11 and some of my favourite tracks in locally stored FLAC format. REM songs Harborcoat and So. Central Rain sounded incredible, with almost as much roundness and clarity as I found them when played on a dedicated Sony Walkman player with good quality wired in-ear monitors.

The downside is LHDC is a less common codec for phones to be compatible with than LDAC. You’ll need to check if your phone supports LHDC, or the Buds Pro 2 won’t play back in hi-res. Aside from the OnePlus 11, the Oppo Find X5 Pro supports it, but not many other popular phones. Check the specs of your phone before you buy the buds or you’ll be disappointed.
The same hardware match up limitations apply to the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, which are limited to hi-res only on Samsung phones.
Overall, the Buds Pro 2 are powerful, punchy earbuds with the bonus of Hi-Res support, futureproofing them for when such a feature, hopefully, becomes more widely available on popular streaming platforms.
Despite this, I came across some connection issues. The buds would sporadically pause audio in both Spotify and Pocket Casts, particularly when I used them with a Samsung Galaxy phone, but it also happened with the OnePlus 11 regardless.
I had to take my phone out to press play again, as the bug meant the squeezable stems became momentarily unresponsive to pressing, which usually plays or pauses.
It happened often enough in my testing that I’m confident this is a bug. Hopefully, it can be fixed with a software update but for now, it’s putting me off fully recommending them.

The noise cancelling on the buds is very good. The only pairs I’ve personally used that I think best the OnePlus are Apple’s second-gen AirPods Pro and the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds 2. Sony’s WF-100XM4 are also great, but I struggled with the fit.
Those competitors truly shut the world out as well as the best over-ear ANC headphones can. OnePlus is nearly there though, which is mightily impressive considering their price.
On a packed London Underground train, I could hear all the details of my favourite Interpol album with only the uncancellable rattle of the loudest rail noises on the capital’s Tube system hovering in the background – very dampened though.

You can select from mild, moderate, and max levels of cancellation or set the buds to smart mode to sense which is best. I tended to leave them on smart mode, so impressive is the effect. There’s also a transparency mode for listening to the world around you when you’re wearing the buds.
Finding the controls for the buds is a pain. Even on the same-brand OnePlus 11 it’s not obvious you must tap through to the controls via the Bluetooth settings menu. On other Android phones, you must download the HeyMelody app, which isn’t even OnePlus branded and is not pushed to the user by the software.
You can also select from EQ presets or create your own to tailor the sound profile. The buds are also capable of spatial audio but without many compatible Android apps using the technology yet it was a little difficult to test. OnePlus says it works with any dual-channel audio.

To test I had to play songs then go into the buds’ settings and turn on the function. It made songs sound very tinny and they would frequently distort. This is likely because the buds and phone (running Android 13) is trying to create a spatial reproduction of a song that is a compressed stereo stream. Apple is having more success with its own Spatial Audio for Apple Music because the tracks are only compatible when they have been actually mastered for the 3D effect.
I appreciate the tracks I tried weren’t necessarily compatible but when you give users the option to use a function on audio it’s not designed for then you’ll get people (like me) using it incorrectly and have a bad experience.
To control playback audio playback, OnePlus has nabbed the AirPods Pro’s squeezable stem. It works well, but like Apple’s buds, you can’t control volume without whipping your phone or smartwatch out. You can also skip tracks and switch between ANC and transparency modes, or invoke a voice assistant.
Also the in-ear detection is so unreliable that I was convinced the buds didn’t have the feature. It’s meant to pause audio when you take one bud out of your ear and resumes it when you pop it back. It worked very infrequently compared to competing products such as the Google Pixel Buds Pro where it works flawlessly.

I never ran out of battery in one sitting with the buds but I used them how I normally use buds – for an hour or so at a time and never for eight hours straight without a break.
The case (and buds) can be charged for 10 minutes to get three hours of playback, which is a neat feature, and the case can recharge on a Qi wireless charging pad too.
Price & availabilityThe OnePlus Buds Pro 2 cost $179/£179/€179 which is a very good price considering their sound quality and noise cancelling chops alone.
You can buy them direct from OnePlus in the US, UK and Europe.
The buds are less than the $249/£249/€299 second-gen Apple AirPods Pro by some distance, and a much better pick if you use an Android phone. They also undercut the £250/$280 Sony WF-1000XM4 and $299/£279.95/€299.95 Bose QuietComfort Earbuds 2, suggesting the OnePlus aren’t truly premium earbuds – but I think they hold their own, particularly with their excellent ANC and hi-res audio support.
Samsung’s Buds 2 Pro also support hi-res (with the right set up) at $229/£219/€229.
You can find the Sony for about the price of the OnePlus these days though, which I would recommend for their superior sound, ANC and smart features. But if you prefer the AirPod-esque OnePlus design then you should go for the Buds Pro 2 – I have small ears and they fit me much better than the Sony.

VerdictOnePlus has a great product in the Buds Pro 2. They have good universal fit, superb ANC, excellently tuned audio with impressive bass response and good battery life to boot.
Hi-Res support also ensures they are future-proofed for the still-emerging technology (in terms of Hi-Res wireless audio at least) but you must make sure your phone supports the LHDC standard, and I’d ignore using the spatial audio feature at all until that standard has also matured.
The wireless earbuds market is a crowded place but if you use an Android phone then the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 are an excellent option. They have surprised me by being better than their price tag suggests and can hold a candle to products by audio titans Sony and Bose for around $100/£100/€100 RRP less.
