Both of the cards are improvements to the previous generation’s architecture. Both the Ada and RDNA 3 architectures aim to improve performance by up to 2x for both options.
The RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XT are both designed for 4K gaming. The flagship Navi 31 processor serves as the basis for the 7900 XT. It includes 84 Ray Tracing cores, 336 Texture Mapping Units (TMUs), 5,376 Streaming Processors, and 192 Render Output Units (ROPs).
It also has 20 GB of GDDR6 memory and a sizeable 320-bit bus. A 256-bit bus supports the 16 GB of GDDR6X VRAM that is included in the graphics card.

Both graphics cards were created with 4K gaming in mind. However, there are several areas where the RX 7900 XT excels. To start, the Team Red product is far less expensive. While the 4080 costs a hefty $1,199 premium for gamers, the 7900 XT is only $899.

Additionally, the AMD graphics card uses less energy. The RX 7900 XT can consume up to 300 W of electricity at maximum load. The RTX 4080 has a 350 W base TBP.
Some enthusiast-grade AIB models, such as the RTX 4080, will have higher TBP ratings. If the RTX 4080 was much quicker than what AMD has to offer, users might have been able to justify the additional cost and power consumption. Overall it is most likely the RX 7900 XT will be the better choice of GPU for you. With an expected performance higher for the 7900 XT with a much better price it is to be expected.

Interestingly, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT isn’t the absolute flagship of the graphics card generation. This is because there’s another high-performance card releasing as well, the more powerful RX 7900 XTX. If you want the absolute bleeding edge of video cards, then you can turn your attention to the brawnier sibling for even more power.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT will be available for purchase on December 13, 2023. This is considerably later than what some sources originally cited the release date to be, originally theorized to drop after the announcement itself.

This is a price point that was unexpected from the wider press. While people had the figure of $999 in mind, as was customary for the previous RDNA 2 frontrunner, AMD has made the decision to target gamers after a cheaper card. This is likely in direct response to the somewhat mixed reception of Nvidia’s two premium GPU offers both clocking in well over $1,000.
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT specsFortunately, there’s no need for rumors or speculation here. While the entire technical specs of the RX 7900 XT weren’t revealed, we do have a fair few details to go over, best summarized by the company itself:

As you can see, there’s 84 AMD RDNA 3 ray tracing cores, 2000 GHz Game Clock speeds, 20GB GDDR6 memory, and a 300 TDP. That’s a considerable amount of horsepower given the power draw here is lower than you would typically expect. What’s most interesting here, though, is the support for DisplayPort 2.1 meaning resolutions of up to 8K165, which is truly next-generation.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-Series GPUs, in particular, has been a hit. (If you go off sales alone the cards sold out in seconds, but we know this was due to bots and scalpers attempting to resell for much higher prices.) Despite some faulty and frankly disappointing launches, though, the 30-Series GPUs are still very much sought after. But which should you choose? We already had a look at the 3090 Vs the 3080 – the two higher-end cards from this launch – but what about those on a little bit more of a budget?
If for you, like many, the $1499 3090 isn’t realistic, or even necessary, you might be trying to choose between this year’s gaming flagship GPU (the 3080) or the more humble 3070. Like every comparison, there are a lot of factors to consider. We’ve broken them down into specifications, price, and purpose to work out which GPU – the 3070 or the 3080 – is the best value for your money. So let’s get into it.
Specifications
The 3070 can be compared, performance-wise, to the RTX 2080 Ti. For the same performance levels, the budget aspect of the 3070 makes it a great bargain. The 3070 does have less memory than the 3080, with 8GB compared to 10GB, but it also uses up considerably less power.
Still, at the same price point as the RTX 2080 Ti, the 3080 has double the performance and power of its predecessor, making it just as much of a bargain in its own right.
To be honest, the jump in quality between the 3070 and the 3080 is hardly significant compared with the jump from the 3080 to the 3090, and the price difference isn’t huge either. And both are based on NVIDIA’s latest Ampere architecture making them more efficient, powerful, and high-performance than ever. It really does depend on the use case, but we’ll get into that a little later.
The 3080 is geared towards 4K gaming, but the 3070 can handle both 4K and 1440p graphics. If you’re planning to invest in a 4K monitor, though, you might reap more benefits from the 3080. Still, both are equally capable of running just about any game on the market.
Price
When it comes to value for money, price point is obviously one of the most important factors. Annoyingly, though, the price difference between the 3070 and 3080 is nowhere near as big as the gap between the 3080 and 3090. With only $200 between the two (with the 3070 priced at $499 and the 3080 priced at $699), it makes this decision even more difficult.
Still, if you’re on a budget the 3070 is the perfect option. It would be wrong to say $200 doesn’t make a big difference and – especially compared to the RTX 2080, which has pretty much the same specs as the 3070 – it is a huge bargain. Especially since the 3070 is cheaper still than the 2080.
Again, using the 2080 as a marker for value for money brings around the same conclusion. The 3080, for the exact same price, brings double the power, performance, and overall quality. If you have an extra $200 to spare, we say, why not? But the 3070 is the perfect budget option.
Purpose
So, we touched on this a little bit earlier, but it’s a known fact that the use case is the most important factor when looking at which graphics card to purchase. The use cases between the 3090 and 3080 are much more clear cut though, so it is still a little difficult to say whether the 3070 or 3080 is best for you.
Personally, we think the 3080 is perfect for hardcore PC gamers, especially those looking to move into the 4K gaming sphere. If you already have a 4K monitor and you’re looking for a card with great specs that will last a few years, the 3080 will be ideal. If you need the creme de la creme of GPUs but aren’t able or willing to fork out over $1000, the 3080, again, is perfect for you.
The 3070 is for those who are just getting started with PC gaming, or who are looking to upgrade an old, outdated graphics card. The 3070 is the perfect budget option, so if you need the best graphics cards under $500, the 3070 is definitely for you. With the 3070, you’ll be able to play any game in amazing quality, and let’s not forget it can work for 4K displays, too. The 3070 is also a winner if your PSU can’t handle too much power as it has a considerably smaller consumption rate.
Final Thoughts
So there you have it. As we said, both of these GPUs are absolutely stellar; powerful, high quality, and better than ever before, there’s no wonder there was so much hype around the launch of the 30-Series. The RTX 3070 is the perfect budget-friendly GPU, while the RTX 3080 might better suit those more experienced in PC gaming. Either way, whichever you choose will have you onto a winner.

Nvidia RTX 3060 vs Intel Arc A770 LE: Price and availabilityThe stats: Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 carries an MSRP of $329, while the Arc A770 LE costs $349 at retail. (You can grab the 8GB version for $20 less, or the Arc A750 for $289 as well.)
Can you really find these GPUs at these prices? Not really, not even with the current soft market for graphics cards. The RTX 3060 can be found easily from many retailers in stock, but you’ll still be likely paying slightly more than the $329 MSRP retail.
My local Microcenter seemed to get roughly four or five units each of the A750 and A770, and that’s where I snapped up this Arc A770 16GB LE version for MSRP. Looking around as of today, they’ve fairly difficult to find in stock and seem to already have higher pricing on the secondhand marketplaces.
The win most definitely goes to the RTX 3060 for price and availability this round, as they’re readily available.

Nvidia RTX 3060 vs Intel Arc A770 LE: PerformanceThis is what everyone has been waiting for – what can Intel do against the established competition? Sometimes, it’s fantastic, punching well above its weight. Other times, it is endlessly frustrating, with performance issues and instability causing major woes. On the flip side, if you want to play DX11 games—which most legacy games and non-triple-A games use—it’s better to skip Arc, for now.

Let’s look at Watch Dogs Legion. Here, the A770 pulls an impressive lead over the RTX 3060, even at 1080p. Keep in mind “ReBar on” is crucial to squeeze performance from Intel’s GPU.
When Arc performs well, it certainly does so convincingly, especially if its with DX12 games. How about ray tracing performance? This has been a strong suit of Nvidia, and typically a challenge for AMD GPUs.

Ray tracing performance is impressive on the Arc when everything works in a stable fashion. They’ve been able to match or beat the RTX 3060 in many cases, such as in this Shadow of the Tomb Raider example.
Nvidia has a trick up its sleeve, however, in the form of their DLSS upscaling technology. This allows many games to run ray tracing at a much lower performance penalty while keeping higher frames rates. High fidelity visuals stay in check, too. Intel offers a similar option in the way of XeSS – but with much more limited game support at present.
Who wins the performance crown here? While Intel does pull an admittedly surprising lead in many titles when it does do well, even with ray tracing, the overall winner remains the RTX 3060 for one main reason: Consistency.
Unless you plan to play a very specific game where Arc excels, you’ll be better served by the mature drivers that accompany Nvidia’s GPUs for now, such as the RTX 3060. You will have a more consistent experience across games using DX11 and DX12. When we consider new technologies thrown in such as DLSS and ray tracing, Nvidia also has a more mature setup.
When Intel matures its drivers for Arc with stability improvements, the hardware can certainly prove very capable.
How about for content creators? GPU streaming has been an important performance facet to consider lately, and the Arc provides impressive AV1 encoders. Nvidia’s much more expensive RTX 40-series GPUs do so as well, but current-gen cards like the RTX 3060 lack those capabilities. For now, Arc is one of the best options for encoding. Some content creators, such as Linus Tech Tips, have even suggested to some it may be a good idea to run a second GPU in the form of an Intel Arc purely for this capability. While I don’t believe that’s a viable option for many, the increased encoding performance is certainly a point to keep an eye on for content creators.
Nvidia RTX 3060 vs Intel Arc A770 LE: Power and other things to knowThe GeForce RTX 3060 is rated to pull 170 watts, which is meager compared to the numbers that most GPUs are putting out now. The Intel Arc A770 pulls a heftier 225 watts due to its larger GPU die, but that’s still reasonable to cool. Both are typically compact enough to fit in most cases, so this should not be an issue.
The RTX 3060 will have much better compatibility with the older hardware that a gamer may use to accompany such a GPU. With Intel’s Arc, you need ReBar or Smart Access Memory, which is only available on newer platforms. You’ll need this for a good experience, or Arc performance will suffer considerably.

Verdict: Should you consider Intel’s Arc, or stick with the Nvidia option?It may be late, but Intel finally has entered as a competitor in the GPU space. Unfortunately, it comes with several serious issues that make it tough to recommend at this point.
First, let’s point to the positives. The Arc A770 pulls off some stunning surprise victories over Nvidia’s RTX 3060 (and even higher GeForce models) sometimes, in newer DX12 and Vulkan games. Even with ray-traced games, it impresses.
Secondly, Arc does try to do all the right extra things you want from a modern GPU – XESS upscaling, ray tracing, content creator perks, etc. It’s also nicely designed, in a package that shows care and GPU design with some attention to detail and build quality.
Here’s the bad news: Even if you wanted one, you’re going to have a tough time finding one for sale. It seems to have been quickly bought up by enthusiasts looking to tinker with it, and not gamers building their gaming PCs. Even with tough GPU markets, it seems to be a very limited release thus far.
The winner: Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060.

Sure, we’ve heard this story the last two years, but this time it’s different. The retail shelves are fully loaded with Nvidia GPUs such as the RTX 3060 close to MSRP. Some very worth competitors such as the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT are also knockin’ on the door with newly reduced prices. These are readily available, and in most cases, offer more consistent performance.
Availability aside, driver woes are still a major issue for these debut Arc graphics cards. Will first-gen Arc age like “Fine Wine,” as often was said of AMD drivers? It’s too early to tell, but as of right now, gamers will undoubtedly face more stability issues across the gaming spectrum compared to more mature drivers from Nvidia. Problems range from stuttering issues, to crashes, and flat out not working.
As an enthusiast, I picked an Arc A770 up purely to tinker with it, and test it out. It’s not something that could be recommended to someone who just wants a GPU to game without issues. There are little sprinkles of potential here, however—and if Intel stays on the path of creating a great gaming GPU, one day it could very well give us the entire package. For now, you’re better off picking up a tried-and-true GeForce RTX 3060.

Our Verdict
The Phonesuit Flex does away with the need to carry a Lightning or Micro USB cable around with your external battery pack. It’s the only wireless portable battery pack available for the iPhone 5/5c/5s, aside from the bulkier iPhone cases from Mophie and PowerSkin. It’s small but not feather-light – around the same weight as the battery cases. I wouldn’t want to carry one around in my trouser or jacket pocket but slip it in your shoulder bag, rucksack, clutch bag or brief case and you can walk away from a power source with the secure knowledge that your phone will keep going until you get to the next power socket.
Many iPhone and Android smartphone users want to boost battery life but adding a special battery case adds bulk and weight to your super-slim Apple or Android smartphone, and non-case battery packs require you to lug a tangly cable round with you too. Also see: 9 best portable USB chargers
We’ve tested and reviewed battery cases from the likes of Mophie and Powerskin.
Each performed well and offer added protection for your valuable smartphone. But many will be put off by the extra bulk each case adds to your iPhone 5 or Android smartphone.
These portable battery chargers work with most smartphones and tablets as they have USB slots into which you connect your device’s charging cable. That means you need to carry round not just the battery pack but the relevant charge cable as well. And anyone who’s reached into a bag for a cable knows they get tangled up almost immediately.
For an iPhone 5, 5c or 5s that might mean buying another £15 Lightning to USB cable, and Android smartphone users will need to pack a Micro USB cable. And if you forget either cable you can also forget getting that much-needed power from the battery pack to the dying phone.
The Phonesuit Flex XT micro battery pack beats the Mophie Powerstations by having a built-in Lightning or Micro USB connector, so no need to carry round a cable too.
iPhone 5/5c/5s users need the Flex XT with the Lightning connector. The Flex XT for Android has integrated Micro USB connector tip can power virtually any Samsung, HTC, LG, Google, etc, smartphone.
It also means you don’t have to take the phone out of a case just to sync it. The Phonesuit Flex takes up the Lightning or Micro USB port only when you need it. The company has recently updated the Flex to the Flex XT, with a longer Lightning or Micro USB connector to make sure it fits even more phone cases. It won’t fit giant cases such as those from Otterbox but it should fit most others.

The Phonesuit Flex XT offers a powerful 2,600mAh charge, which is significantly higher than the Juice Pack and PowerSkin battery cases. Four LED lights show you the amount of charge left in the Flex. You re-charge the Flex via the supplied Micro USB cable.
You simply connect the Flex XT to your phone to start charging. The phone should be fully charged in about two hours, says Phonesuit, but we had a dead iPhone back to a full charge in just over an hour. Once connected to the Flex a phone should be operational again within minutes if not immediately.
Phonesuit claims this will give you an extra 150% charge on an iPhone 5, and at least 100% to most Android phones.
Our tests confirmed that the Flex micro battery pack will fully recharge a drained iPhone, and then give up an extra surge – around 25% – when that charge is used up.
Phonesuit describes the aluminium Flex Charger as “thumb sized”. That’s a pretty fat thumb but it’s certainly equal to the length of an adult man’s thumb, and smaller than most battery packs.
It weighs 79g, which is around the same weight as the smartphone battery cases listed above.
You wouldn’t want it on your person all the time but it’s perfect for slipping into your bag when travelling. You won’t notice it’s there until you get that low battery warning.
The Phonesuit Flex XT Charger is available in three colours: Black Metallic, Red Metallic and Blue metallic.
If you buy direct from Phonesuit it costs $69.95 (about £45) which is reasonable. Shipping to the UK, however, is expensive, adding another $37 to the price to make a total of $107 (about £62). The Mophie Powerstation Mini (2,500mAh) requires a £15 cable but costs £50 including shipping. At £60 the Phonesuit Flex is reasonably priced but with cheaper shipping costs (Sena, for example, ships cases to the UK for $9.99) would be more compelling.
Thankfully you can buy the Flex XT from Amazon for £59.95 for the iPhone 5/5c/5s version, and just £49.95 for the Android version.

As mentioned, initially the card came as the 12GB model of the 4080. But with pushback and confusion and even high price points, it was withdrawn. So then it came out as the RTX 4070 Ti. Still, with the completely different GPU and lower specs, it was on its own.

The card is a greatly capable GPU, with great performance across the board and resolution-wise. Not faltering at the highest settings.
