The app in question is Expedia Hotels, and from what we’ve seen, it’s one of the most complete apps for searching for accommodations. The detailed information that is contained within the app is incredible, and on top of this, its functioning is beyond reproach.

Expedia offers users the possibility to search and book hotel rooms in any part of the world, and thanks to its detailed information, you can choose the best suited room for you. Also, the app’s simple user interface and very fast responses ensures a flawless and productive search. Also, one thing worth mentioning here is the fact that the app performs very well even on a slower Internet connection.

When opening the app, you will see a simple menu that asks you where you want to go, for what period you wish to stay there and how many people are in your group. After filling out this information, the app will search for the best hotels in the area you have chosen, and it will return you a list of hotels, complete with photos and rates. Now, you can filter the results based on price and rating of the hotel.

The Surface RT from Microsoft is out in the wild and begs for a question – will the Surface Pro manage to gather more sales? As much as some of us don’t love Microsoft, it’s time to admit that they are very, very late with their tablet and that the single enemy the iPad currently faces is not the Windows 8 tablet spree but the Android army.

A very big problem that users of Windows 8 currently face is the confusion created between the full, Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro operating system and the Windows RT, the dumbed-down version of Windows 8. So, people who pay around $500-$600 for a tablet expect it to come with a full Windows 8 experience, so when that doesn’t happen, naturally, consumers get frustrated. And that’s Microsoft’s biggest issue right – the dissatisfaction of its users. And if Microsoft doesn’t fix this, Nokia will.

Wait, who, NOKIA? Yes, the Finnish company that has been for so many years synonym with cellphones. But right now, there is a lot of companies out there that have embraced Android, Google’s secret gun and have developed awesome smartphones and tablets. Thus, Nokia, has seriously lost from its previous fame. So, what are Nokia’s options right now? To adapt to the new situation or to die.

Nokia’s Windows 8 tablet – soon on the market?

Obviously, the direct rival for an eventual Nokia tablet with Windows 8 or RT inside would be Microsoft’s own Surface tablet. And if Nokia manages to choose the right pricing strategy, then I think they can sell even more than Microsoft did. Personally, I think that right now Nokia has much more lovers, in terms of hardware, than Microsoft does. Many people would be really curious to see how a Windows 8 tablet from Nokia could look and feel. Nokia needs to be able to catch that curiosity and convert it into money by bringing on the market an astonishing slate.

The Surface tablet didn’t have anything amazing in it, overall, it’s a good product, but it lacks the WOW feeling that you get with the iPad. Nokia can do that with their own tablet. Where did all this buzz came from? Directly from Nokia’s CEO lips:

“We haven’t announced tablets at this point, but it is something we are clearly looking at very closely. We are studying very closely the market right now as Microsoft has introduced the Surface tablet, so we are trying to learn from that and understand what the right way to participate would be and at what point in time.”

What’s very interesting is that Nokia didn’t ditch the possibility of choosing the Android side, as weird as that might not sound for the moment

“We would consider any option [Android or Windows] … It is important to note that the opportunity for companionship is something that any user is looking for. So, when you think about the Lumia 920, running on Windows phone, having a Windows tablet or PC or Xbox is something that will give us the opportunity to have a pretty integrated experience. Our first focus on what we look at is clearly in the Microsoft side”

Albeit Windows is prioritary, we can’t ignore Nokia’s interest for Android. I could even dare to think that they can work on their own operating system. However, they could opt to focus for the development of hardware and just pick the software solution either from Microsoft or Google. Either way, I’m sure Nokia will do a great job and most likely, the tablet could be released under the same recent branding of its smartphones – the Lumia name.

The tablet is expected to hit the market by the end of this year but they need to pick up the timing very well, because looking at past year, Apple has been very agressive with its iPad portfolio. Looking at the current Lumia smartphones, one could say they are bulky. But if Nokia keeps the same design line with their tablet, I think many will be impressed.

In 2023, Evernote received a new major update. The app now includes new features as:

Pulling up your notes by selecting Notebooks so you can group all of them into a single stack

The trash section now allows you to access your deleted items easier

A new search algorithm was added so you can find notes easier

You know who the biggest rival and opponent of Evernote is, right? Yes, Microsoft’s very own OneNote software, is part of the Microsoft Office suite.

So, can Evernote be a worthy rival to OneNote and other note-taking apps or will they have to convince us with the next version?

Users should be aware that the Evernote application for Windows 10 is mostly optimized for a touch experience, so if you still want to use your mouse and keyboard with it, maybe you should stick with the desktop version.

Evernote is deeply integrated with Modern UI (the new name for the old Metro), and it will seem very natural at use, after you get used to it.

It might take you a while to get used to it, especially if you’re new to the Windows 10 game, but you’ll find it quite light and responsive in time.

The big tiles will seem useful for some, while others would have preferred more, smaller tiles. One of the basic features is the Swipe gestures:

Semantic zoom – somehow, it’s similar to the function with the same name in Wikipedia, allowing you to tap and jump to any grouping inside the app that you want.

App bar and Navigation bar – bring down the Application and Navigation bars that allow you to create notes, sync, and navigate to other application sections.

Charm bar – allows you pull the Charm bar where you can change the settings and perform searches.

Snap view – want to minimeze Evernote or share the screen with another application? Simply swipe from the left.

Swipe on objects – allows you to select multiples notes at the same time.

How to use the Evernote app on a PC

When you open your Evernote application for Windows or RT, you will see a horizontally scrollable list. There you will find the Nav, App, and Charms bar.

Your Evernote notes can capture text, images, video, web clips, web pages, and much more. One drawback with the current version of Evernote for Windows 10 is that you can only edit plain text, meaning rich formatting isn’t yet supported.

If you’re unfamiliar with Evernote, you should know that once you create, save, or update a note, it gets synced with all your other devices where your Evernote account is installed.

What I didn’t like about Evernote for Windows 10 was that many times, I had the feeling that a lot of space wasn’t properly used and that there was a lot of free space that could’ve been better optimized.

Maybe this is why Evernote has only a 3 out of 5 rating.

Evernote for Windows 10 is built with the core meaning of tiles and leverages the power of Windows 10. Using Evernote, you can Auto-synchronize notes amongst your devices, use it for research (using the Wikipedia application for it, as well), and even use it as a virtual whiteboard.

How To Clear App Notifications When Logging Off Windows 8

One of the common issues with Windows 8 is that app notifications keep appearing after you have seen them. You may restart your PC and see the same notifications you did when you logged off. While Windows 8 should be clearing these notifications once you acknowledge them, it doesn’t always happen. Using the Local Group Policy Editor, you can clear app notifications when you log off your computer.

How to clear app notifications in Windows 8

You’re looking for “Clear history of tile notifications on exit.”

You’ll be told what enabling this setting does in Windows 8 so that you know what you’re doing if you’re still uncomfortable with making these types of changes to your computer.

In order to enable this function on all accounts on your PC, open the Run window once more with the “Windows Key + R” shortcut and type “gpupdate /force”

A Command Prompt window will pop up letting you know Windows 8 is forcing the update to your entire PC. It may take a few moments for this to finish depending on the number of accounts on the PC.

When finished, the Command Prompt will let you know. Whenever an account logs off Windows 8, its app notifications will now be cleared.

This ensures that between sessions, you won’t have to worry about the same notifications appearing, but it doesn’t end the bigger issue with them in Windows 8. Until Microsoft addresses the underlying issue, users will have to deal with the same notifications appearing in apps during a session.

Troubleshooting app notification issues

The above steps will just clear your app notifications when you log off Windows 8. It won’t solve issues that appear while you’re logged in. Apps that utilize background services can cause notification issues. This can cause an infinite loop of notifications in Windows 8.

Make sure you check your notification settings in each app. Many allow you to turn the background notification on or off. If you’re experiencing an issue with notifications, turning off background services can be a quick fix to this issue.
