Suggested January 2024 The Increase In Demand For High

As the world increasingly turns to renewable energy sources to power our homes and businesses, the need for high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) is also increasing.

HPC and AI are used to model and predict complex phenomena, like weather patterns and climate change, as well as to optimize the design of renewable energy systems. The demand for HPC and AI is therefore increasing in many industries that are critical to the transition to a low-carbon economy.

In addition, a great deal of research and development (R&D) has been put into play using these technologies, which are leading to breakthroughs that promise to change the way people live and work.

With supercomputing technology in the limelight and companies focusing on enhancing their data centers’ performance, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype surrounding the new computer systems that boast high computing power. But a lot of people aren’t sure where all of this is going or why it’s such a big deal.

For this, let’s discuss the increasing demand for these technologies and their effect on our lives, especially in renewable and safe energy terms.

The Increase in Need for HPC and AI

The need for supercomputers and their application in the field of renewable energy and power generation is increasing exponentially.

As technology becomes more complex every day, computer systems that can handle the complexities of new developments, as well as the sheer number of choices are required.

That is the point where high-performance computing comes in. HPC applications are the only way we can process big data, analyze the results, and use them to mold the world around us into the one we want.

Research is increasingly being performed on high-performance supercomputers because HPC systems are the only way we can accurately test our technologies and models. This is especially true in the fields of renewable energy and power generation.

Moreover, they help in the development of sustainable data centers and systems since they provide the means to process big data, model and analyze information, and make decisions based on them.

Use of HPC and AI to Model Complex Phenomena

HPC and AI are being used more and more to model complex phenomena, like weather patterns and climate change.

The increase in demand for these services is because they allow for a much more accurate representation of reality, such as the climate. By using HPC and AI, we can create models that are much closer to the real thing, which gives us a better understanding of how our planet works and how we can help protect it.

Role of HPC and AI in Low-Carbon Economy

HPC and AI are playing an increasingly important role in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

A recent report by Barclays found that demand for HPC in the oil and gas industry is set to increase as firms look to reduce their carbon footprints.

AI is also being used to develop new renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power. According to the present world situation, scientists consider renewable energy as a solution.

Moreover, this technology is critical not only for reducing emissions but also for creating jobs in an industry that is expected to grow rapidly over the next decade.

The report notes that given the challenges ahead, the oil and gas industry needs to make a fundamental shift in how it operates.

It must replace conventional (and carbon-intensive) sources with renewable and other cleaner sources while reducing its environmental footprint.

HPC is playing a critical role in this new paradigm, providing the business intelligence to make strategic decisions around extraction, processing, and transportation.

Role of HPC and AI in Business Growth

The energy sector is one of the fastest-growing segments across the globe, and HPC holds the key to transforming it into a more sustainable and competitive industry. The future of the oil and gas sector is closely tied to the HPC & AI challenge.

The energy sector can benefit from HPC to make the energy supply system more efficient and improve the energy supply chain. This includes optimizing production planning and developing 3D models for a better understanding of the reservoir and better control of the drilling operations.

This will also enable the oil and gas industry to improve production forecasting and more accurately estimate probable reserves and help predict the movement of fluids in the reservoir. The storage and transport of energy will also be optimized through the use of simulations, analysis, and optimization methods.

Hence, HPC and AI increase the growth of the business by enabling the energy industry to meet the technological challenges and maintain its energy supply in the coming years.

Conclusion

The rise of HPC and AI is one of the most exciting trends of the decade. We’re seeing a shift from traditional computers used in the past, to HPC and AI.

They allow organizations to handle large amounts of data efficiently, which allows them to perform their tasks much faster.

This is a boon for companies, as they’re able to process data at an increased speed, and therefore, save time and money on IT costs.

However, HPC and AI have an increased cost of power due to the increase in the size of data being processed.

The Rising Demand For No

The future of digitalization is firmly anchored in the strides being made today in no-code technology.

Digital has been at the forefront of every transformation initiative from governance to startup ideas. The need for an app for everything has driven the demand for coders, solution architects, and in general technology skill sets through the roof. As the supply of quality technology skill sets has tightened, no-code platforms have provided a neat balance to the demand-supply imbalance. No-code platforms have increasingly become the go-to option for building applications quickly, at a lower effective cost, and more importantly with virtually no dependence on coding skillsets. The future of digitalization is firmly anchored in the strides being made today in no-code technology.

Why has the demand for no-code platforms accelerated?

No-code platforms provide end-users with the ability to quickly build apps in exactly the way they imagine them, without relying on coders. This significantly reduces any loss in translation from the idea to the outcome. The tightening supply of coding skillsets has further contributed to end-users seeking out no-code platforms to develop their applications. No-code also promises to dramatically reduce the time taken and the cost of ownership and management of applications. In general, the ability to build apps quickly and without any additional skillsets has led to the increasing adoption of no-code platforms and a massive increase in the pace of digitalization.

Do no-code platforms really live up to the hype?

No-code is still at an evolving stage. The technologies in play and the frameworks in place are still evolving. There still doesn’t exist a standard for what qualifies as a truly no-code platform. However, no-code definitely lives up to the hype and keeps improving every day. No-code platforms still have some way to go to start replacing core systems and in general, become the only way applications are built. However, we are very much on the path to a world where coding will be required only to build and enhance the no-code platforms themselves.

What is the future of no-code technology?

No-code technology is expected to become increasingly user-friendly and driven by natural language commands. The future of new code will involve apps being built through conversations between humans and machines. No-code is also expected to become increasingly adaptive and intelligent when coupled with artificial intelligence. Where today artificial intelligence is used to undertake specific tasks, it is expected to become an integral part of no-code platforms to build or enhance applications without specific human intervention. We are likely to see no-code become an autonomous technology.

How should businesses benefit from this wave?

For businesses today, no-code is no longer an option. It is the only way to sustain the insatiable need for digitalization. Businesses have to invest in adopting no-code technology and in training and re-organizing the workforce to deliver applications at a rapid pace. Given that no-code technology is still evolving, businesses will have to adapt quickly to developments and work with multiple platforms until a market standard evolves. Businesses that ignore the no-code wave are likely to spend huge amounts on digitalization compared to their peers and are likely to get left behind. It is also imperative for businesses to take this opportunity to rationalize technology teams, refocus their spending on customer needs, and set more aggressive targets for the pace of digitalization.

How large is the no-code opportunity?

India’s no-code market is estimated at USD 400 million. As per Gartner, the no-code market globally is expected to grow at more than 20%. The no-code opportunity is expected to create an ecosystem far beyond the realm of just the platform. It will accelerate the creation and monetization of applications. It will create a large market for business analysts and application maintenance and monitoring beyond the traditional market. No-code is also expected to accelerate the adoption of cloud technologies and in general cloud consumption. The no-code opportunity is likely to create a new ecosystem of citizen developers, content creators, creators of reusable artefacts, app monetizers, and consumers that will create a digitalization wave not seen before.

Mobile Security Drives Demand For Android In The Enterprise

For the enterprise market, and for financial services in particular, it’s been hard to move on from the previous generation of mobility platforms. Traditionally, banks have relied upon old devices’ proven mobile security features, particularly their ability to protect confidential information through encryption and remote wiping when a phone is lost or stolen. However, a quickly changing mobile market has driven some enterprise users toward alternatives.

Android™ has stepped in to fill the gap. In IDC’s report, Worldwide Business Use Smartphone 2014–2023 Forecast and Analysis, Ramon LLamas, a research manager with IDC’s Mobile Phones team, predicts that Android “will have tremendous traction within the enterprise and mostly through enterprise-liable smartphone shipments.” Improved mobile security and widespread corporate adoption will drive banks away from legacy platforms and toward issuing their employees with Android devices. It will also open the door for banks to implement bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies.

Increasing Android Support for the Enterprise

In early 2023, Google introduced Android for Work™ to help adapt the platform for enterprise use. A large focus of this initiative is around secure app development. In a 2023 interview with the Financial Post, Rajen Sheth, director of product management for Android and Chrome at Work™, posited that Android’s greatness in the enterprise will come from partnerships in custom app and software creation for specific workplaces, such as financial institutions.

Still, one of the lingering worries for Android in the enterprise has been fragmentation of versions as well as perceptions about security. According to mobile expert Benedict Evans , “Android fragmentation is both massively overstated and massively understated, depending on what you want to do.” Evans argues that it’s next to impossible to avoid fragmentation in a landscape where both $600 and $50 devices coexist; differences in capabilities just comes with the territory. However, he notes that Google has been successful in minimizing Android version fragmentation. Furthermore, the latest version of Android v5.1 adds support for enterprise customers’ desired features such as Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), which answers any lingering concerns about platform vulnerabilities.

The Growing Demand for Android

The worldwide success and continued growth of Android across markets, segments and geographies has reached new heights. According to a 2014 report from IDC, corporate-liable smartphone sales were expected to hit 111 million units in 2014, up nearly 14 percent over the previous year. Though they’re not accelerating, sales are forecasted to rise at a rate of nearly 9 percent annually to 150 million units in 2023. In a sense, therefore, the enterprise market is following the global rise in demand for Android. As was widely reported, the number of Android activations had risen dramatically to reach more than 1 billion activated devices in late 2013. Now, the platform owns an estimated 78 percent of the consumer smartphone market, according to a 2023 IDC study, so it’s no surprise that the enterprise market recognizes the need to support it.

While most security-conscious companies will want to support Android by providing corporate-liable devices that ensure greater control over security settings, IDC points out that the BYOD market is larger. In fact, employee-liable devices are forecasted to grow from 221 million units in 2014 to 331 million in 2023, a higher growth rate than corporate-liable devices at 15.3 percent. Morgan Stanley rolled out the first corporate app to run on Android in 2010, oriented toward financial research for banking institutions. Today, there’s a much wider set of company apps for Android.

Mobile Security: The Key to Unlocking Higher Growth

Two factors are key to enabling Android’s growth within the enterprise market: improved platform security and more enterprise security solutions. Android’s changes through successive versions reveal numerous improvements, from the security framework enhancements of version 4.3 to device protection in the latest version, 5.1.

Beyond Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), third-party software companies have helped to improve the security of Android devices for both consumers and the enterprise. One such company, Lookout, started as a successful consumer app and was able to gain traction quickly based on building a more positive and rewarding security experience for consumers, unlike the traditional desktop security players. As a result, Lookout has seen a strong demand from enterprise customers, said Jenny Roy, Head of Consumer Marketing for Lookout.

“People don’t typically use the word ‘love’ and ‘antivirus’ in the same sentence when referring to desktop security. So when it comes to something as personal as someone’s phone, security has to be a better experience, to not only win over the consumer but also the enterprise, as employers look to roll it out to all their employees,” says Roy.

In addition to its consumer-friendly interface, Lookout emphasizes predictive security and offers solutions such as mobile threat protection and support for enterprise customers who use corporate liable and BYOD programs.

Changing of the Guard: Moving From Legacy Devices to Androidsmartphones

As noted earlier, the enterprise market, and financial services in particular, have been slow to shift to the new device generation. However, the market is changing: IDC’s report said Android will grow in the corporate market from 2014 to 2023. Benedict Evans and others have pointed out that Samsung maintains a firm lock on the upper end of the Android market. Therefore, it’s likely that enterprise clients, including banks, may increasingly turn to Samsung Galaxy S® 7 smartphones and Galaxy Tab® tablets, which feature great enterprise features like Samsung KNOX™.

It can be hard to change perceptions, but given the trends outlined here, experts predict that the enterprise market for Android will increase significantly over the next several years.

How To Increase The Maximum Volume In Windows

Sometimes turning the volume up to 100 is all you need. Other times, however, you need that little extra boost. When the Windows volume is all the way up but things are still too quiet, these options could make things a bit louder. The following methods will show how to maximize the device volume in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

1. Increase Volume Using Equalizer APO

Equalizer APO is a free open-source software that gives you extremely fine control over your PC equalizer settings. We could do a whole feature on all the crazy stuff you can do with this software, but for now we’re just focusing on cranking up that maximum volume.

In the “Configurator” window of the installer, select the devices you’d like to use with APO (Headphones, for example).

When the APO installation finishes, you will be asked to reboot Windows.

Following the device restart, go to the “Equalizer APO” install directory, followed by the “config” folder, then open the “config” file in Notepad.

Change the preamp number to a maximum of +20 dB (ideally, +10 dB is more than enough) and delete the rest of the text in the file so that it looks like the following image.

Save the file, reboot your PC, and you’re good to go!

2. Check the Software Volume

Some video player software may come with a volume-boosting option. For example, if you find VLC to be a little on the quiet side, you can increase its volume up to 300 percent within the player itself. Note that the higher you go, the more audio clipping and distortion you may experience. It’s a quick method but not necessarily the cleanest.

3. Adjust the Volume Dipping Option If Voice Calls Cause Trouble

If everything sounds perfectly fine during regular use but takes a sudden dip when you enter a voice call, you have a communications option set to lower volume during calls in Windows 11/10..

4. Check Individual Software Levels

If every app’s sound bar is at a good volume, the levels for that specific app may be low. To double-check this, balance individual software volume levels as shown. The methods to raise the volume for Windows 11 are slightly different from Windows 10.

Windows 11 has its own dedicated option for “Volume mixer,” which can be opened from the Start menu search.

For the input and output devices on Windows 11, check individual volume levels. If the bar is lower than the others, lift it to the same level.

You’ll see all the software you have open with the individual volume scales. Ensure the quiet app hasn’t had its volume dropped for some reason.

In Windows 11 the “App volume and device preferences” window opens. Here you can adjust the volume of individual input and output devices to ensure they are at similar levels.

5. Use Audio Enhancements

If everything is just too quiet in general, you can use audio enhancements in Windows 10 and Windows 11 to give your sound levels that extra boost.

Once the speaker or headphones properties are displayed in Windows 11, go to the “Advanced” tab and check the box for “Enable audio enhancements” if not already checked.

In Windows 10 there is a separate “Enhancements” tab under “Speaker Properties.” Check and apply the “Loudness Equalization” box.

Working with audio enhancements will boost the sound even further, which should hopefully make it loud enough for you to hear! If, however, you’re not getting any sound on your Windows device, you need to disable audio enhancements.

External Sound Boosters in Windows 10/11

It can be annoying when the sound is too quiet but your volume is maxed out. The cause can be many things, from automatic voice call features to individual app volume sliders being low. Sometimes, however, things are just too quiet in general, at which point you can use sound boosters within either Windows 11/10 or the software itself to get those extra few decibels. We have covered two such examples below.

6. Use FxSound Enhancer

Do you want professional quality sound effects on your Windows device, such as bass and surround sound? FxSound is one of the best sound boosters for that razor sharp audio clarity.

Play a sample audio. Make minor band adjustments in the sound enhancing tool to suit your desired levels.

In the Pro version of FxSound Enhancer, you can set various “presets,” including one that gives a “Volume boost.” The sound effects with this app are louder than anything possible with your PC or laptop.

7. Use Your Smartphone Audio with WO Mic

Recent smartphones provide high fidelity audio along with bass and special effects. With the right booster app, you can make use of those speakers on a Windows 11/10 system to maximize its volume.

Download the WO Mic Installer for Windows application and install it on your device.

During installation, you need to set the proper WO Mic Driver as a default based on your PC configuration (x64, ARM64, etc.).

Download the WO Mic app for Android or iPhone.

You need to set up a transport mechanism in the app to communicate with the laptop device. It can be Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, or USB.

Go back to the WO Mic desktop client and set it up with the same transport mechanism as your phone.

For example, if the phone was configured using Wi-Fi, use Wi-Fi to connect it with the desktop client. Also, ensure that the IP address is the same on both your phone and laptop/PC.

Frequently Asked Questions 1. Does Windows 11/10 come with an equalizer?

At the moment, Windows 11/10 does not have its own built-in equalizer. This is why you should use an external equalizer software such as Equalizer APO or FxSound Enhancer.

2. How do I increase System Volume in Windows 11/10?

To increase the system (or device) volume in Windows 11, you need to use the “Enhancements” option from “Control Panel Sounds.” Windows 10 has additional options for “Loudness Equalization.”

3. Can I control the volume on Windows using my keyboard?

The computer keyboard is an easily accessible device to manipulate the volume of Windows 11/10 systems. Use the Fn + F8 keys to increase the volume and Fn + F7 to lower it. To mute/unmute the keyboard, use Fn + F6. As you press the keys, you will see the volume change on your screen.

Demand For Children’s Medications During ‘Tripledemic’ Forces Pharmacies To Limit Purchases

Due to increased demand, pharmacy chains CVS and Walgreens have limited purchases of children’s pain relievers and fever reducers. The demand comes amid a “tripledemic” surge of respiratory infections including flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and COVID-19. Particularly vulnerable to RSV, the virus has hospitalized more than four out of every 1,000 children under the age of five this season, according to the CDC.

In November, the spike in illnesses led to a 65 percent increase in the sale of children’s fever reducers and medications compared to November 2023, according to the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA). The association represents some of the companies that make the medications including Tylenol manufacturer Johnson & Johnson, Haleon the maker of Advil, and Perrigo, which manufacturers generic store brands.

[Related: Is it flu or RSV? It can be tough to tell.]

In a statement, CHPA said that it doesn’t yet have a timeline for when the supply may catch up with demand and stressed that the manufacturers were working to replenish the medications as quickly as possible.

At Walgreens, customers are limited to online purchases of six over-the-counter fever reducers per purchase, but the company does not currently have an in-store limit.

“Due to increased demand and various supplier challenges, over-the-counter pediatric fever reducing products are seeing constraint across the country,” said Walgreens, said in a statement. Walgreens added that the limits are, “in an effort to help support availability and avoid excess purchases.”

CVS also cited the increased demand for these items for their two-product per person limit on both online and in-store purchases. A spokesperson for CVS told The New York Times, “We can confirm that to ensure equitable access for all our customers, there is currently a two (2) product limit on all children’s pain relief products. We’re committed to meeting our customers’ needs and are working with our suppliers to ensure continued access to these items.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is urging parents “not to panic” if they are unable to find fever-reducing medicine. “These medicines are not curative. They don’t alter the duration of the illness or anything like that. They are essentially purely for comfort,” Sean O’Leary, chair of the Committee on Infectious Diseases for the AAP, told NPR earlier in December. “Fevers from common respiratory viruses in and of themselves are not harmful.”

[Related: No, you can’t get the flu from a flu shot.]

While weekly RSV hospitalizations have recently decreased, the number hospitalizations is still higher than normal for this time of year.

Daniel Ganjian, a pediatrician at Providence Saint John’s Health Center, told PopSci in October that RSV exposure early in life helps train the immune system and most RSV infections occur in babies whose immune systems are still developing. Beginning in early 2023, children did not attend as many in-person activities, which lowered their chance of infection and the creation of an appropriate immune defense. “They have zero antibodies because these kids, who were 1 and 2 during the pandemic, were not exposed to RSV,” Ganjian said. “Now they’re getting it for the first time and they’re getting severe reactions,” he said. Infected infants may cough and wheeze for about two weeks, but most babies make a full recovery. A 2023 study in The Lancet estimates that RSV caused 7 percent of infant deaths, with most occurring in children under 3.

Wearing a face mask, staying up to date with flu and COVID-19 vaccination, good hand-washing, and other general health practices can help prevent infection from respiratory infections.
