Suggested January 2024 Os X Pages Easter Egg: Access Steve Jobs’ Speeches In Pages

When Steve Jobs passed away back in 2011, many thought that Apple would immediately fall apart. While that didn’t happen, it doesn’t mean that the company isn’t missing its iconic leader. Had Jobs survived his battle with cancer, he would be 59 years old this year (2014), and there are plenty of people remembering him, particularly Apple’s developers.

Jobs was known for his famous personality worldwide, with many institutes having invited him to deliver speeches and inspire others with his well-chosen words. One of his most famous speeches, named “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”, is the one he delivered to the Stanford University graduating class of 2005. This speech can be found at various locations on the net, but we’ve also included a link to its video below for you to see:

Note: You’ll need Pages for OS X installed to follow this guide.

Have your Mac read the speech out to you

If you are not keen in reading it, you can get your Mac to read out the speech with the “say” command. Simply copy the following command in Terminal, and the contents of the text file will be spoken with the system’s default text-to-speech voice:

Conclusion

Agree with me or not, Steve Jobs was arguably one of the most famous tech pioneers of his time. He created Apple, a company that today makes tech products that are widely used all around the world. Using the methods above, you can easily access two of Steve Jobs’ most iconic speeches in OS X. And most importantly, “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.”

How To Number Pages In Word

Last Updated on May 16, 2023

Whether you are compiling a report, working on your novel, or creating correspondence, it is important that you are able to navigate your way through your Word document quickly and easily, as well as find the information that you need without stress or delay.

1

How To Number Your Pages in Word

There are a number of simple steps to help you number your page in word, and these are as follows:

Step

1

Page number

Head to the Insert tab on the top ribbon, and select the “Page Number” option – this is located in the Header and Footer section of the ribbon.

Step

2

Place pages

A drop-down menu will appear, and this offers a number of options regarding the placement of the page numbers – you can opt to place them in the top right of your page, in the bottom center, or in another location of your choice.

You will be presented with a gallery, which demonstrates how the different options will look on your page – hover over each image in the gallery to see an example in real-time.

Use this section to play with a few different formats until you find the one that is the best fit for your document.

Step

3

Add numbers

If you choose to add the page numbers to the top or bottom of your page, this will automatically open the header or footer section of the page, depending on your choice.

You will then be able to add many additions around these numbers as needed – for example, adding logos, titles, or other details that may be relevant to your document.

Step

4

Close header & footer

This is a fast, easy and effective way to ensure that page numbers are added automatically to your document, and reduces the arduous task of having to go through and manually add page numbers to each of the pages – this is a chore that nobody wants to be faced with.

By using the automatic feature, you can ensure that each page is numbered and that this is done consistently throughout the entire document, offering a neat and professional finish.

Other Options

In some cases, you may not want total uniformity across each page and may need to alter or adjust specific pages or sections. Some of the most common adjustments include:

2

Omitting the Page Number From The Title Page

If you have a title page set as the first page, you may wish to omit the page number, and use a new header or footer. Fortunately, this is a simple process:

Step

1

Step

2

Different first page

This will remove the standard header and footer from the title page, and you can leave this blank, or add information that is specific to that page.

You also have the option to alter the header and footer for the first page of each new section if required, for example, by adding chapter headings.

To achieve this, simply place the insertion point somewhere in the new section – the first page of the new section you are creating – and select the option for “Different First Page”.

3

Numbering Odd And Even Pages Differently

You may also need to number odd and even pages slightly differently – this tends to be an option when you are creating a book, placing the page number on the left on even pages, and on the right on odd pages, and ensuring that the number can be read when the book is bound.

The document will then be automatically formatted to have odd and even page numbers placed in a “book” format, and you can make the adjustments required.

4

Using Different Numbers and Formats For Different Sections

In some documents, you may wish to use different formats and numbers for different sections – for example, Roman numerals for the table of contents and Arabic numerals for the main section of the document and page numbers.

This option can be achieved by dividing your document into sections – place the insertion point at the start of your document, and select the Layout tab on the Ribbon.

Select the “Breaks” tab, and select the “Next Page” tab in the drop-down menu. This will create a section break, with a new section beginning on the next page, and you can change the format of page numbers in each section.

Step

1

Design button

Select the “Link to Previous” button – this will break the link to the previous section and allow you to start again.

Step

2

Adjust page numbers

Step

3

Number format

A window will appear – head to the “Number Format” drop-down menu, and choose the types of numbers you want to use for this section.

Step

4

Step

5

Format page numbers

Choose “Start At”, and place a “1” in the box on the right. This sets the first page of your new section.

This can be repeated as often as needed for the sections that you require for your document.

Final Thoughts

These options should help you get started with numbering your document and will ensure that you achieve the style and format that you need for each project, keeping things ordered, efficient and accessible.

We print documents every day, and sometimes your printer pulls too many pages while printing. This is usually not a big problem, but it can be quite annoying, so today we’re going to show you how to fix it.

Printer issues can be a problem, and speaking of printing issues, here are some similar issues that users reported:

Brother printer grabs multiple sheets, eating paper – This issue can occur due to your rollers. Sometimes the rollers might be worn out and the only way to fix the problem is to replace the rollers.

Epson printer pulling multiple sheets – If your printer is pulling multiple sheets, the problem might be dampening foam. To fix the issue, you might have to replace this foam on your own or contact an expert.

Printer taking in too much paper – This problem can sometimes occur due to tasks in your printing queue. Simply remove other tasks and check if that solves your problem.

Canon printer feeds multiple sheets – Sometimes this problem can be caused by your rollers, and in order to fix the problem, you need to make them coarser on your own.

Printer pulls too many pages HP – Another cause for this issue can be your paper, so be sure that your paper isn’t damaged or damped.

Printer pulls too many pages, how to fix it? Solution 1 – Check your roller and paper

If printer pulls too many pages while printing, the issue is most likely your roller. Sometimes your printer roller can become smooth due to prolonged use and that cause this issue to appear.

The only way to fix this issue is to replace the roller. This isn’t always an easy task, especially if you don’t know how to do it, so you might want to take your printer to the repair shop and ask a professional to do it for you.

In addition, be sure to check your paper as well. Sometimes your paper can stick together especially in warm climates. The paper can become damp and that will cause it to stick to other paper. If that’s the case, be sure to dry your paper before you use it for printing in order to avoid this and other problems.

Solution 2 – Check your noise dampening foam

According to users, if the printer pulls too many pages, the issue can be your dampening foam. Sometimes this foam can deteriorate and become sticky.

This might be too complicated for an everyday user, so you might want to take your printer to the repair center and ask the professional to do it for you.

Solution 3 – Make your rubber paper grabber coarser

If you have problems with your printer, the issue might be the rubber paper grabber. Sometimes this rubber part can become smoother and cause the printer to pick up more paper than it needs to. To fix it, users are suggesting to make the rubber coarser by using a nail file.

Simply by making the rubber a bit coarser you might be able to fix the problem. Users reported that this DIY solution worked for them, so you might want to try it out. Keep in mind that this solution requires you to disassemble your printer, so if you’re not comfortable with that, or if your printer is still under warranty, perhaps you should take it to the repair center and ask a professional to repair it for you.

Solution 4 – Check your paper

If your printer pulls too many pages, it’s possible that the issue is your paper. Sometimes low-quality paper can cause this issue, so be sure that you’re using proper paper for printing. In addition, make sure that your printer is stored in a cool and dry place.

Lastly, do not reuse old paper that already has something printed on it. If the paper has any ink on it, that could make it slightly damp and cause it to stick with other paper. In addition, be sure to use paper that’s not damaged.

Expert tip:

In addition, make sure that your paper is properly aligned before printing. Lastly, do not use more than 25 sheets of paper at the time since that can cause printing issues. To avoid paper issues, you should use between 10 and 25 sheets of paper at a time.

If the problem is still there, perhaps you should try using a different brand of paper and check if that helps.

As you can see, these are some general paper guidelines, and in order to avoid issues with printing, we suggest that you follow them and examine your paper.

Solution 5 – Clean your rollers

Turn off your printer and disconnect it from the power outlet.

Now open the rear access door of the printer. Some printers have a knob, while others have a release tab.

If you have any paper stuck inside of the printer, be sure to remove it.

Now clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth. For the best results, use the distilled or bottled water to slightly moisten the cloth. Be sure to rotate the rollers in order to clean them from all sides.

Now you need to clean the bottom rollers. These rollers are hard to reach, so be sure to use a moist cotton swab to clean them.

After doing that, check the rollers on the rear access door and clean them if needed.

Wait for a couple of minutes for the rollers to dry. After the rollers are dry, put the rear access door and check if the problem is still there.

Solution 6 – Clear the print queue

After examining the hardware problems, it’s time to look at software issues that can cause this problem. If the printer pulls too many pages, it’s possible that the issue is caused by your print queue. Sometimes there might be multiple documents in the queue and that can lead to this issue. To fix the problem, you need to do the following:

Net Stop Spooler

del %systemroot%System32spoolprinters* /Q

Net Start Spooler

After running these commands, your printer queue should be completely cleared and the problem should be resolved.

Solution 7 – Disconnect your printer from your PC

If the printer pulls too many pages during printing, the issue might be caused by a temporary glitch. However, you might be able to fix the issue simply by disconnecting your printer from your PC and connecting it to a different USB port.

After doing that, the issue should be resolved. In addition to disconnecting the printer from the PC, you might want to disconnect it from the power outlet and check if that helps.

Printing problems can be quite annoying, and if your printer pulls too many pages, the issue is usually related to your hardware. However, we hope that you’ll manage to fix this problem using one of our solutions.

Change File Permissions In Mac Os X

You can instantly change file permissions in Mac OS X without getting your hands dirty in the command line by using the Finder instead. All you need to do is access the “Get Info” panel for the file, folder, or application in question. These instructions demonstrate locating the file permissions manager, and how to adjust privileges for items found in Mac OS.

It’s worth mentioning that you can also use this trick to quickly view current file and folder permissions and ownership details in the Mac OS X Finder. To view permissions, just use the Get Info panel as described below but don’t make any modifications. Mac OS X calls permissions “Privileges”, but they mean the same thing.

How to Change File Permissions on Mac

This is the most user friendly way to view or adjust file permissions in Mac OS X, it works with anything found in the Finder file system, be it a file, binary, application, or a folder. Here’s what you’ll want to do:

Select the file or app in the Finder you want to edit permissions for

At the bottom of the Get Info window, you’ll see “Sharing & Permissions”, select the arrow to drop down the options

Adjust permissions* on a per user basis, the options being: read and write, read only, or no access

When finished, just close out of the Get Info window. The changes to permissions happen immediately as you select items from the privilege option dropdown menus.

Permission Types & Explanations of Limitations

The permissions options are fairly self-descriptive in their naming, but here’s a quick overview in case you’re new to the concepts on a file level:

Read & Write: The user can both read the file, and write to the file (make changes, modify the file, delete it, etc)

Read Only: The user can only read the file, and is therefor unable to make changes to the file

No Access: The user has no access to the file at all, meaning the user can not read the file or write to it

When you’re finished setting the desired permissions and privileges, close the Get Info window and the changes will take effect immediately.

Notice that you can’t make files executable through this the Get Info panels, you’ll still need to pull up the terminal for that.

One of our readers pointed out that you can use Get Info to adjust file permissions on remote files using the Mac OS X built-in FTP client, which is pretty convenient if you’re without a separate FTP app but you’re remotely needing to change privileges on something.

Generally speaking, if you’re not sure what to set, you shouldn’t mess around with file permissions since it can change the way a file or application responds to a given document. This is particularly true with system files and applications, as permissions can mean the difference between some apps working and some not. If you’re digging around because of frequent errors regarding access to files or ownership, try using the Recovery Mode method of repairing user permissions that works with Mac OS X 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, macOS 10.12, 10.11, 10.13, etc, which can usually sort out those problems automatically without any manual modification of files.

You can also modify permissions from the command line using the ‘chmod’ command followed by flags or sequences and a file name, but that’s really a topic for another article.

Five Seo Tips For Product Pages On Ecommerce Websites

Aimed at capturing a greater share of higher converting ‘long tail’ traffic

It’s surprising how often ecommerce sites neglect this dimension of SEO.

People tend to be distracted by the high volume head and middle keyword terms and forget to pay attention to the crucial keywords pertaining to the long tail.

Many sites succeed in capturing a fair amount of long tail traffic without paying particular attention to it. Nevertheless, it’s still important to capture as much of long tail traffic as possible because long tail traffic converts better than head term traffic.

Tip 1 – Duplicate product content

Serve products on a single URL whenever possible.

A single URL may not be achievable because products might occupy multiple categories, giving them alternative URL directory paths. For example;

A diesel denim shirt would be best served as

instead of sitting in alternative categories where duplication can occur, such as

and

In this scenario, it’s best to use canonical tags (that’s another post in itself).

A duplicate content problem may also occur if there are multiple variants of the same product; for instance, when a product comes in different sizes and/or colours. A couple of options to combat this problem are:

Pros– Easier to implement, lessens duplicate content riskCons – Products aren’t as optimal for variant specific search terms

Serve on unique URLs – a specific page per product variant allows you to optimise for each colour, or other product variant. This method still carries a duplicate content risk because products are still too similar despite some differences, such as colour and size. However, you can still avoid triggering duplicate content filters by producing a unique product description for each variation to more strongly differentiate each page.Pros– More optimal product pagesCons – Difficult to administer / come up with unique descriptions

Tip 2 - Product naming conventions

Make sure SEO is ingrained in the build and considered by everyone who updates the website. It is particularly important to include the admin people who add new products to the database.

It is common practice for product names to be re-employed in titles, headings and other key SEO areas, so product names must be created with search users in mind.

For example, a dress colour may be described as ‘cobalt’, a description unlikely to reflect most of the search terms searchers use when trying to find a ‘blue dress’. Changing the dress colour to ‘cobalt blue’ is likely to support optimisation of all sorts of relevant long tail search terms.

Instil a set of characteristics that must form part of the product title; an example from ‘fashion’ might look like this;

Tip 3 – Product schema

Mark-up your products correctly using the schema found here.

You can also include review schema  and breadcrumb schema.

Tip 4 – Product templates

Apply the following best practice elements to your product template:

Unique Title

Unique Description

Breadcrumbs

Optimal heading

Friendly optimised URL’s

Unique product descriptions

Optimised alt tags on images

Tip 5 - XML sitemaps

Ecommerce sites generally have a large number of products, and therefore URL’s, within the site. It is vital to get the products indexed to capture the long tail. So, for SEO it is strongly recommended ecommerce sites submit all product URLs using XML sitemaps.

You can split your sitemaps up into the different categories and then bring them all together using a sitemap index file.

Here are some useful links to help you create search engine friendly sitemaps.

Once you have created your sitemaps, upload them to your domain and submit using Google webmaster tools.
